Riyad al-Salihin: The Gardens of the Righteous from the Words of the Master of Messengers, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. The chapter on guiding others to goodness and calling them toward either guidance or misguidance. The Almighty says, "And invite to your Lord." And the Almighty says: "Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching." Allah the Almighty says: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety." And Allah the Exalted says: "And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good." On the authority of Abu Mas'ud 'Uqbah ibn 'Amr al-Ansari al-Badri, may Allah be pleased with him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: Whoever guides another to a good deed will have a reward similar to the one who performs it. It was recorded by Muslim. Among the benefits of this hadith It is incumbent upon the Muslim to perform righteous deeds and do good. If he is unable to do so, then he is the cause of that. For the one who is the cause of a righteous deed shall have a share of the reward. Just as the one who performs the action attains the reward and recompense. without diminishing the reward of the doer in the slightest. On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: Whoever calls to guidance He would have a reward equal to the rewards of those who followed him. That does not diminish their rewards in the slightest. And whoever calls others toward misguidance He would bear a burden of sin equal to the sins of those who followed him. That does not diminish their sins in the slightest. It was recorded by Muslim. Among the benefits of the hadith The one who causes an action and the one who directly performs it. They are equal in outcome, whether in terms of punishment or reward. It is incumbent upon the Muslim to reflect deeply on the consequences of matters and the outcomes of his actions. He strives for goodness so that he may serve as a virtuous example. A Muslim must be wary of false calls. And he distances himself from bad companions. For he is accountable for what he does. The one who facilitates goodness receives a multiplied reward. And the one who is the cause of evil shall have his punishment doubled. On the authority of Abu al-'Abbas Sahl Ibn Sa'd al-Sa'idi, may Allah be pleased with him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, He said on the day of Khaybar We shall surely hand over the banner tomorrow. A man through whose hands Allah grants victory. He loves Allah and His Messenger. And he is loved by Allah and His Messenger, peace be upon him. The people spent the night in a state of restless agitation. Which of them shall be given it? When the people reached the morning, They went early in the morning to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. All of them hope to be granted it. He then asked, "Where is ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib?" It was then said, "O Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him." He is complaining about my eye. He said, "Then send for him." So he was brought before him. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, spat. He looked into his eyes and prayed for him. He recovered as if he had never been in any pain at all. He then handed him the banner. Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: O Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. I shall fight them until they become like us. He then said Proceed at your own pace. until it descends upon their territory. Then invite them to Islam. And he informed them of what is incumbent upon them regarding the right of Allah, the Exalted, concerning it. By Allah, for Allah to guide a single man through you is better for you than possessing the finest of camels. It is better for you than the finest red camels. Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. His statement, "they are confused." Meaning they delve into and discuss [the matter]. They set out early, meaning they traveled at the beginning of the day. He complains. Meaning that he feels pain. Proceed at your own pace. Proceed with deliberation and do not be hasty. in their courtyard That is, their perspective. The right of Allah, Exalted is He. Meaning that which He has commanded and that which He has forbidden. May Allah guide others through you. Meaning, He saves you through it from disbelief or misguidance. The finest of camels. The most common form of zakat is that which is levied upon camels. And the red camels. They were the most precious assets of the Arabs. For this reason, the phrase has become a proverbial expression for everything of great value. And there is nothing greater than it. Among the benefits of the hadith Allah, glory be to Him, honored His Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. He then revealed to him those who would achieve victory through him. The excellence of ‘Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, and his status. And the Prophet’s—peace and blessings of Allah be upon him—deep trust in him. The miracle of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. For healing was achieved at his hands by the permission of Allah, the Exalted. The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, were deeply committed to attaining the love of Allah and His Messenger. And their efforts in that regard. And their eagerness to implement it, and their competition with one another in doing good. The sublimity of Islam in its call. And his etiquette during his struggle in the path of Allah. His ultimate goal was to rescue the servants of Allah from misguidance and perdition. The virtue of calling others to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic. And the encouragement to guide others toward goodness and truth. Because of the immense reward and abundant recompense that this yields. On the authority of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him. That the trials of those who embraced Islam, he said: O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I intend to go out for military expedition. And I do not have the means to prepare myself for the journey. He said He said Go to so-and-so. For he had already prepared himself for the journey, but then he fell ill. He came to him and said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, sends you his greetings and says: Give me what you have prepared. He then said O so-and-so. I shall give him that which I have prepared for it. And do not withhold any of it. By Allah, you shall not withhold any part of it. May Allah bless it for us. It was recorded by Muslim. The youth Any young man who is of a tender age. He embraced Islam. It is one of the tribes of the Arabs. That with which I prepare myself. Meaning, that which I require for my journey and my struggle. He sends his greetings of peace to you. Meaning, he recites to you and initiates the conversation with you. You should restrain yourself. Meaning: you should leave it with you. Among the benefits of the hadith Whoever desires to participate in a military expedition but lacks the means to prepare for it. The Imam described his state. He should not excuse himself until the Imam excuses him. Jihad requires both preparation and readiness. It is permissible to take weapons from one who has prepared for jihad. However, he was unable to leave. The Imam excused him for that. The command of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is to be obeyed. It is not permissible to reject it. And likewise were the Imams who came after him. Guiding others toward goodness, striving to attain it, and assisting in its realization. Whoever is stingy with their wealth in the way of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, and in the various avenues of charity. The blessing has departed from his wealth. And he cast himself into destruction. The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, were deeply committed to carrying out the command of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. And their swift response to him, for in it lies life, light, and guidance. The Chapter on Mutual Cooperation in Righteousness and Piety Allah the Exalted says “O ye who believe! Profane not Allah's monuments nor the Sacred Month nor the offerings nor the garlands, nor those repairing to the Sacred House, seeking the grace and pleasure of their Lord. But when ye have left the sacred territory, then go hunting (if ye will). And let not your hatred of a folk who (once) stopped your going to the inviolable place of worship seduce you to transgress; but help ye one another unto righteousness and pious duty. Help not one another unto sin and transgression, but keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is severe in punishment.” (5:2) And the Almighty has said By the passage of time. “Lo! man is a state of loss,” (103:2) “Save those who believe and do good works, and exhort one another to truth and exhort one another to endurance.” (103:3) Imam al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, stated something to the effect that People, or at least the majority of them, are heedless of reflecting upon this surah. On the authority of Abu 'Abd al-Rahman Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: Whoever equips a warrior in the path of Allah has effectively participated in the battle himself. And whoever provides for the family of a warrior in his absence with goodness has indeed participated in the battle. Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. He acts as a deputy for the warrior, meaning he provides for his family and covers all their needs during his absence. Among the benefits of the hadith To assist a Muslim in the struggle for the sake of Allah. By facilitating for him everything he required for his journey. Or he took care of his family's affairs during his absence. He would receive a reward equal to his reward and his struggle. Encouraging the protection of the internal front within the Muslim community. In that, there is a strengthening of the resolve of those who strive in the way of Allah. And those stationed at the frontiers to protect the integrity of Islam. Where they feel secure regarding their homes, their children, and their families. The Islamic community is a society of mutual support and cooperation in righteousness and piety. Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, dispatched a military expedition to the Banu Lihyan of the Hudhayl tribe. He then said That he would send one out of every two men, with the reward shared between them. It was recorded by Muslim. He sent, meaning he intended to send. The Banu Lihyan are the most well-known clan of the Hudhayl tribe. Among the benefits of the hadith It is not the case that all the men of a tribe or all the men of a town should go out for jihad. Rather, some of them go so far as to argue Those who remain among them shall have a reward equal to those who went forth. When they left them behind, they took good care of their families and provided for them. The hadith points to the distribution of responsibility among the members of the Ummah. For life requires various types of responsibilities. Some attend to the affairs of families, while others participate in jihad. On the authority of Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, encountered a caravan at al-Rawha'. Then he asked, "Who are the people?" The Muslims said: They asked, "Who are you?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: A woman then lifted a young boy toward him and asked, "Does this one have a Hajj?" He said, "Yes, and you shall have a reward." Recorded by Muslim. The term 'rukban' is the plural of 'rakib' (rider). Al-Rawha' is a location near Medina. Among the benefits of the hadith It is permissible for a man to inquire about a group of people if he does not know them. A Muslim should identify himself by his religion, rather than by his tribe or homeland. How true is the one who said: "My father is Islam, I have no other father but it, when they boast of their lineage to Qays or Tamim." It is permissible to ask about the one who is asking. Whoever is a cause for an act of obedience or assists in it, receives a reward as if he had performed it himself. The Hajj of a young child is permissible and valid, and he is rewarded for it, but it does not exempt him from the obligatory Hajj of Islam. Rather, it becomes mandatory for him after reaching puberty. The humility of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and how he did not distinguish himself from the rest of his Companions. That is why the people asked him, "Who are you?" so that they might recognize him. On the authority of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, peace be upon him, that he said: "The trustworthy Muslim treasurer, who carries out what he has been commanded to do, and delivers it fully and completely, with a willing heart, then hands it over to the one he was ordered to give it to, is one of the two who gives charity." Agreed upon. In another narration, "who gives what he has been commanded to give." Scholars have vocalized "al-mutasaddiqayn" (the two who give charity) in the dual form, while others have vocalized it in the plural form, and both are correct. The treasurer (al-khazin) is the one who stores the wealth of another with his permission, and is entrusted with it. "Fully" (muwaffaran) means in its entirety, despite its abundance. "With a willing heart" (tayyibatan bihi nafsuhu) means he does not envy the recipient of the charity, nor does he harm him with word or deed. Among the benefits of the hadith: The permissibility of appointing a treasurer, and that this is neither arrogance nor extravagance. Possessing an abundance of lawful wealth is not a sin. It encourages wealthy people to give charity. Whoever is appointed to carry out an act of goodness, and performs what he was entrusted with in the best possible manner, with desire for it and contentment with it, receives a reward equal to the actual doer who appointed him to it. Likewise, everyone who participates or contributes to achieving a benefit or warding off harm, even if he did not spend any money in its path. The sincere, trustworthy worker who spends from the wealth of the Ummah on public interests, receives a reward as if he had spent from his own wealth. Riyad al-Salihin.
