In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
A Summary
of the Prophetic biography.
The Companions’ complaint to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
When the suffering of the Muslims became prolonged,
Khabbab Ibn al-Aratt, may Allah be pleased with him, went to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
asking him to supplicate for the removal of their affliction.
Imam al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih
on the authority of Khabbab Ibn al-Aratt, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
"We complained to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
while he was reclining on a cloak of his in the shade of the Ka'bah.
We said to him, 'Will you not seek victory for us?'
'Will you not supplicate to Allah for us?'
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, replied:
'Among those before you, a man would have a pit dug for him in the earth,
and he would be placed inside it.
Then a saw would be brought,
placed upon his head, and he would be sawn in two,
yet that would not turn him away from his religion.
Others would be combed with iron combs, tearing away the flesh from the bone or sinew,
yet that would not turn them away from their religion.
By Allah, this matter will surely be perfected,
until a traveler journeys from San'a to Hadramaut,
fearing none but Allah,
or the wolf for his sheep.
But you are impatient.'"
Al-Hafiz said in al-Fath:
"Khabbab’s request for the Prophet, peace be upon him, to supplicate against the disbelievers
indicates that they had been subjected to unjust and aggressive harm."
Shaykh Muhammad al-Ghazali said:
"The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
did not gather his Companions for the sake of immediate or future spoils.
Rather, he removed the veil from their eyes,
so they perceived the truth from which they had been barred for ages.
He wiped the rust from their hearts,
so they recognized the certainty for which they were naturally created,
and of which the Age of Ignorance had deprived them.
He connected humanity to their Lord,
binding them to their noble lineage
and their firm bond.
Before that, they had been bewildered and exhausted.
He balanced for the people the choice between eternity and transience,
so they preferred the Hereafter over this fleeting world.
He gave them the choice between contemptible idols and a Great God,
so they despised the carved idols,
and turned toward the One who originated the heavens and the earth.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
instilled elements of confidence in the hearts of his men,
and poured upon them what Allah had poured into his own heart
of vast hope for the victory of Islam,
the spread of its principles,
and the collapse of the tyrants' authority before its triumphant vanguard
in the East and the West."
