00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.200
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

00:00:05.160 --> 00:00:08.039
The Summary of Tafsir al-Tabari,

00:00:08.580 --> 00:00:12.740
Abridged by Dr. Oqeel Ibn Salim al-Shammari.

00:00:13.949 --> 00:00:16.030
Surah al-Baqarah.

00:00:17.789 --> 00:00:22.789
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

00:00:23.329 --> 00:00:27.089
“They question thee about strong drink and games of chance. Say: In both is great sin, and (some) utility for men; but the sin of them is greater than their usefulness. And they ask thee what they ought to spend. Say: that which is superfluous. Thus Allah maketh plain to you (His) revelations, that haply ye may reflect.” (2:219)

00:00:27.089 --> 00:00:34.289

00:00:34.450 --> 00:00:41.490

00:00:41.490 --> 00:00:46.609
"And they ask you what they should spend."

00:00:46.609 --> 00:00:48.369
"Say: The surplus."

00:00:48.369 --> 00:00:56.369
"Thus does Allah make clear to you the signs that you might give thought."

00:00:56.369 --> 00:01:01.890
Your companions ask you, O Muhammad, about wine, drinking it, and gambling.

00:01:01.890 --> 00:01:03.890
Say to them, O Muhammad:

00:01:04.129 --> 00:01:07.170
In wine and gambling lies great sin.

00:01:07.170 --> 00:01:09.170
For the drinker of wine, when intoxicated,

00:01:09.170 --> 00:01:11.170
Loses the awareness of his Lord,

00:01:11.170 --> 00:01:13.170
And that is among the greatest of sins;

00:01:13.170 --> 00:01:17.170
While gambling distracts from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer,

00:01:17.170 --> 00:01:23.170
And causes enmity and hatred to arise among the players on its account.

00:01:23.170 --> 00:01:27.170
Yet in wine there were financial benefits from its sale before it was prohibited,

00:01:27.170 --> 00:01:31.170
As well as the pleasure they derived from drinking it;

00:01:31.170 --> 00:01:33.170
And the benefits of gambling

00:01:33.170 --> 00:01:36.170
Lay in the portions of slaughtered camel meat they would win.

00:01:36.170 --> 00:01:40.170
That was because they used to gamble for the slaughtered camel,

00:01:40.170 --> 00:01:44.170
And when a man triumphed over his fellow, he would slaughter his camel,

00:01:44.170 --> 00:01:48.299
Then divide it into shares according to the number of arrows drawn.

00:01:48.299 --> 00:01:50.299
But the sin involved in wine and gambling

00:01:50.299 --> 00:01:56.299
Is far greater and more harmful to them than any benefit they might derive from both.

00:01:56.299 --> 00:02:00.299
For whenever they became intoxicated, they would assault one another,

00:02:00.299 --> 00:02:02.299
And fight among themselves;

00:02:02.299 --> 00:02:05.299
And whenever they gambled, evil broke out between them,

00:02:05.299 --> 00:02:09.300
Leading them into sinful deeds.

00:02:09.300 --> 00:02:12.300
And your companions ask you, O Muhammad,

00:02:12.300 --> 00:02:15.300
What they should spend of their wealth

00:02:15.300 --> 00:02:17.300
By way of charity.

00:02:17.300 --> 00:02:19.300
So say to them, O Muhammad:

00:02:19.300 --> 00:02:25.300
Spend from it whatever is surplus to a person’s own needs and the provision of his family,

00:02:25.300 --> 00:02:27.300
Over and above what is indispensable to them.

00:02:28.300 --> 00:02:33.300
This is not an obligatory duty made incumbent by Allah as an absolute right upon the wealth,

00:02:33.300 --> 00:02:39.300
But rather a notification from Allah of the spending that pleases Him as opposed to what earns His displeasure.

00:02:39.300 --> 00:02:43.300
Thus, its ruling remains established, neither abrogating nor abrogated.

00:02:43.300 --> 00:02:46.300
In this way have I clarified to you My guiding signs and My proofs,

00:02:46.300 --> 00:02:50.300
Made known to you that which contains your deliverance from My punishment,

00:02:50.300 --> 00:02:54.300
And clearly set forth for you My boundaries and My obligatory duties,

00:02:54.300 --> 00:02:59.300
So that you may reflect upon My promise and My threat, My reward and My punishment,

00:02:59.300 --> 00:03:05.300
And thereby choose obedience, by which you attain My reward in the Hereafter

00:03:05.300 --> 00:03:07.300
And win eternal bliss,

00:03:07.300 --> 00:03:11.300
Rather than preferring fleeting pleasures and trivial desires

00:03:11.300 --> 00:03:15.300
Through embarking upon disobedience to Me in this transient world.

00:03:25.840 --> 00:03:30.840
"And if you mix your affairs with theirs, then they are your brothers."

00:03:30.840 --> 00:03:34.840
“Upon the world and the Hereafter. And they question thee concerning orphans. Say: To improve their lot is best. And if ye mingle your affairs with theirs, then (they are) your brothers. Allah knoweth him who spoileth from him who improveth. Had Allah willed He could have overburdened you. Allah is Mighty, Wise.” (2:220)

00:03:34.840 --> 00:03:39.840

00:03:39.840 --> 00:03:45.840
"Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise."

00:03:45.840 --> 00:03:50.219
Your companions ask you, O Muhammad, concerning the property of orphans,

00:03:50.219 --> 00:03:55.219
And pooling their wealth with theirs in spending, food, drink,

00:03:55.219 --> 00:03:58.219
Housing, and domestic service.

00:03:58.219 --> 00:04:02.219
Say to them: Your gracious favor toward them by managing and improving their property,

00:04:02.219 --> 00:04:05.219
Without causing any loss to their wealth,

00:04:05.219 --> 00:04:09.219
Is better for you with Allah and brings you a greater reward,

00:04:09.219 --> 00:04:13.219
And is better for them regarding their wealth in their immediate worldly life,

00:04:13.219 --> 00:04:17.220
Because of how it preserves their assets intact for them.

00:04:17.220 --> 00:04:22.220
But if you mix your affairs with theirs, sharing with them in your expenditures, your food,

00:04:22.220 --> 00:04:25.220
Your drink, and your dwellings,

00:04:25.220 --> 00:04:29.220
Taking from their wealth compensation in return for managing their affairs

00:04:29.220 --> 00:04:33.220
And maintaining their property, they are nevertheless your brothers,

00:04:33.220 --> 00:04:36.220
And brothers naturally assist one another.

00:04:36.220 --> 00:04:41.220
Even though your Lord has permitted you to mix your affairs with the orphans,

00:04:41.220 --> 00:04:44.220
Be mindful of Allah regarding yourselves;

00:04:44.220 --> 00:04:47.220
For He knows well who among you mixes his affairs with an orphan,

00:04:47.220 --> 00:04:51.220
Sharing with him in his food, drink, and dwelling,

00:04:51.220 --> 00:04:54.220
And what his true intention is behind that co-mingling:

00:04:54.220 --> 00:04:58.220
Is it to consume his wealth wrongfully, or to improve and cultivate it?

00:04:58.220 --> 00:05:01.220
For nothing of it is hidden from Him,

00:05:01.220 --> 00:05:06.220
And He knows which of you intends to preserve the wealth and which intends to squander it.

00:05:06.220 --> 00:05:12.220
Had Allah willed, He could have forbidden the co-mingling with your orphans that He made lawful for you,

00:05:12.220 --> 00:05:15.220
Which would have exhausted you and caused you hardship.

00:05:15.220 --> 00:05:21.220
Yet He granted you a concession and made it easy for you out of mercy toward you.

00:05:21.220 --> 00:05:24.220
Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might throughout His dominion;

00:05:24.220 --> 00:05:28.220
Nothing can hinder Him from sending down any punishment upon you

00:05:28.220 --> 00:05:33.220
Had He burdened you with obligations beyond your capacity to fulfill,

00:05:33.220 --> 00:05:35.220
Whereupon you fell short in carrying them out.

00:05:35.220 --> 00:05:39.220
And He is All-Wise in doing so had He afflicted you with it,

00:05:39.220 --> 00:05:42.220
As He is in all other rulings and decrees of His governance;

00:05:42.220 --> 00:05:46.220
No flaw or deficiency ever touches His deeds.

00:06:09.639 --> 00:06:16.639
A believer is better than an idolater, even if he pleases you.

00:06:16.639 --> 00:06:22.639
“Wed not idolatresses till they believe; for lo! a believing bondwoman is better than an idolatress though she please you; and give not your daughters in marriage to idolaters till they believe, for lo! a believing slave is better than an idolater though he please you. These invite unto the Fire, and Allah inviteth unto the Garden, and unto forgiveness by His grace, and expoundeth His revelations to mankind that haply they may remember.” (2:221)

00:06:22.639 --> 00:06:28.639

00:06:28.639 --> 00:06:36.639

00:06:36.639 --> 00:06:43.089
Do not marry idolatrous women who are not from the People of the Book, O believers, until they believe,

00:06:43.089 --> 00:06:47.089
Accepting faith in Allah, His Messenger, and what was revealed to him.

00:06:47.089 --> 00:06:50.089
For a believing bondwoman who has faith in Allah and His Messenger

00:06:50.089 --> 00:06:55.089
Is better in the sight of Allah and more virtuous than a free idolatrous woman who disbelieves,

00:06:55.089 --> 00:06:59.089
Even if the idolatrous woman pleases you in beauty, lineage, or wealth.

00:06:59.089 --> 00:07:04.089
So do not seek marriage among noblewomen from among the polytheists,

00:07:04.089 --> 00:07:10.089
For Muslim bondwomen are better to marry in the sight of Allah than they are.

00:07:10.089 --> 00:07:14.089
Allah has likewise forbidden believing women from marrying polytheistic men,

00:07:14.089 --> 00:07:18.089
So do not give them in marriage to them, O believers;

00:07:18.089 --> 00:07:20.089
For that is strictly unlawful for you.

00:07:20.089 --> 00:07:26.089
Giving them in marriage to a believing slave who accepts Allah and His Messenger

00:07:26.089 --> 00:07:30.089
Is better for you than giving them in marriage to a free polytheist,

00:07:31.089 --> 00:07:34.089
Even if his nobility and lineage impress you.

00:07:34.089 --> 00:07:38.089
For those whose marriage has been forbidden to you, O believers,

00:07:38.089 --> 00:07:42.089
Whether polytheistic men or polytheistic women,

00:07:42.089 --> 00:07:46.089
Call you to deeds that lead you into the Fire,

00:07:46.089 --> 00:07:50.089
Whereas Allah calls you to deeds that admit you into Paradise

00:07:50.089 --> 00:07:53.089
And to that which wipes away your misdeeds,

00:07:53.089 --> 00:07:59.089
By making known to you His path and His way that leads to Paradise and forgiveness.

00:07:59.089 --> 00:08:05.089
And He makes clear His proofs and signs in His Book revealed through His Messenger,

00:08:05.089 --> 00:08:08.089
That they may take heed and learn the lesson.

00:08:29.569 --> 00:08:35.570
Your companions ask you, O Muhammad, about menstruation.

00:08:35.570 --> 00:08:40.570
Say: It is an impurity, due to its foul smell, uncleanness, and filth;

00:08:40.570 --> 00:08:45.240
So refrain from sexual intercourse with women,

00:08:45.240 --> 00:08:48.240
And avoid intimate contact with them,

00:08:48.240 --> 00:08:51.720
And avoid intimate contact with them,

00:08:51.720 --> 00:08:54.720
And avoid intimate contact with them,

00:08:54.720 --> 00:08:57.720
And avoid intimate contact with them;

00:08:57.720 --> 00:09:01.720
Refrain from sexual intercourse with women during their menstruation,

00:09:01.720 --> 00:09:05.720
And do not approach them intimately until they have washed themselves,

00:09:05.720 --> 00:09:08.720
Becoming pure from their menses after the bleeding has ceased.

00:09:08.720 --> 00:09:11.720
Then, when they have performed ghusl and purified themselves with water,

00:09:11.720 --> 00:09:13.720
Have intercourse with them,

00:09:13.720 --> 00:09:18.720
Approaching them in the vagina from the manner that Allah has permitted you to approach them,

00:09:18.720 --> 00:09:22.720
Which is during their state of purity and post-cleansing,

00:09:22.720 --> 00:09:24.720
Not during their state of menstruation.

00:09:24.720 --> 00:09:27.720
Indeed, Allah loves those who constantly turn back to Him from sins,

00:09:27.720 --> 00:09:31.720
And He loves those who purify themselves with water for prayer.

00:09:31.720 --> 00:09:40.169
"Your women are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth however you will,"

00:09:40.169 --> 00:09:44.169
"And put forth good for yourselves,"

00:09:44.169 --> 00:09:51.169
"And fear Allah, and know that you will meet Him,"

00:09:51.169 --> 00:09:55.169
"And give glad tidings to the believers,"

00:10:21.679 --> 00:10:23.679
In My messengers and in meeting Me,

00:10:23.679 --> 00:10:27.870
Confirming their faith in word through their righteous deeds.

00:10:27.870 --> 00:10:32.870
“And make not Allah, by your oaths, a hindrance to your being righteous and observing your duty unto Him and making peace among mankind. Allah is Hearer, Knower.” (2:224)

00:10:32.870 --> 00:10:43.870
“And make not Allah, by your oaths, a hindrance to your being righteous and observing your duty unto Him and making peace among mankind. Allah is Hearer, Knower.” (2:224)

00:10:43.870 --> 00:10:47.870
"And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing."

00:10:47.870 --> 00:10:53.799
Do not make swearing by Allah an excuse to abstain from doing good,

00:10:53.799 --> 00:10:58.799
Or from fearing your Lord, being cautious of Him and His punishment regarding His obligations,

00:10:58.799 --> 00:11:02.799
And His boundaries lest you neglect or transgress them,

00:11:02.799 --> 00:11:07.799
Or from reconciling between people in righteousness wherein there is no sin,

00:11:07.799 --> 00:11:11.799
And in that which Allah loves rather than what He detests.

00:11:11.799 --> 00:11:15.799
For Allah is All-Hearing of what the swearer among you says when taking an oath,

00:11:15.799 --> 00:11:21.799
Claiming: "By Allah, I will not be dutiful, nor fear Allah, nor reconcile between people!"

00:11:21.799 --> 00:11:26.799
He is All-Knowing of what you intend and seek by taking such an oath,

00:11:26.799 --> 00:11:30.799
For I am the Knower of the unseen and of what the breasts conceal.

00:11:30.799 --> 00:11:37.279
"Allah will not call you to account for what is unintentional in your oaths,"

00:11:37.279 --> 00:11:43.279
“Allah will not take you to task for that which is unintentional in your oaths. But He will take you to task for that which your hearts have garnered. Allah is Forgiving, Clement.” (2:225)

00:11:43.279 --> 00:11:47.279
"And Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing."

00:11:47.279 --> 00:11:52.600
Allah will not hold you accountable for unintended slips of your tongues in your oaths,

00:11:52.600 --> 00:11:58.600
Pronounced as careless or improper oaths without deliberate intent to commit a sin;

00:11:58.600 --> 00:12:04.600
Rather, He only holds you accountable for what you bind deliberately with sworn intent.

00:12:04.600 --> 00:12:08.600
In that case, it entails either an immediate expiation in this life,

00:12:08.600 --> 00:12:11.600
Or a deferred punishment in the Hereafter.

00:12:11.600 --> 00:12:13.600
As for the deferred punishment,

00:12:13.600 --> 00:12:17.600
It applies to one who swears about something he did not do, asserting that he did it,

00:12:17.600 --> 00:12:21.600
Or about something he did do, asserting that he did not do it,

00:12:21.600 --> 00:12:23.600
Intentionally uttering a falsehood.

00:12:23.600 --> 00:12:28.600
The one who swears such an oath remains subject to Allah's will on the Day of Resurrection:

00:12:28.600 --> 00:12:31.600
If He wills, He will punish him for it in the Hereafter,

00:12:31.600 --> 00:12:34.600
And if He wills, He will pardon him out of His grace;

00:12:34.600 --> 00:12:38.600
Nor is any worldly expiation required of him for it,

00:12:38.600 --> 00:12:42.600
Because it is not among the oaths in which expiation can remedy a breach.

00:12:42.600 --> 00:12:44.600
But as for the immediate expiation,

00:12:44.600 --> 00:12:48.600
Whenever one breaches a binding oath, he is held liable for the expiation.

00:12:48.600 --> 00:12:53.600
And Allah is All-Forgiving to His servants regarding the unintentional slips of their oaths,

00:12:53.600 --> 00:12:59.600
All-Forbearing in not rushing punishment upon the people of disobedience for their sins.

00:12:59.600 --> 00:13:07.950
“Those who forswear their wives must wait four months; then, if they change their mind, lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” (2:226)

00:13:07.950 --> 00:13:14.950
“Those who forswear their wives must wait four months; then, if they change their mind, lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” (2:226)

00:13:14.950 --> 00:13:20.210
For those who swear an oath to abstain from their wives,

00:13:20.210 --> 00:13:23.210
There is a waiting period of four months;

00:13:23.210 --> 00:13:26.210
If they return and abandon what they swore upon,

00:13:26.210 --> 00:13:32.210
Resuming intimacy with them, then Allah is All-Forgiving for whatever occurred of falsehood in their oaths,

00:13:32.210 --> 00:13:35.210
And Merciful toward them and others.

00:13:35.210 --> 00:13:42.370
“And if they decide upon divorce (let them remember that) Allah is Hearer, Knower.” (2:227)

00:13:42.370 --> 00:13:45.590
And if they resolve upon divorce and proceed to divorce them,

00:13:45.590 --> 00:13:49.590
Then Allah is All-Hearing of their pronouncement of divorce when they issue it,

00:13:49.590 --> 00:13:55.590
All-Knowing of what they bring upon them of what is lawful or unlawful.

00:13:56.720 --> 00:14:05.720
“Women who are divorced shall wait, keeping themselves apart, three (monthly) courses. And it is not lawful for them that they should conceal that which Allah hath created in their wombs if they are believers in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands would do better to take them back in that case if they desire a reconciliation. And they (women) have rights similar to those (of men) over them in kindness, and men are a degree above them. Allah is Mighty, Wise.” (2:228)

00:14:05.720 --> 00:14:18.909

00:14:18.909 --> 00:14:24.909
In Allah and the Last Day.

00:14:24.909 --> 00:14:33.909

00:14:33.909 --> 00:14:40.909

00:14:40.909 --> 00:14:48.909

00:14:48.909 --> 00:14:54.360
Divorced women who experience menstruation and cycles of purity

00:14:54.360 --> 00:14:57.360
Must wait concerning themselves for three intervals of purity,

00:14:57.360 --> 00:15:01.360
With a period of purity separating each menstruation,

00:15:01.360 --> 00:15:06.360
Which is contrary to counting the menstrual periods themselves as the prescribed wait.

00:15:06.360 --> 00:15:14.360
It is unlawful for divorced women to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs of menses or pregnancy upon being divorced,

00:15:14.360 --> 00:15:19.360
Intending thereby to invalidate their husbands' right of taking them back.

00:15:19.360 --> 00:15:28.360
And the husbands of the divorced women have greater right to take them back during their waiting period, if they desire reconciliation.

00:15:28.360 --> 00:15:35.360
Each spouse owes the other an obligation not to cause harm, equivalent to the right held over the other;

00:15:35.360 --> 00:15:40.360
Yet men have a degree over women by virtue of their duty of leadership and financial provision,

00:15:40.360 --> 00:15:44.360
And their pardoning of certain rights due to them from women.

00:15:44.360 --> 00:15:48.360
And Allah is Mighty in His retribution against whoever disobeys His command,

00:15:48.360 --> 00:15:51.360
Wise in all that He has ordained for His creation.

00:15:51.360 --> 00:15:55.679
"Divorce is twice;"

00:15:55.679 --> 00:16:03.679
"Then retain honorably or release with kindness."

00:16:03.679 --> 00:16:17.679
“Divorce must be pronounced twice and then (a woman) must be retained in honour or released in kindness. And it is not lawful for you that ye take from women aught of that which ye have given them; except (in the case) when both fear that they may not be able to keep within the limits (imposed by) Allah. And if ye fear that they may not be able to keep the limits of Allah, in that case it is no sin for either of them if the woman ransom herself. These are the limits (imposed by) Allah. Transgress them not. For whoso transgresseth Allah's limits: such are wrong-doers.” (2:229)

00:16:17.679 --> 00:16:21.679
"Lest they should fail to uphold the limits of Allah."

00:16:21.679 --> 00:16:25.679
"And if you fear that they cannot keep the limits of Allah,"

00:16:25.679 --> 00:16:30.679

00:16:30.679 --> 00:16:34.679
"These are the limits of Allah, so do not transgress them."

00:16:34.679 --> 00:16:44.679

00:16:44.679 --> 00:16:49.220
The revocable divorce in which taking back the wife is permissible occurs twice;

00:16:49.220 --> 00:16:53.220
Thereafter, the command upon taking them back after the second divorce is:

00:16:53.220 --> 00:16:55.220
Either retaining them in an honorable manner,

00:16:55.220 --> 00:16:59.220
Or releasing them gracefully

00:16:59.220 --> 00:17:03.220
By issuing the third divorce so that she becomes irrevocably separated from them.

00:17:03.220 --> 00:17:10.220
And it is not lawful for you, O men, if you wish to divorce your wives, to take back

00:17:10.220 --> 00:17:13.220
Anything from what you gave them of their bridal dower,

00:17:13.220 --> 00:17:18.220
Unless both of you fear failing to uphold the limits of Allah due to her discord,

00:17:18.220 --> 00:17:25.220
So that it is feared she will abandon obedience to Allah regarding her husband's mandatory rights,

00:17:25.220 --> 00:17:29.220
And it is feared the husband will fail to fulfill his obligations toward her.

00:17:29.220 --> 00:17:34.220
If you fear that they will not maintain what Allah made obligatory upon both of them

00:17:34.220 --> 00:17:40.220
Concerning the rights incumbent upon each spouse to treat the other with kindness,

00:17:40.220 --> 00:17:46.220
There is no blame upon either of them for what the woman offers as ransom to free herself from her husband,

00:17:46.220 --> 00:17:50.220
Nor is there any sin upon her husband in what he takes of that compensation.

00:17:50.220 --> 00:17:56.220
These are the clear demarcations distinguishing what has been made lawful for you from what has been made unlawful, O people;

00:17:56.220 --> 00:18:01.220
So do not overstep what I made lawful for you into what I made unlawful for you.

00:18:01.220 --> 00:18:09.220
For whoever transgresses into what I made unlawful for him is indeed the wrongdoer who commits what he has no right to commit,

00:18:09.220 --> 00:18:12.640
Placing a matter where it does not belong.

00:18:12.640 --> 00:18:21.640
“And if he hath divorced her (the third time), then she is not lawful unto him thereafter until she hath wedded another husband. Then if he (the other husband) divorce her it is no sin for both of them that they come together again if they consider that they are able to observe the limits of Allah. These are the limits of Allah. He manifesteth them for people who have knowledge.” (2:230)

00:18:21.640 --> 00:18:31.640

00:18:31.640 --> 00:18:38.640
if both feel confident that they can maintain the limits ordained by Allah.

00:18:38.640 --> 00:18:46.960

00:18:46.960 --> 00:18:51.960
That wife of his is not lawful for him after the third divorce,

00:18:51.960 --> 00:18:54.960
until she marries a husband other than the one who divorced her.

00:18:54.960 --> 00:19:01.089
If this new husband divorces her after her irrevocable separation from the first,

00:19:01.089 --> 00:19:07.089
then there is no blame on the woman and the first husband if they reunite through a new marriage contract,

00:19:07.089 --> 00:19:11.089
provided they hold a sincere expectation that they will uphold what He has commanded them.

00:19:11.089 --> 00:19:16.089
These are the matters that He has clarified to His servants regarding divorce and taking back wives;

00:19:16.089 --> 00:19:23.089
He details and distinguishes them for a people who comprehend them once Allah has made them clear to them.

00:19:23.089 --> 00:19:35.440
"And when you divorce women and they reach their term, retain them with kindness,"

00:19:35.440 --> 00:19:43.440
“When ye have divorced women, and they have reached their term, then retain them in kindness or release them in kindness. Retain them not to their hurt so that ye transgress (the limits). He who doeth that hath wronged his soul. Make not the revelations of Allah a laughing-stock (by your behaviour), but remember Allah's grace upon you and that which He hath revealed unto you of the Scripture and of wisdom, whereby He doth exhort you. Observe your duty to Allah and know that Allah is Aware of all things.” (2:231)

00:19:43.440 --> 00:19:48.440

00:19:48.440 --> 00:19:54.440

00:19:54.440 --> 00:19:59.440

00:19:59.440 --> 00:20:10.440

00:20:10.440 --> 00:20:17.440

00:20:17.440 --> 00:20:21.819
And when you, O men, divorce your wives,

00:20:21.819 --> 00:20:26.819
and they reach their appointed term prescribed for them by the completion of their cycles,

00:20:26.819 --> 00:20:32.819
then take them back in the permitted manner by bringing witnesses to the reconciliation before the waiting period ends,

00:20:32.819 --> 00:20:36.819
or let them complete the remainder of their waiting period,

00:20:36.819 --> 00:20:39.819
by fully fulfilling all of their rights incumbent upon you,

00:20:39.819 --> 00:20:44.819
according to what He has obligated upon you concerning their mahr, mut'ah gift, and financial support,

00:20:44.819 --> 00:20:47.819
and other such rights belonging to them.

00:20:47.819 --> 00:20:50.819
And do not take them back merely to cause them harm,

00:20:50.819 --> 00:20:54.819
so as to prolong for them the duration of their waiting periods,

00:20:54.819 --> 00:20:58.819
or to reclaim from them part of what you had given them

00:20:58.819 --> 00:21:00.819
by forcing them to seek khul' from you.

00:21:00.819 --> 00:21:06.819
And whoever takes back his wife after divorcing her out of malice, so as to transgress the boundary of Allah,

00:21:06.819 --> 00:21:08.819
has indeed wronged himself.

00:21:08.819 --> 00:21:15.819
And do not treat the clear signs of Allah and His distinctions between His lawful and unlawful as an object of mockery and play,

00:21:15.819 --> 00:21:22.819
for He has clearly explained to you in His revelation what is permitted to you regarding taking back a wife and what is not.

00:21:22.819 --> 00:21:25.819
And remember the favor of Allah upon you through Islam,

00:21:25.819 --> 00:21:30.819
and remember also what He has revealed to you of the Qur'an, and act upon it,

00:21:30.819 --> 00:21:37.819
and remember what He has sent down to you of the Sunnahs that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, taught you.

00:21:37.819 --> 00:21:41.819
He admonishes you through the Book that He has sent down to you.

00:21:41.819 --> 00:21:43.819
And fear Allah,

00:21:43.819 --> 00:21:48.819
and know that your Lord is fully aware of everything that you do,

00:21:48.819 --> 00:21:52.819
and He will requite good with good,

00:21:52.819 --> 00:21:54.819
and evil with evil.

00:21:54.819 --> 00:22:17.269
“And when ye have divorced women and they reach their term, place not difficulties in the way of their marrying their husbands if it is agreed between them in kindness. This is an admonition for him among you who believeth in Allah and the Last Day. That is more virtuous for you, and cleaner. Allah knoweth; ye know not.” (2:232)

00:22:17.269 --> 00:22:26.269

00:22:26.269 --> 00:22:30.269

00:22:30.269 --> 00:22:36.269
And Allah knows, while you do not know.

00:22:37.269 --> 00:22:48.849
And when you divorce women and they reach their term, thus becoming irrevocably separated from you, do not distress them by preventing them, O guardians,

00:22:48.849 --> 00:22:52.849
from remarrying their former husbands through a new contract,

00:22:52.849 --> 00:22:59.849
seeking thereby to cause them harm, once the husbands and women have mutually agreed upon what is lawful

00:22:59.849 --> 00:23:06.849
and permissible as a bridal gift for their intimacy, through an entirely new marriage contract.

00:23:06.849 --> 00:23:11.849
This prohibition that I have placed upon you against hindering them is an admonition from Me

00:23:11.849 --> 00:23:17.849
to whichever of you, O people, believes in Allah, singles Him out in worship, and affirms His lordship,

00:23:17.849 --> 00:23:22.849
and believes in the Resurrection for recompense, reward, and punishment.

00:23:22.849 --> 00:23:28.849
Remarrying their former husbands is better and more virtuous in the sight of Allah than their separation from them,

00:23:28.849 --> 00:23:34.849
and purer for your hearts, their hearts, and their husbands' hearts from suspicion;

00:23:34.849 --> 00:23:40.849
that is because, if mutual affection remains in the hearts of both the man and the woman,

00:23:40.849 --> 00:23:45.849
one cannot be certain that it will not transgress into that which Allah has forbidden them,

00:23:45.849 --> 00:23:53.849
nor can their guardians be safe from having suspicions cross their minds of which both parties might well be innocent.

00:23:53.849 --> 00:24:03.289
For I know of the suitor's and the woman's hearts what you do not know of longing and love.
