00:00:01.419 --> 00:00:07.419
The story of the Hajj of our Mother ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her.

00:00:07.419 --> 00:00:17.710
The weeping of our Mother ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, before the Day of ‘Arafah.

00:00:17.710 --> 00:00:21.710
When the Day of Tarwiyah arrived, the people entered into the state of ihram for Hajj.

00:00:21.710 --> 00:00:24.710
They set out toward Mina.

00:00:24.710 --> 00:00:29.710
Our Mother ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, waited throughout the duration of her menses.

00:00:29.710 --> 00:00:32.710
Hoping that she might become pure before the Day of ‘Arafah.

00:00:32.710 --> 00:00:37.710
However, she did not become pure, so she wept a second time.

00:00:37.710 --> 00:00:42.710
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, entered upon her while she was weeping.

00:00:42.710 --> 00:00:45.710
She complained to him about her situation.

00:00:45.710 --> 00:00:48.710
Our Mother ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, says:

00:00:48.710 --> 00:00:54.710
"The Day of ‘Arafah overtook me while I was menstruating, and I had not yet completed my ‘Umrah."

00:00:54.710 --> 00:00:59.710
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, entered upon me while I was weeping.

00:00:59.710 --> 00:01:06.709
He asked, "What makes you weep?" I replied, "I wish I had not set out this year."

00:01:06.709 --> 00:01:11.709
I complained of that to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

00:01:11.709 --> 00:01:18.709
He said, "Leave your ‘Umrah, undo your hair, comb it, and enter into the state of ihram for Hajj."

00:01:18.709 --> 00:01:22.709
"And do what the Muslims do in their Hajj."

00:01:22.709 --> 00:01:27.900
She did so. Jabir Ibn ‘Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them both, said:

00:01:27.900 --> 00:01:30.900
"Then we entered into the state of ihram on the Day of Tarwiyah."

00:01:30.900 --> 00:01:36.900
Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, entered upon ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her.

00:01:36.900 --> 00:01:38.900
He found her weeping.

00:01:38.900 --> 00:01:41.900
He asked, "What is the matter with you?"

00:01:41.900 --> 00:01:46.030
She said, "The matter is that I have begun menstruating."

00:01:46.030 --> 00:01:51.030
"The people have completed their rites, but I have not, and I have not circumambulated the House."

00:01:51.030 --> 00:01:54.030
"And the people are going to Hajj now."

00:01:55.030 --> 00:02:00.030
He said, "This is a matter that Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam."

00:02:00.030 --> 00:02:04.030
"So perform ghusl, then enter into the state of ihram for Hajj."

00:02:04.030 --> 00:02:07.030
She did so and stood at the stations [of Hajj].

00:02:07.030 --> 00:02:13.030
Once she became pure, she performed Tawaf around the Ka‘bah and Sa‘i between Safa and Marwah.

00:02:13.030 --> 00:02:17.699
This second weeping was different from the first.

00:02:17.699 --> 00:02:23.699
The first weeping was due to the onset of her menses before performing the ‘Umrah.

00:02:23.699 --> 00:02:29.699
The second weeping was due to the commencement of Hajj while she was not yet pure.

00:02:29.699 --> 00:02:33.699
In this, there is a reminder for husbands and the guardians of women.

00:02:33.699 --> 00:02:38.699
That they should be mindful of a woman’s psychological state if she menstruates during Hajj or otherwise.

00:02:38.699 --> 00:02:44.699
And that they should strive to resolve the difficulty she faces due to her menses.

00:02:44.699 --> 00:02:49.759
How should one who has not become pure before ‘Arafah act?

00:02:49.759 --> 00:02:56.460
Our Mother ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, continued waiting until the night of ‘Arafah.

00:02:56.460 --> 00:03:02.500
She did not rush to abandon her ‘Umrah at the beginning of the day of Tarwiyah.

00:03:02.500 --> 00:03:05.500
Rather, she waited until time grew short.

00:03:05.500 --> 00:03:09.530
Our Mother ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said:

00:03:09.530 --> 00:03:12.530
"When the night of ‘Arafah arrived,"

00:03:12.530 --> 00:03:14.530
"I said, 'O Messenger of Allah,'"

00:03:14.530 --> 00:03:17.530
"'I had entered into the state of ihram for ‘Umrah,'"

00:03:17.530 --> 00:03:19.530
"'So what should I do regarding my Hajj?'"

00:03:19.530 --> 00:03:20.560
He said:

00:03:20.560 --> 00:03:23.560
"Undo your hair and comb it."

00:03:23.560 --> 00:03:27.750
"Refrain from the ‘Umrah and enter into the state of ihram for Hajj."

00:03:27.750 --> 00:03:32.750
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, commanded her to perform ghusl for ihram.

00:03:32.750 --> 00:03:35.750
To enter into the state of ihram for Hajj and to postpone the ‘Umrah.

00:03:35.750 --> 00:03:42.330
Meaning, to leave the actions of ‘Umrah—such as Tawaf and Sa‘i—and enter into the state of ihram for Hajj.

00:03:42.330 --> 00:03:46.330
What is beautiful in the biography of our Mother ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her,

00:03:46.330 --> 00:03:52.330
Is that as soon as she heard the command from our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

00:03:52.330 --> 00:03:56.330
She would hasten to implement it without argument.

00:03:56.330 --> 00:04:00.360
Our Mother ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, says:

00:04:00.360 --> 00:04:04.360
"I remained menstruating until it was the Day of ‘Arafah."

00:04:04.360 --> 00:04:07.360
"And I had only entered into the state of ihram for ‘Umrah."

00:04:07.360 --> 00:04:12.360
"The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, commanded me to undo my hair and comb it."

00:04:12.360 --> 00:04:15.360
"And to enter into the state of ihram for Hajj and leave the ‘Umrah."

00:04:15.360 --> 00:04:17.360
"So I did that."

00:04:17.360 --> 00:04:21.360
This is the way of all the Mothers of the Believers.

00:04:21.360 --> 00:04:24.360
And the way of the Companions and the female Companions.

00:04:24.360 --> 00:04:30.360
That they respond to the command of Allah and the command of His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

00:04:30.360 --> 00:04:35.360
They do not evade the performance of the rites, nor do they seek out dispensations.

00:04:35.360 --> 00:04:39.360
Rather, their eyes were fixed upon the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

00:04:39.360 --> 00:04:41.360
They would watch what he did.

00:04:41.360 --> 00:04:43.360
And they would do the same.

00:04:43.360 --> 00:04:46.490
In this, there is a reminder for you, my sister pilgrim:

00:04:46.490 --> 00:04:49.490
That your motto during Hajj should be:

00:04:49.490 --> 00:04:52.490
The statement of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him:

00:04:52.490 --> 00:04:55.490
"Take your rites from me."

00:04:55.490 --> 00:04:59.490
Perhaps you will not perform Hajj after this Hajj of yours.

00:04:59.490 --> 00:05:03.490
So let this Hajj be your only Hajj.

00:05:03.490 --> 00:05:06.490
And let it be the accepted Hajj (Hajj Mabrur).

00:05:06.490 --> 00:05:11.089
Do as the pilgrim does.

00:05:11.089 --> 00:05:15.730
Except that you do not circumambulate the House until you are pure.

00:05:15.730 --> 00:05:19.730
This is the guidance of our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

00:05:19.730 --> 00:05:22.730
To our Mother ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her,

00:05:22.730 --> 00:05:24.730
When she menstruated during Hajj.

00:05:24.730 --> 00:05:29.759
So the menstruating woman was forbidden from circumambulating the House while in her state of ihram.

00:05:29.759 --> 00:05:32.759
But she was not forbidden from witnessing the rest of the sacred sites.

00:05:32.759 --> 00:05:36.759
Rather, she was commanded to do as the pilgrim does.

00:05:36.759 --> 00:05:38.759
And the acts of Hajj,

00:05:38.759 --> 00:05:42.759
Are comprised of dhikr, talbiyah, and supplication.

00:05:42.759 --> 00:05:46.759
And the menstruating woman was not forbidden from any of that.

00:05:46.759 --> 00:05:50.339
And dhikr includes the recitation of the Qur'an.

00:05:50.339 --> 00:05:53.339
Which is among the greatest of the pilgrim's deeds.

00:05:53.339 --> 00:05:58.339
So the woman in ihram who is menstruating is not forbidden from reciting the Qur'an.

00:05:58.339 --> 00:06:01.339
Nor from the talbiyah, nor from the tahlil.

00:06:01.339 --> 00:06:04.339
Nor from supplication, nor from anything else.

00:06:04.339 --> 00:06:06.339
Except for circumambulating the House.

00:06:07.339 --> 00:06:12.339
So do not deprive yourself, my sister pilgrim, of reciting the Qur'an,

00:06:12.339 --> 00:06:14.339
On the pretext that you are menstruating.

00:06:14.339 --> 00:06:18.339
Not in Hajj, nor in Ramadan, nor at any other time.

00:06:18.339 --> 00:06:21.339
Rather, increase your recitation of the Qur'an and your dhikr.

00:06:21.339 --> 00:06:25.339
Seize the virtuous times and days.

00:06:25.339 --> 00:06:27.339
And comply with the command of your Lord,

00:06:27.339 --> 00:06:31.339
By abstaining from prayer, fasting, and circumambulating the House while menstruating.

00:06:31.339 --> 00:06:37.129
A wise action from our Mother Maymunah, may Allah be pleased with her,

00:06:38.129 --> 00:06:40.829
On the Day of ‘Arafah.

00:06:40.829 --> 00:06:43.829
After the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, had prayed,

00:06:43.829 --> 00:06:45.829
Dhuhr and ‘Asr.

00:06:45.829 --> 00:06:47.829
He headed toward the rocks,

00:06:47.829 --> 00:06:50.829
And placed them between himself and the Qiblah.

00:06:50.829 --> 00:06:53.829
He stood upon his camel, supplicating for a long time.

00:06:53.829 --> 00:06:56.829
This long standing,

00:06:56.829 --> 00:06:58.829
Made the people wonder:

00:06:58.829 --> 00:07:01.829
Was the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

00:07:01.829 --> 00:07:03.829
Fasting or not?

00:07:03.829 --> 00:07:07.019
So our Mother Maymunah, may Allah be pleased with her, did nothing,

00:07:07.019 --> 00:07:10.019
But send him a vessel of milk.

00:07:10.019 --> 00:07:13.019
While he was standing at the station.

00:07:13.019 --> 00:07:16.019
He drank from it while the people were watching.

00:07:16.019 --> 00:07:18.120
By "the vessel" (al-hilab), she meant,

00:07:18.120 --> 00:07:20.120
The milk that had been milked,

00:07:20.120 --> 00:07:23.120
Or the container in which the milk is placed.

00:07:23.120 --> 00:07:25.120
This action,

00:07:25.120 --> 00:07:29.120
Occurred from her and from her sister, Umm al-Fadl bint al-Harith.

00:07:29.120 --> 00:07:31.120
As she herself narrated,

00:07:31.120 --> 00:07:34.120
That people differed in her presence on the Day of ‘Arafah,

00:07:34.120 --> 00:07:36.120
Regarding the fasting of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

00:07:36.120 --> 00:07:38.120
Some of them said,

00:07:38.120 --> 00:07:39.120
"He is fasting."

00:07:39.120 --> 00:07:41.120
And some of them said,

00:07:41.120 --> 00:07:43.120
"He is not fasting."

00:07:43.120 --> 00:07:46.120
So she sent him a cup of milk,

00:07:46.120 --> 00:07:48.120
While he was standing on his camel.

00:07:48.120 --> 00:07:49.120
He drank.

00:07:49.120 --> 00:07:52.120
And perhaps it was a single incident,

00:07:52.120 --> 00:07:55.220
That occurred in the presence of both of them.

00:07:55.220 --> 00:07:57.220
In this action,

00:07:57.220 --> 00:07:59.860
Is evidence of their sagacity,

00:07:59.860 --> 00:08:01.860
In discovering the legal ruling,

00:08:01.860 --> 00:08:03.860
Through this gentle means,

00:08:03.860 --> 00:08:05.860
Which was appropriate for the situation.

00:08:05.860 --> 00:08:08.860
Because that was on a hot day,

00:08:08.860 --> 00:08:10.860
After midday.

00:08:10.860 --> 00:08:14.980
The reason for the people’s disagreement regarding the fasting of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

00:08:14.980 --> 00:08:17.980
Or his breaking of the fast on the Day of ‘Arafah,

00:08:17.980 --> 00:08:19.980
Was the knowledge they already possessed,

00:08:19.980 --> 00:08:22.980
Which they had learned from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

00:08:22.980 --> 00:08:25.980
Regarding the virtue of fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah,

00:08:25.980 --> 00:08:28.980
And that it expiates for two years.

00:08:28.980 --> 00:08:29.980
So they doubted,

00:08:29.980 --> 00:08:31.980
Does this apply to the pilgrim,

00:08:31.980 --> 00:08:33.980
As well, or not?

00:08:33.980 --> 00:08:35.980
The cause of this doubt,

00:08:35.980 --> 00:08:39.980
Was that they did not see the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

00:08:39.980 --> 00:08:42.980
Eating or drinking from after the Dhuhr prayer,

00:08:42.980 --> 00:08:45.980
Until the middle of the ‘Asr prayer.

00:08:45.980 --> 00:08:48.980
So our Mother Maymunah settled the doubt,

00:08:48.980 --> 00:08:50.980
And arrived at the ruling,

00:08:50.980 --> 00:08:52.980
In a gentle way.

00:08:52.980 --> 00:08:55.980
She sent him the milk in the cup.

00:08:55.980 --> 00:08:57.980
When he drank it,

00:08:57.980 --> 00:08:59.980
The people knew that,

00:08:59.980 --> 00:09:02.980
He was not fasting.

00:09:02.980 --> 00:09:05.210
And so, my sister pilgrim,

00:09:05.210 --> 00:09:08.210
You can elicit the legal ruling,

00:09:08.210 --> 00:09:11.210
And end the debate circulating in Hajj,

00:09:11.210 --> 00:09:14.210
Or elsewhere, in a beautiful way.

00:09:14.210 --> 00:09:17.210
You convey the legal ruling to those around you,

00:09:17.210 --> 00:09:20.210
And instill tranquility in their hearts,

00:09:20.210 --> 00:09:22.210
Without provoking their resentment.

00:09:22.210 --> 00:09:25.240
A sincere woman will never be at a loss,

00:09:25.240 --> 00:09:28.240
For a way to convey the truth to people.

00:09:28.240 --> 00:09:31.240
It might be a question directed to a scholar,

00:09:31.240 --> 00:09:33.240
Or a book that is distributed,

00:09:33.240 --> 00:09:36.240
Or other such means.
