The Garden of Guidance
Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, says:
"You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love."
“Ye will not attain unto piety until ye spend of that which ye love. And whatsoever ye spend, Allah is Aware thereof.” (3:92)
It is narrated from Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
When the verse "You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love" was revealed,
Abu Talhah stood up and said:
"O Messenger of Allah, Allah says:
'You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love,'
and the most beloved of my wealth to me is Bayruha.
It is a charity for the sake of Allah;
I hope for its righteousness and its reward with Allah.
So, place it, O Messenger of Allah, where Allah shows you."
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
"Excellent! That is profitable wealth.
I have heard what you said,
and I suggest that you distribute it among your relatives."
Abu Talhah replied:
"I will do so, O Messenger of Allah."
So, Abu Talhah distributed it among his relatives and his cousins.
Agreed upon.
A benefit:
It may be your wealth or your food,
or your sleep or your play,
or your sitting among your friends,
or your watching of matches or television series—
whatever is most beloved to you.
Spend a portion of the time you devote to your interests and pleasures
in an act of obedience that Allah loves.
