00:00:34.490 Thus, on the seventeenth of Ramadan, 00:00:34.490 --> 00:00:36.490 The second year of the Hijrah. 00:00:36.490 --> 00:00:40.490 Abu Jahl met his death at the hands of the Muslims at Badr. 00:00:40.490 --> 00:00:44.490 And the sands of the well swallowed them up into its deep abyss. 00:00:44.490 --> 00:00:48.549 He was the greatest tyrant the Arabian Peninsula had ever known. al-Makhzumi al-Qurashi was 00:00:57.579 --> 00:01:01.579 a prominent chieftain among the Arabs during the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah), 00:01:01.579 --> 00:01:04.579 and one of the renowned, formidable champions of Quraysh. 00:01:04.579 --> 00:01:07.579 as well as one of their famously shrewd tacticians. 00:01:07.579 --> 00:01:10.579 And she used to address him by the kunya of Abu al-Hakam. 00:01:10.579 --> 00:01:13.579 Consequently, the Muslims gave him the title Abu Jahl. 00:01:13.579 --> 00:01:19.579 The Quraysh honored Abu Jahl with leadership even though he was a youth who had not yet reached the age of manhood. 00:01:19.579 --> 00:01:22.579 And I brought him into the Dar al-Nadwa along with the elders. 00:01:22.579 --> 00:01:25.579 He should look into her affairs and make decisions regarding her matters. 00:01:25.579 --> 00:01:29.680 It was befitting of Abu Jahl’s intellect and wisdom. 00:01:29.680 --> 00:01:33.680 That they may lead him toward belief in the call 00:01:41.680 Yet, it is nothing but obstinacy. 00:01:41.680 --> 00:01:45.680 It is this very obstinacy that cast Iblis out of Paradise. 00:01:45.680 --> 00:01:47.680 And cast Abu Jahl into the Fire. 00:01:47.680 --> 00:01:51.680 It was the obstinacy that caused Abu Jahl to listen on one occasion. 00:01:51.680 --> 00:01:56.680 He and al-Akhnas al-Thaqafi went to the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. 00:01:56.680 --> 00:02:00.680 He was reciting a portion of the clear verses of Allah. 00:02:00.680 --> 00:02:03.680 Al-Akhnas then said to Abu Jahl 00:02:03.680 --> 00:02:07.680 What is your opinion, O Abu al-Hakam, regarding what you have heard from Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him? 00:02:07.680 --> 00:02:10.680 He then asked, "What did you hear?" 00:02:10.680 --> 00:02:14.680 We and the sons of ‘Abd Manaf disputed over the matter of honor. 00:02:14.680 --> 00:02:16.680 They provided food, and so we were fed. 00:02:16.680 --> 00:02:18.680 They charged, and we charged in return. 00:02:18.680 --> 00:02:20.680 And they gave, so we gave. 00:02:20.680 --> 00:02:23.680 Until we were aligned knee-to-knee. 00:02:23.680 --> 00:02:25.680 And we were like the early generations. 00:02:25.680 --> 00:02:30.680 They said, "Among us is a Prophet to whom revelation comes down from the heavens." 00:02:30.680 --> 00:02:32.680 So when will we truly grasp that? 00:02:32.680 --> 00:02:36.680 By Allah, we shall never believe in him, nor shall we ever deem him truthful. 00:02:36.680 --> 00:02:39.740 In his obstinacy, Abu Jahl resorted to... 00:02:39.740 --> 00:02:43.740 And he employed his power and influence to harm the Muslims. 00:02:43.740 --> 00:02:46.740 Sometimes with his hand, and other times with his tongue. 00:02:46.740 --> 00:02:49.740 And a third [category] through his cunning and his intellect. 00:02:49.740 --> 00:02:53.740 Thus, Allah, glory be to Him, turned his plot back against him. 00:02:53.740 --> 00:02:56.740 And He grants him a favorable outcome in all his affairs. 00:02:56.740 --> 00:03:00.740 The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was once harmed. 00:03:00.740 --> 00:03:06.740 This was a cause for the conversion to Islam of the uncle of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. 00:03:06.740 --> 00:03:08.740 Hamzah ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib 00:03:08.740 --> 00:03:10.740 Through this, Allah strengthened Islam. 00:03:10.740 --> 00:03:12.740 The Muslims rejoiced at it. 00:03:12.740 --> 00:03:16.740 And they called Hamzah, may Allah be pleased with him, the Lion of Allah. 00:03:17.740 --> 00:03:19.740 He was like a lion against the polytheists. 00:03:19.740 --> 00:03:23.740 He and his people went to great lengths in their persecution of the Muslims. 00:03:23.740 --> 00:03:25.740 And the persecution of the vulnerable. 00:03:25.740 --> 00:03:28.740 Then He empowered the foolish among them over them. 00:03:28.740 --> 00:03:30.740 And they incited the foolish against them. 00:03:30.740 --> 00:03:33.740 That was the reason for the migration. 00:03:33.740 --> 00:03:37.740 The migration was the catalyst for the dismantling of the state of polytheism. 00:03:37.740 --> 00:03:40.740 And to elevate the word of Allah upon the earth. 00:03:40.740 --> 00:03:43.780 One day, Abu Jahl signaled to his people to gather for a council. 00:03:43.780 --> 00:03:47.780 regarding the killing of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. 00:03:47.780 --> 00:03:49.780 In order to be rid of his call. 00:03:49.780 --> 00:03:52.780 So the Quraysh acted upon his intended to visit was the house of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him. 00:04:46.870 --> 00:04:49.870 Asma' bint Abi Bakr, may Allah be pleased with her, went out to meet him. 00:04:49.870 --> 00:04:53.870 Abu Jahl then asked her, "Where is your father?" 00:04:53.870 --> 00:04:56.870 The girl replied, "I do not know." 00:04:56.870 --> 00:04:59.870 At that moment, he raised his sinful hand. 00:04:59.870 --> 00:05:02.870 And he struck Asma’ across the cheek with a harsh blow. 00:05:02.870 --> 00:05:05.870 Her earring fell off due to the intensity of it. 00:05:05.870 --> malice in Makkah 00:05:35.899 --> 00:05:38.899 The noble Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was 00:05:38.899 --> 00:05:41.899 He established the foundations of the Islamic state in Yathrib. 00:05:41.899 --> 00:05:44.899 Not much time had passed since the migration of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. 00:05:44.899 --> 00:05:47.899 May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. 00:05:47.899 --> 00:05:50.899 Except for nineteen months. 00:05:50.899 --> 00:05:53.899 until it became within the reach of the vulnerable Muhajirun 00:05:53.899 --> 00:05:56.899 To threaten the trade routes of the Quraysh with the Levant. 00:05:56.899 --> 00:05:59.899 And that they might disturb the resting places of the chieftains of Makkah. 00:05:59.899 --> 00:06:02.899 And that they should stand against Abu Jahl and his followers. 00:06:02.899 --> 00:06:04.899 And that they should inflict a defeat upon them. 00:06:04.899 --> 00:06:08.000 It changed the course of history. 00:06:08.000 --> 00:06:11.000 The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was well acquainted with 00:06:11.000 --> 00:06:14.000 That Abu Sufyan is arriving from the Levant. 00:06:14.000 --> 00:06:17.000 At the head of a major merchant caravan. 00:06:17.000 --> 00:06:20.000 In it, there are one thousand camels. 00:06:20.000 --> 00:06:23.000 Laden with the most 00:06:50.189 And his Companions had gone out to meet him. 00:06:50.189 --> 00:06:53.189 He then sent a warner to Makkah. 00:06:53.189 --> 00:06:55.189 He mobilizes them for battle. 00:06:55.189 --> Then, he prepared a great army. 00:07:25.420 --> 00:07:28.420 All the tribes of Quraysh participated in it. 00:07:28.420 --> 00:07:31.769 And to him [turned] all the leaders of Makkah. 00:07:31.769 --> 00:07:34.769 Abu Jahl slaughtered [camels] for the army on the day he departed from Makkah. 00:07:34.769 --> 00:07:37.769 Ten she-camels. 00:07:37.769 --> 00:07:40.769 Then, the leaders of Quraysh --> 00:08:31.829 Until he returned to Badr and remained there for three days. 00:08:31.829 --> 00:08:34.830 He would then slaughter camels upon it. 00:08:34.830 --> 00:08:37.830 And he drinks intoxicants in their presence. 00:08:37.830 --> 00:08:40.830 And the singing girls would play musical instruments for him by the water. 00:08:40.830 --> 00:08:43.830 And through this, the Arabs speak of him and his people. 00:08:43.830 --> 00:08:46.929 They shall hold them in awe for all eternity. 00:08:46.929 --> 00:08:49.929 Despite the fractures that had afflicted the Meccan army, 00:08:49.929 00:09:38.220 By Allah, I have indeed seen the burdens of life carrying with them great calamities. 00:09:38.220 --> 00:09:41.220 I saw a group of people who possessed no means of defense. 00:09:41.220 --> 00:09:44.220 except for their swords. 00:09:44.220 --> 00:09:47.220 And there is no refuge except in their bodies. 00:09:47.220 --> 00:09:50.220 To the point that a man among them is killed. 00:10:56.700 --> 00:10:59.919 casting themselves into the inferno of battle. 00:10:59.919 --> 00:11:02.919 The two hosts met upon the sands of Badr, 00:11:02.919 --> 00:11:05.919 and the polytheists charged at the Muslims 00:11:05.919 --> 00:11:08.919 as one man. 00:11:09.919 --> 00:11:12.919 The intensity of the back-and-forth struggle flared between the two sides, 00:11:12.919 --> 00:11:15.919 and the noble Messenger, 00:11:15.919 --> 00:11:18.919 peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, feared for his Companions, 00:11:18.919 --> 00:11:21.919 so he turned to his Lord in supplication, 00:11:21.919 --> 00:11:24.919 raising his voice in appeal as he said: 00:11:24.919 --> 00:11:27.919 "O Allah, I beseech You for Your covenant and Your promise." 00:11:27.919 --> 00:11:31.210 The Messenger, may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, then cast 00:11:31.210 --> 00:11:34.210 himself into the heat of the battle. 00:11:34.210 --> 00:11:37.210 No sooner did his Companions see him advancing to the front lines 00:11:37.210 --> 00:11:40.210 than their souls ignited with fervor, 00:11:40.210 --> 00:11:43.210 and they surged behind him like a torrent, 00:11:43.210 --> 00:11:46.210 while he recited: 00:11:46.210 --> 00:11:49.210 “The hosts will all be routed and will turn and flee.” (54:45) 00:11:49.210 --> 00:11:52.210 "Rather, the Hour is their appointed time, 00:11:52.210 --> 00:11:55.210 and the Hour is more grievous and more bitter." 00:11:55.210 --> 00:11:58.210 Panic then struck the hearts of the polytheists, 00:11:58.210 --> 00:12:01.210 and their ranks began to flee. 00:12:01.210 --> 00:12:04.210 The Muslims pursued them relentlessly, 00:12:04.210 --> 00:12:07.210 killing some and taking others captive. 00:12:07.210 --> 00:12:10.370 Yet Abu Jahl 00:12:10.370 --> 00:12:13.370 turned into a raging bull, 00:12:13.370 --> 00:12:16.370 standing firm in the battle and crying out: 00:12:16.370 --> 00:12:19.370 "By Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza, we shall not retreat 00:12:19.370 --> 00:12:22.370 until we disperse Muhammad and his Companions 00:12:22.370 --> 00:12:25.370 and drive them into the mountains." 00:12:25.370 --> 00:12:28.370 But Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza did not grant victory to Abu Jahl, 00:12:28.370 --> 00:12:31.370 for he fell prostrate, struck by the swords of the Muslims, 00:12:31.370 --> 00:12:34.370 his head pierced by the spears of the oppressed 00:12:34.370 --> 00:12:37.370 who had once fled from his tyranny and harm. 00:12:37.370 --> 00:12:40.429 Allah fulfilled His promise and granted victory to His servant, 00:12:40.429 --> 00:12:43.429 the polytheists turned their backs in retreat, 00:12:43.429 --> 00:12:46.429 and it was said: "Away with the wrongdoing people."
