00:00:34.829 --> 00:00:36.829 She then set me free. 00:00:36.829 --> 00:00:38.829 However, her husband was impressed by me. 00:00:38.829 --> 00:00:40.829 So he adopted me as his son. 00:00:40.829 --> 00:00:43.829 Then we both embraced Islam together. 00:00:43.829 --> 00:00:47.060 When Islam abolished adoption, 00:00:47.060 --> 00:00:50.060 I began to be called his freedman. 00:00:50.060 --> beautiful voice. 00:01:19.939 --> 00:01:23.939 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, passed by me. 00:01:23.939 --> 00:01:25.939 She heard my recitation. 00:01:25.939 --> 00:01:28.939 She could not help but sit and listen to me. 00:01:28.939 --> 00:01:33.939 Until she was late to reach the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. 00:01:34.939 --> 00:01:36.980 When she came to him, 00:01:36.980 --> 00:01:39.980 He asked her the reason for her delay. 00:01:39.980 --> 00:01:43.980 She said, "There is a man in the mosque, 00:01:43.980 --> 00:01:47.980 who has the most beautiful voice in reciting the Qur'an that I have ever heard." 00:01:47.980 --> 00:01:52.010 So the Prophet, peace be upon him, took his cloak, 00:01:52.010 --> 00:01:55.010 and went out to listen to my recitation. 00:01:55.010 --> 00:01:57.010 He recognized me and said, 00:01:57.010 --> 00:02:02.010 "Praise be to Allah who has placed someone like you in my Ummah." 00:02:02.010 --> 00:02:07.459 One day, while advising his Companions, he, peace be upon him, said: 00:02:07.459 --> 00:02:10.460 "Take the Qur'an from four: 00:02:10.460 --> 00:02:13.460 From me, from Ibn Mas'ud, 00:02:13.460 --> 00:02:15.460 from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, 00:02:15.460 --> 00:02:17.460 and from Mu'adh ibn Jabal." 00:02:17.460 --> 00:02:22.460 This was because of our distinction over others in reciting the Qur'an, 00:02:22.460 --> 00:02:24.460 and our devotion to it. 00:02:24.460 --> 00:02:28.379 Even though I am a non-Arab Persian, 00:02:28.379 --> 00:02:31.379 the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, 00:02:31.379 --> 00:02:36.379 valued me and gave me precedence over others. 00:02:36.379 --> 00:02:40.479 For the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said, 00:02:40.479 --> 00:02:43.479 when he was on his deathbed: 00:02:43.479 --> 00:02:45.479 "If so-and-so were alive, 00:02:45.479 --> 00:02:47.479 I would have appointed him as the Caliph." 00:02:47.479 --> 00:02:50.479 Meaning me by that. 00:02:50.479 --> 00:02:54.500 I participated with the Prophet, peace be upon him, 00:02:54.500 --> 00:02:56.500 in all the military expeditions. 00:02:57.500 --> 00:03:02.500 Then I participated with the Muslims in fighting the apostates. 00:03:02.500 --> 00:03:04.500 In the Battle of Yamamah, 00:03:04.500 --> 00:03:08.500 when the Muslims were initially overwhelmed, 00:03:08.500 --> 00:03:13.500 and the banner of the Muhajirun fell from Zayd ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, 00:03:13.500 --> 00:03:16.500 I stepped forward and took the banner. 00:03:16.500 --> 00:03:18.500 The people said to me, 00:03:18.500 --> 00:03:21.500 "We fear that the enemy might reach the Muslims through you." 00:03:21.500 --> 00:03:22.500 I replied, 00:03:22.500 --> 00:03:25.500 "I would be a wretched bearer of the Qur'an if 00:03:25.500 --> 00:03:28.500 the Muslims were reached through me." 00:03:28.500 --> 00:03:34.500 "That is not how we used to act with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him." 00:03:34.500 --> 00:03:37.539 Then I dug a hole in the ground, 00:03:37.539 --> 00:03:40.539 and stood in it with the banner. 00:03:40.539 --> 00:03:43.539 I kept fighting and fighting, 00:03:43.539 --> 00:03:46.539 and blows came at me from every direction, 00:03:46.539 --> 00:03:49.539 until wounds overwhelmed me. 00:03:49.539 --> 00:03:51.539 I fell to the ground, 00:03:51.539 --> 00:03:53.539 covered in blood. 00:03:53.539 --> 00:03:56.729 The battle ended with the victory of the Muslims. 00:03:56.729 --> 00:04:00.729 People came to check on the fallen,
