Stories of the Prophets. Stories of the Prophets. Stories of the Prophets. Peace be upon them. The prayers of Allah. Followed by peace. Upon the best. Of all creation. The possessors of firm resolve. Of lofty station. And the light. Of guidance. The story of Nuh. Peace be upon him. In the lands of Iraq. In the northeast of the Arabian Peninsula. There was. A people known as. Banu Rasib. Between them and Adam, peace be upon him, there were. Ten centuries. They spent those long centuries. As a single Ummah. Upon monotheism. Among them were five men. Who were righteous. Renowned for their worship. Until the people grew to love them. They were Wadd, Suwa', Yaghuth, Ya'uq, and Nasr. When these. Righteous men died. Satan came. In the guise of a sincere elder. To the people who lived. In their time. And suggested that they create. Images of those righteous men. And fashion for them. Statues, and place them. In prominent places. So that when they saw them. They would remember them. And that would be a cause. For their diligence in worship. As well. So the people did what. Satan commanded them. And they continued in that. Until those people died. And a generation came after them. Then others. And so on. Until the purpose of these images. And statues was forgotten. Then Satan came to the people. And said to them. That these images were what. Those before you used to seek intercession through. And because of them. Rain would descend upon them. And they used to call upon them. So you call upon them as well. So they called upon them instead of. Allah, and worshipped. These images and statues. And this was. The first shirk on earth. And among those. People was a righteous man. Called Nuh Ibn Lamak. He did not drift into. What his people had descended into. So he isolated himself from them and their shirk. And he was. Tending to his small flock of sheep. And living with his small family. Consisting of his wife. And his four sons. Who were Yam, Sam, Ham, and Yafith. Allah the Exalted revealed. To Nuh, peace be upon him. So he became a prophet. And He sent him to his people. As a warner and a cautioner. Thus he became the first. Messenger to the people of the earth. Nuh complied with. The command of Allah the Exalted. And began calling his people. To the worship of Allah alone. Warning them against shirk. And encouraging them toward the good. From Allah the Exalted. He was steadfast in His command. And he employed with them every. Possible method of da'wah. He would call them. By night and by day. But it only increased them. In flight. And they would mock him. And behave with poor manners. Whenever he spoke with them. “And lo! whenever I call unto them that Thou mayst pardon them they thrust their fingers in their ears and cover themselves with their garments and persist (in their refusal) and magnify themselves in pride.” (71:7) They would cover their heads. With their garments. Persisting in their disbelief. And acting arrogantly against. Hearing the truth. Nuh, peace be upon him, did not stop. Despite all those actions. From them. Sometimes he would call them. In public. And other times he would advise them privately. All of this out of his concern. And his fear for them. And he would entice them. That if they believed in Allah. Allah would send down upon them. Rain from the sky in abundance. And increase them in wealth. And children. And provide them with gardens. On earth. And cause rivers to flow for them therein. And he would warn them. Of the punishment of Allah the Exalted. If they disobeyed His command. And Nuh, peace be upon him. Would also command them to reflect. On Allah's creation of the heavens. And how Allah placed. In them the sun and the moon. As a sign of His power. And His magnificent craftsmanship. And he would command them to reflect on the earth. How Allah spread it out. Before them. And carved out wide paths for them therein. So that they could move about. With ease. But all of that. Was of no avail to them. They persisted in their denial. And their plotting against their prophet. And those with him, a great plot. Allah the Exalted said. He said, "My Lord, Indeed I have called. My people by night. And by day. But it did not increase them. In my call. Except in flight. And indeed, Whenever I called them. That You might forgive them. They put their fingers. In their ears. And covered themselves with their garments. And persisted. And were arrogant. With great arrogance. Then indeed, I called them publicly. Then indeed, I announced to them. And I spoke to them. In private. And said, 'Ask forgiveness of. Your Lord; indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send. The sky. Upon you. In abundance. And give you increase. In wealth. And children. And provide for you. Gardens. And provide for you. Gardens. And provide for you. Rivers.' “What aileth you that ye hope not toward Allah for dignity” (71:13) To Allah with reverence. While He has created you. In stages." Nuh's people would mock. Him and those with him. And argue by saying. "How can we follow. A human being like us? Why did Allah not send down upon us. Angels? And how can we follow you. And we see that your followers are the lowest among us, in our superficial judgment, adopting your opinions without reflection or study. We do not see that you possess any superiority over us, O Nuh. So why should we follow you? Then, it ended with them accusing their prophet of lying, misguidance, and madness. Then they threatened him with stoning, saying: "If you do not desist, O Nuh, from disparaging our gods and disturbing us in our gatherings, you shall certainly be among those stoned." Nuh, peace be upon him, did not heed the threats of his people, nor did he falter in calling them and fulfilling the message of his Lord to them. He called them for a thousand years, less fifty years, without weariness or boredom, until his people grew weary of him. They said to him, by way of challenge: “They said: O Noah! Thou hast disputed with us and multiplied disputation with us; now bring upon us that wherewith thou threatenest us, if thou art of the truthful.” (11:32) "You have argued with us too much, so bring upon us what you threaten us with of punishment, if you are truthful in your claim." He would reply to them that this rests with Allah; if He wills to punish you, you cannot escape Him. As for me, I have no duty except clear notification. And after these long years, none believed in Nuh, peace be upon him, except a few of his people. It is said that there believed with him eight, and it is said eighty, at the highest estimate. At that point, Allah the Exalted revealed to Nuh: "Peace." “And it was inspired in Noah, (saying): No-one of thy folk will believe save him who hath believed already. Be not distressed because of what they do.” (11:36) “And it was inspired in Noah, (saying): No-one of thy folk will believe save him who hath believed already. Be not distressed because of what they do.” (11:36) Do not grieve, O Nuh, over the disbelief of those who disbelieved, or the destruction of those upon whom the decree of punishment has been justified. At that, Nuh, peace be upon him, prayed against his people, saying: “And Noah said: My Lord! Leave not one of the disbelievers in the land.” (71:26) "Do not leave upon the earth any inhabitant among the disbelievers." "My Lord, I am overpowered." So the gates of heaven were opened for his supplication, and Allah answered him. Thus came the destruction and ruin for everyone on earth. Allah the Exalted commanded Nuh, peace be upon him, to cease calling his people and to begin building a ship that would be a means of salvation for him and for those with him. Nuh, peace be upon him, complied with the command of his Lord, building a ship by revelation from Allah and instruction. His people would pass by him and say: "O Nuh, you were a prophet, but today you have become a carpenter?" And they would say, mocking him: "We know of a ship that sails on the sea, but you are making it move on land!" And they would laugh. Nuh, peace be upon him, would answer them with the steadfastness of mountains: "If you mock us today, we shall mock you just as you mock." Nuh continued his work until he had crafted a great ship of three levels; the bottom level for the animals and beasts, the middle level for him and the humans who believed with him, and the top level for the birds. Then Allah the Exalted revealed to Nuh, peace be upon him: "When you see the water gushing forth from the oven, know that this is the sign of the beginning of the punishment. So gather My servants, and hasten to board the ship, and take from every pair of creatures two, and take your family with you." When Nuh, peace be upon him, saw that sign, and saw the water from the oven, he called his family and those who believed with him and ordered them to head directly to the ship. No sooner had he reached it than he found the birds and beasts waiting for him at its entrance. He said to them: "Board it; in the name of Allah is its course and its anchorage." So they all boarded the ship, while the punishment descended upon his people. Allah the Exalted commanded the sky, and it opened its gates with water pouring down upon them like buckets. And Allah caused the water to gush from the earth as springs emerging from every place. So the water of the sky met the water of the earth for a matter already ordained. The water covered the entire earth, and the people drowned. The ship sailed under the protection and care of Allah. The waves began to rise like mountains in a majestic scene that strikes terror into hearts and bewilders the mind. In the midst of that, Nuh, peace be upon him, saw his son, who had not believed in him and had refused to board the ship with him. He said to him: "O my son, do not be with the disbelievers." The mercy of a father for his son in the final moments, anxious for him to be saved from disbelief before being saved from drowning. But that son was denied success, so he refused to board the ship and said: "I will take refuge on a mountain that will protect me from the water." The righteous prophet replied: "There is no protector today from the decree of Allah except those upon whom He has mercy." The dialogue ended between the father and his son with a surging wave that took that disbelieving son far away from his father. Allah the Exalted said: "And it was revealed to Nuh that none will believe from your people “And it was inspired in Noah, (saying): No-one of thy folk will believe save him who hath believed already. Be not distressed because of what they do.” (11:36) that none will believe from your people “And it was inspired in Noah, (saying): No-one of thy folk will believe save him who hath believed already. Be not distressed because of what they do.” (11:36) so do not be distressed by what they used to do. And construct the ship under Our eyes and Our revelation, and do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned." And he was constructing the ship, and whenever A group of his people passed by him, and they mocked him. He said, "If you mock us, then we shall mock you, just as you mock. You shall soon come to know who will receive a punishment that will humiliate him and upon whom a lasting punishment will descend." Then, when Our command came, and the earth gushed forth with water, We said, "Load into it of every creature two mates, and your family, except for those against whom the decree has already been passed, and those who believe." But none believed with him except a few. And he said, "Embark therein, in the name of Allah, its course and its anchorage. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving, Merciful." And it sailed with them amidst waves like mountains, and Nuh called out to his son, and Nuh called out to his son, who was in a secluded place, "O my son, come aboard with us, O my son, come aboard with us, and do not be with the disbelievers." He said, "I will take refuge on a mountain that will protect me from the water." He said, "There is no protector today from the decree of Allah, except for those upon whom He has mercy." Then the waves came between them, and he was among the drowned. The divine command was fulfilled, the rain from the sky ceased, and the earth swallowed what was upon it of water. The ship settled upon the mountain that Allah intended for it to settle upon, which is Mount Judi. And it was proclaimed that destruction had come to the wrongdoing people. The ship came to rest, but the heart of Nuh, the compassionate father, did not find rest. He raised his hands to the sky and said, "O my Lord, You promised to save me and my family, and my drowned son is of my family, and You, my Lord, are the wisest of judges." So Allah said to him, "O Nuh, “He said: O Noah! Lo! he is not of thy household; lo! he is of evil conduct, so ask not of Me that whereof thou hast no knowledge. I admonish thee lest thou be among the ignorant.” (11:46) your family are only those who followed you, and this son has acted in a way that is not righteous. So do not ask of Me that which you have no knowledge of. I warn you against being among the ignorant." So Nuh, peace be upon him, apologized and sought forgiveness from his Lord, and refrained from asking his Lord for that which he had no knowledge of. The Almighty said: "And it was said, 'O earth, swallow your water,' and 'O sky, cease,' and the water subsided, and the water subsided, and the matter was concluded. It settled upon Judi, and it was said, 'Away with the wrongdoing people.'" And Nuh called to his Lord, saying, "My Lord, “And Noah cried unto his Lord and said: My Lord! Lo! my son is of my household! Surely Thy promise is the truth and Thou are the Most Just of Judges.” (11:45) saying, "My Lord, “And Noah cried unto his Lord and said: My Lord! Lo! my son is of my household! Surely Thy promise is the truth and Thou are the Most Just of Judges.” (11:45) Your promise is the truth, and You are the wisest of judges." He said, "O Nuh, he is not of your family; he is a deed not righteous. So do not ask Me for that which you have no knowledge of. I advise you not to be among the ignorant." He said, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking You for that which I have no knowledge of. And unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me, I will be among the losers." It was said, "O Nuh, disembark in peace from Us and blessings upon you, and blessings upon you and upon the nations from those who are with you. We will grant them enjoyment, then there shall touch them from Us a painful punishment." Nuh had another wife besides the one who boarded the ship with him. That wife was a traitor to her husband in faith, as she remained upon the religion of her disbelieving people. So she did not board with her husband in the ship of salvation, and she perished as well with those who perished. Thus the punishment descended, and Allah drowned everyone on earth, and none of them were saved. If Allah had had mercy on any of them, He would have had mercy on that woman who, when she saw the sky raining and the earth gushing with water, climbed with her infant son to one of the mountains. The water reached her, so she climbed higher; the water reached her, and she climbed until she reached the peak of the mountain. The water covered her until it reached her neck. She lifted her child upward, hoping he might be saved, but the water covered them both just as it covered the others. Nuh, peace be upon him, lived on earth, and humanity multiplied from his offspring. The lineage of those who were with him on the ship ceased, and thus Nuh became the second father of humanity after Adam, peace be upon them both. The Sudanese, the Berbers, and the Copts are from the lineage of Ham ibn Nuh. The Arabs, the Persians, and the Romans are from the lineage of Sam ibn Nuh. The Turks, the Slavs, and Gog and Magog are from the lineage of Yafith, Yafith ibn Nuh. Nuh, peace be upon him, remained after he left the ship for a time on earth, until his appointed time came. It is said that Nuh, After this long life, he was asked, and it was said to him: "How did you find this world?" He replied: "I found it like a house that has two doors; I entered through one of them, and I exited through the other." This is how he viewed the journey of his life over a thousand years, or more. Honorable brothers, Allah the Exalted mentioned the name of Nuh, peace be upon him, in the Noble Qur'an forty-three times, and his story appears in more than one surah. This is only so that we may draw lessons, benefits, and admonitions from it, among which are that the punishment of Allah for the disobedient may sometimes occur in this world, along with what may occur in the Hereafter, for those who denied the messengers and deviated from the obedience of Allah the Exalted. All the messengers, from Nuh, peace be upon him, to Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, are in agreement in their call to pure monotheism. The caller to Allah must be diligent, just as Nuh, peace be upon him, used to be, for he would call them by night and by day, and in private and in public. He exercised patience, and this is the greatest form of patience. Seeking the help of Allah is always necessary in all matters, and mentioning the name of Allah the Exalted upon them, just as Nuh, peace be upon him, said, "And he said, 'Embark therein; in the name of Allah is its course and its anchorage.'" Fifth: Brotherhood and bonds in the religion are greater than all other ties, even those of lineage. Sixth: Because of the patience of Nuh, peace be upon him, in calling his people, and his endurance of the hardships of the call, he became one of the messengers of strong resolve. Seventh: The ultimate outcome is always for the righteous. The punishment of Allah the Exalted is for the disbelieving, wrongdoing people. This discussion has a remainder, if Allah wills. And Allah knows best. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family, and all of his companions. You have been with the stories of the prophets, a narrative that guides the believer.
