A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the Companions from the Ansar.
I am one of the famous archers and renowned brave warriors.
I witnessed all the battles with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
One day, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said to me:
"Your voice in the army is better than a thousand horsemen."
I stood firm on the day of Uhud when the people fled.
I was shooting arrows in front of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, defending him.
I was a man who pulled the bowstring with great strength.
I broke two or three bows that day.
A man would pass by carrying a quiver of arrows,
and the Prophet, peace be upon him, would command him to pour them out for me.
I would shield the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, from behind me,
and I would shoot at the people with my arrows.
Whenever I shot an arrow, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, would raise his head,
looking to see where my arrow landed.
I would say, "O Prophet of Allah,
may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, do not raise your head,
lest an arrow from the enemy's arrows strike you.
My throat is a shield for your throat,
my soul is a ransom for your soul,
and my face is a shield for your dignity."
On the day of Hunayn, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:
"Whoever kills an enemy combatant is entitled to his spoils."
I killed twenty men that day,
and I took their spoils.
When the words of Allah the Exalted were revealed:
"You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love,"
I said, "O Messenger of Allah,
I possess more wealth in Medina in the form of date palms than any of the Ansar,
and the most beloved of my wealth to me is Bayruha.
It is a charity for the sake of Allah.
So place it, O Messenger of Allah, where Allah shows you."
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
"Well done, well done! That is profitable wealth.
That is profitable wealth.
I suggest you distribute it among your relatives."
During the Farewell Pilgrimage, the Prophet, peace be upon him, shaved his head,
and he distributed the hair from the right side among his Companions,
giving them one or two hairs each.
He gave me all the hair from the left side.
When the Muslims resolved to launch a naval expedition
during the caliphate of Uthman Ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him,
I began preparing myself to go out with them.
My sons said to me,
"May Allah have mercy on you,
you have become a very old man,
and you have already fought alongside the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
and alongside Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both.
Why not stay behind and let us fight on your behalf?"
I replied, "Allah the Exalted says:
'Go forth, whether light or heavy,'
and He has called us all to go forth, both the old and the young."
So I insisted on going out for jihad.
While we were at sea,
death overtook me while I was on the ship.
They could not find an island to bury me on
until seven days later.
During this period,
I remained as I was, without anything changing about me.
