Forty hadiths on the virtue of charity. On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "No one gives charity from what is pure— and Allah only accepts what is pure— but that the Most Merciful takes it with His Right Hand, even if it be a single date, and it grows in the palm of the Most Merciful until it becomes greater than a mountain, just as one of you nurtures his young horse or his young camel." Recorded by Muslim. The meaning of the hadith is: That Allah the Exalted only accepts charity that is earned through pure means. He accepts even a small amount, even if it is only a single date. Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, accepts it with His Right Hand as an honor to it. Then He causes it to grow and multiplies its reward so that it will be heavy on the scales. Just as a person nurtures his young horse, which is the foal of a horse, that requires care and upbringing, or his young camel, which is the offspring of a she-camel once it has been weaned from its mother’s milk, until the charity becomes like a mountain in size and weight on the Day of Resurrection.
