A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
I was among the first to embrace Islam in Makkah.
I migrated to Abyssinia.
Then I returned to Makkah.
I was confined there.
I was unable to migrate to Madinah.
Until the Prophet, peace be upon him, migrated there.
I remained in Makkah.
Until the Prophet, peace be upon him, sent out.
A military detachment of Muslims.
Led by 'Ubaydah Ibn al-Harith, may Allah be pleased with him.
They encountered a group from Quraysh.
Led by 'Ikrimah Ibn Abi Jahl.
I had set out with the polytheists.
When the two parties met and no fighting occurred.
I separated from the polytheists.
And joined the Muslim detachment.
I witnessed all the battles with the Prophet, peace be upon him.
I was the first to gallop my horse in the cause of Allah.
I was quick to respond to the call for jihad.
I was a brave man, equal to a thousand knights.
During the Battle of Badr.
I went out with my horse alongside the Muslims.
When the caravan escaped us.
And the battle became imminent.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, consulted his Companions.
He said, "Advise me, O people."
Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, stood up.
He spoke and spoke well.
Then 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, stood up.
And said the same.
Then I stood up and said.
"O Messenger of Allah.
Lead us wherever Allah commands.
We are with you.
By Allah, we will not say to you.
What the Children of Israel said to Musa.
“They said: O Moses! We will never enter (the land) while they are in it. So go thou and thy Lord and fight! We will sit here.” (5:24)
'Go, you and your Lord, and fight; we are sitting right here.'
But rather.
“They said: O Moses! We will never enter (the land) while they are in it. So go thou and thy Lord and fight! We will sit here.” (5:24)
We are fighting alongside you both.
By the One who sent you with the truth.
If you were to lead us to Bark al-Ghimad.
We would fight alongside you to reach it.
Until you attain it."
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to me.
[peace be upon him].
Good words, and he prayed for me.
Long after the death of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
A while later.
A man passed by me.
And said.
"Blessed are these two eyes.
That saw the Messenger of Allah.
peace be upon him.
By Allah, we wish.
That we had seen what you saw."
I listened to what he said.
And I began to wonder.
Then I turned to him.
And said.
"What makes one of you.
Wish for a scene.
That Allah kept hidden from him?
He does not know if he had witnessed it.
How he would have fared in it.
By Allah, there were present.
With the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
People whom Allah will cast.
On their faces into Hell.
They did not respond to him nor did they believe him.
Should you not praise Allah.
That He brought you out of your mothers' wombs.
Knowing nothing but your Lord.
Believing in what your Prophet brought.
And you have been spared the trials that others faced."
I had a large belly.
And I had a Roman slave.
He said to me.
"Let me cut open your belly.
To remove some of the fat so that you may become slender.
And your body may become light.
For I am an expert in that."
So he cut open my belly.
And removed some fat and tissue.
Then he stitched it up.
But the wound became inflamed.
And the slave fled.
And I died because of that.
