On the authority of al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) commanded

Which was a natural water basin at Mount Uhud—

And brought him water in his leather shield,

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) intended to drink from it,

But he detected an unpleasant smell in it and so disliked it,

Using it instead to wash the blood from his face,

While saying (peace be upon him):

"Intense is the wrath of Allah upon whoever caused the face of the Messenger of Allah to bleed."

On the authority of Sahl ibn Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him),

That he was asked about the wound of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on the day of Uhud,

But when Fatimah saw that the water only increased the bleeding,

She took a piece of matting,

And then applied it to the wound,

The Muslims Inspecting and Burying Their Martyrs.

Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and his Companions went down to inspect their slain,

And the Messenger of Allah commanded that the martyrs of Uhud be gathered

That two or three men be buried together in a single grave,

The reason being

'We have suffered wounds and great exhaustion,

'Dig, make the graves spacious,

And place two or three in a single grave.'

It was asked, 'Which of them should be placed first?'

Whenever one of them was pointed out to him,

Allah placed their souls inside green birds

That drink from the rivers of Paradise,

Eat from its fruits,

And shelter in golden lamps suspended in the shade of the Throne.

When they experienced the delight of their food, drink, and resting places,

They said: Who will convey to our brothers on our behalf

That we are alive in Paradise, being sustained,

So that they do not renounce jihad

Nor falter in the face of battle?

Thereupon Allah Almighty said:

I shall convey it to them on your behalf.'

He said: 'So Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He, revealed:'"

“Think not of those, who are slain in the way of Allah, as dead. Nay, they are living. With their Lord they have provision.” (3:169)

We ask Allah, the Generous, the Bestower of all grace,

To keep us firm upon faith.
