00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:05.200
Forty hadiths on the virtue of charity.

00:00:05.200 --> 00:00:09.339
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him,

00:00:09.339 --> 00:00:13.839
that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

00:00:13.839 --> 00:00:16.339
"A man was walking along

00:00:16.339 --> 00:00:18.839
when he became intensely thirsty.

00:00:18.839 --> 00:00:20.539
He descended into a well

00:00:20.539 --> 00:00:22.239
and drank from it.

00:00:22.239 --> 00:00:23.839
Then he emerged,

00:00:23.839 --> 00:00:26.440
and there he saw a dog panting,

00:00:26.440 --> 00:00:29.239
eating the moist earth out of thirst.

00:00:29.239 --> 00:00:30.640
He said to himself,

00:00:30.640 --> 00:00:34.439
'This creature has reached the same state of thirst that I reached.'

00:00:34.439 --> 00:00:36.240
So he filled his leather sock [with water],

00:00:36.240 --> 00:00:38.439
held it in his mouth,

00:00:38.439 --> 00:00:39.840
climbed back up,

00:00:39.840 --> 00:00:41.840
and gave the dog a drink.

00:00:41.840 --> 00:00:45.270
Allah appreciated his deed and forgave him."

00:00:45.270 --> 00:00:46.369
They asked,

00:00:46.369 --> 00:00:48.070
"O Messenger of Allah,

00:00:48.070 --> 00:00:51.270
is there a reward for us in [caring for] animals?"

00:00:51.270 --> 00:00:52.469
He replied,

00:00:52.469 --> 00:00:56.350
"In every living being with a moist liver, there is a reward."

00:00:56.350 --> 00:00:59.149
Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
