From the aesthetic beauties of the Prophetic biography (Seerah).
Suppressing one's anger.
You may find yourself in a situation,
or stepping forward to fulfill a commitment,
or someone may disrupt your mission,
attempting to provoke you.
Yet, do not be drawn into their behavior.
Instead, be patient and suppress your anger,
to preserve the call to Islam and protect kinship ties.
This is something that occurred to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
during the time he began openly calling to Islam in Makkah.
Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said:
When it was revealed:
"And warn your closest kindred,"
The Prophet, peace be upon him, ascended Mount Safa,
and began to call out:
"O Banu Fihr!"
"O Banu 'Adi!"
addressing the various clans of Quraysh,
until they had all gathered.
If a man could not come himself,
he would send a messenger to see what the matter was.
Abu Lahab and the rest of Quraysh came,
and the Prophet said:
"If I were to tell you that there is a cavalry in the valley intending to attack you,
would you believe me?"
They replied, "Yes,
we have never known you to be anything but truthful."
He said:
"Then I am a warner to you before a severe punishment."
Abu Lahab then said:
"May you perish for the rest of the day!
Is this why you have gathered us?"
Then it was revealed:
“The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish.” (111:1)
“His wealth and gains will not exempt him.” (111:2)
It was not wise for him to argue with his uncle in that crowded assembly,
as it would only intensify the animosity,
especially since he was an open enemy to his message.
Therefore, he suppressed his anger,
and chose silence.
Allah defended him,
and decreed destruction and ruin for his uncle.
Here we learn patience in the call to Islam, suppressing anger,
enduring harm, and turning away from the ignorant.
We also learn to prioritize the interests of the call to Islam over personal desires and the urge for self-retaliation.
And Allah is the Grantor of success.
