Allah willed for him to pray. 00:00:24.350 --> 00:00:27.350 Then, when the last part of the night arrived, 00:00:27.350 --> 00:00:29.350 He would wake his family. 00:00:29.350 --> 00:00:30.850 He would say to them, 00:00:30.850 --> 00:00:32.850 "Prayer, prayer!" 00:00:32.850 --> 00:00:34.850 And he would recite this verse: 00:00:34.850 --> 00:00:36.939 "And enjoin prayer upon your family 00:01:24.420 "I was a young, unmarried man, 00:01:24.420 --> 00:01:30.420 and I used to sleep in the mosque during the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him). 00:01:30.420 --> 00:01:34.420 I saw in a dream as if two angels took me 00:01:34.420 --> 00:01:36.420 and brought me to the Fire. 00:01:36.420 --> 00:01:39.420 It was built like a well, 00:01:39.420 --> 00:01:42.420 and it had two horns. 00:01:42.420 --> 00:01:45.420 I saw in it people I recognized. 00:01:45.420 --> 00:01:47.420 I began to say, 00:01:47.420 --> 00:01:49.420 'I seek refuge in Allah from the Fire, 00:01:49.420 --> 00:01:52.420 I seek refuge in Allah from the Fire.' 00:01:52.420 --> 00:01:54.420 Then another angel met them, 00:01:54.420 --> 00:01:56.420 and he said to me, 00:01:56.420 --> 00:01:57.420 'Do not be 00:03:03.060 --> 00:03:06.060 and there was something like a canopy above my head 00:03:06.060 --> 00:03:08.060 containing things like lamps. 00:03:08.060 --> 00:03:10.060 It ascended into the air 00:03:10.060 --> 00:03:12.060 until I could no longer see it." 00:03:12.060 --> 00:03:17.099 I went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the morning 00:03:17.099 --> 00:03:19.099 and said, "O Messenger of Allah, 00:03:19.099 --> 00:03:24.099 while I was reciting in my enclosure in the middle of the night, 00:03:24.099 --> 00:03:26.099 my horse shied." 00:03:26.099 --> 00:03:30.129 The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, 00:03:30.129 --> 00:03:32.129 "Recite, O Ibn Hudayr, 00:03:32.129 --> 00:03:34.129 recite, O Ibn Hudayr." 00:03:34.129 --> 00:03:36.129 "Do you know what that was?" 00:03:36.129 --> 00:03:38.129 I said, "No." 00:03:38.129 --> 00:03:40.129 He said, 00:03:40.129 --> 00:03:42.129 "Those were the angels listening to you. 00:03:42.129 --> 00:03:44.129 Had you 00:03:52.419 And regarding Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he said, 00:03:52.419 --> 00:03:55.419 "The virtue of the night prayer over the prayer 00:03:55.419 --> 00:03:57.419 of 00:04:48.220 --> 00:04:50.220 a radiance for the eyes, 00:04:50.220 --> 00:04:52.220 and strength for the limbs.' 00:04:52.220 --> 00:04:56.310 When a man stands at night in vigil, 00:04:56.310 --> 00:04:58.310 he wakes up joyful, 00:04:58.310 --> 00:05:01.310 finding joy in his heart. 00:05:01.310 --> 00:05:05.310 But if his eyes overcome him and he sleeps through his portion, 00:05:05.310 --> 00:05:08.310 he wakes up sad and broken-hearted, 00:05:08.310 --> 00:05:10.310 as if he has lost something, 00:05:10.310 --> 00:05:14.310 and indeed, he has lost the most beneficial of things for him." 00:05:14.310 --> 00:05:17.600 And regarding Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him), he said, 00:05:17.600 --> 00:05:19.600 "It used to be said: 00:05:20.600 --> 00:05:23.600 'Few who stay awake at night are hypocrites.'" 00:05:23.600 --> 00:05:27.730 And regarding Sufyan al-Thawri (may Allah have mercy on him), he said, 00:05:27.730 --> 00:05:31.819 "I caught up with the early generations, and they were those who stood in prayer at night." 00:05:31.819 --> 00:05:35.819 'Ata' (may Allah have mercy on him), after he grew old and weak, 00:05:35.819 --> 00:05:37.819 would stand for prayer
