Manifestations of glorifying God’s Most Beautiful Names and His Sublime Attributes
The servant must combine his knowledge and study of God’s names and attributes with his glorification of them
This glorification has many aspects
First, he should not swear, if he must swear, except by God and His names and attributes
Because in swearing an oath there is glorification of the one sworn by, and glory belongs to God alone
It is also glorified in his swearing by God and His names and attributes
He should not swear on it to say something false or to commit a sin
And he must be righteous with his oath, unless his oath is a sin
Then veneration and righteousness lie in breaking his oath and atonement for it
It is better for the servant to avoid swearing, even if it is as sincere as possible
So that his oath would not be an excuse for him to lie
Or what he cannot fulfill
God Almighty said
As should the one who swears by God Almighty or one of His attributes, Glory be to Him
To accept and believe the swearer
Because this is part of glorifying God Almighty and His names and attributes
Unless the swearer has been known to lie and commit immorality
Or the person sworn to is certain that the swearer is lying or making a mistake
In that case, there is no blame on the sworn person for not believing the swearer
It does not fall under the threat contained in the hadith, which summarizes the statement on the issue of swearing an oath
This is what he, may God bless him and grant him peace, said
Do not swear by your fathers
Whoever swears by God, let him be true
And whoever swears to him by God, let him be satisfied
Whoever is not satisfied with God is not of God
Narrated by Ibn Majah
It was classed as hasan by Al-Albani in Sahih al-Targheeb
