Pause and learn about the Companions, the scholars, and the prominent figures. A new "Who Am I?" challenge. I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him, from the Quraysh tribe. I was a champion among their champions and one of their most formidable men. I was powerfully built and known for my strength and intensity. No one could throw me, and I was never thrown by anyone. No one had ever forced my back to the ground. My conversion to Islam was delayed, so I embraced it on the day of the Conquest of Makkah. I met the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, one day while he was alone. It was in one of the mountain passes of Makkah, before the Hijrah. He said to me, "Will you not fear Allah and accept what I invite you to?" I replied, "If I knew that what you say is the truth, I would follow you." He said, "What if I were to throw you down; would you then know that what I say is the truth?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Stand up, then, so I may wrestle you." I stood up to face him, and we wrestled; he threw me down and pinned me. I became unable to move or control myself. Then I said, "Try again, O Muhammad," so he did, and he threw me a second time. I began looking around to see if anyone was watching me. He asked, "What is the matter?" I said, "I am afraid some shepherds might see me and mock me." Yet among my own people, I was one of the strongest. He asked, "Would you like a third round of wrestling?" I said, "Yes," so we wrestled, and he threw me again. I sat there, dejected and sad, and he asked, "What is the matter?" I said, "I used to think I was the strongest of the Quraysh." The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "If you fear Allah and follow my command, I will show you something more amazing than that." I asked, "What is it?" He said, "I will call this tree that you see, and it will come to me." I said, "Then call it." He called it, and it approached until it stood before him. I said, "Tell it to return to its place." He said to it, "Return to your place." It returned to its place. I went to my people and said, "O Banu Abd Manaf, you have been bewitched by your companion, the greatest sorcerer on earth. By Allah, I have never seen anyone more skilled in sorcery than him." I had divorced my wife, Suhaymah al-Muzaniyyah, three times. I regretted it and came to the Prophet, peace be upon him. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have divorced my wife irrevocably." He asked, "What did you intend by that?" I said, "One [pronouncement]." He said, "By Allah?" I said, "By Allah." The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "It is as you intended, so take her back." And I heard the Prophet, peace be upon him, say, "Every religion has a character, and the character of this religion is modesty." So, who am I? The answer is Rukanah Ibn Abd Yazid, may Allah be pleased with him. Pause. Pause and learn about the Companions, the scholars, and the prominent figures. A new "Who Am I?" challenge. I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and the leader of the Aws from the Ansar. I am one of the nobles of the people of Madinah. I embraced Islam when I was thirty-one years old, after hearing the Qur'an from Mus'ab Ibn Umayr, may Allah be pleased with him, the messenger of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, to us in Madinah. With my conversion, my entire tribe, the Banu Abd al-Ashhal, embraced Islam in a single day. Then, I and Usayd Ibn Hudayr, may Allah be pleased with him, took charge of breaking the idols of the Banu Abd al-Ashhal. I made my home a headquarters for Mus'ab Ibn Umayr and As'ad Ibn Zurarah, may Allah be pleased with them both, where they invited the people of Yathrib to Islam. I participated with the Prophet, peace be upon him, in the Battle of Badr, when he went out to intercept the caravan of the Quraysh, not intending to fight. But when the caravan escaped us and the Quraysh came out to fight us, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "Advise me, O people." Abu Bakr, Umar, and al-Miqdad, may Allah be pleased with them, spoke from the Muhajirun, and they spoke well, so the Prophet, peace be upon him, praised them and prayed for them. Then he said again, "Advise me, O people." I said, "By Allah, it is as if you are addressing us, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Indeed." I said, "We have believed in you and testified to your truth, and we have borne witness that what you have brought is the truth. We have given you our pledges and covenants of hearing and obedience. So proceed, O Messenger of Allah, to what you intend, for we are with you. By the One who sent you with the truth, if you were to lead us into this sea and plunge into it, we would plunge into it with you; not a single man among us would stay behind. We do not fear that you should lead us to face our enemy tomorrow. We are steadfast in war and truthful in the encounter. Perhaps Allah will show you through us what will gladden your eyes. So lead us forward with the blessing of Allah." The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was pleased with my words, and it invigorated him. Then he said, "March on and rejoice, for Allah the Almighty has promised me one of the two groups. By Allah, it is as if I am now looking at the places where the enemy will fall." Before the Battle of Badr began, I suggested to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, that we build a shelter for him from which he could direct the battle. We would prepare mounts for him, so that if the Muslims were defeated, he, peace be upon him, could return to Madinah, for there are people there who love him as we love him, who would defend him and support him. The Prophet, peace be upon him, and the Companions approved of this. I was the guard of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, at the shelter. In the Battle of the Trench, an arrow struck me and severed my artery, and that was the cause of my death. When the Muslims carried my bier and walked in my funeral procession, they noticed its lightness, and the hypocrites said, "How light his bier is! That is only because of his judgment regarding the Banu Qurayzah." This reached the Prophet, peace be upon him, and he said, "The angels were carrying it." The Prophet, peace be upon him, walked in the Baqi' cemetery on his tiptoes due to the sheer number of angels who had descended to follow my funeral. As the Companions were digging my grave, they smelled the scent of musk until they reached the niche. The Prophet, peace be upon him, informed us that the Throne of the Most Merciful shook at my death out of love and joy. People were amazed by a silk garment that was gifted to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and they began to touch it. The Prophet, peace be upon him, told them, "My handkerchiefs in Paradise are better than this garment." So, who am I? The answer is Sa'd Ibn Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him. Pause and learn about the Companions, the scholars, and the prominent figures. A new "Who Am I?" challenge. I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him, from the Ansar. I am one of those known for sound judgment and counsel, as well as one of those known for strength and courage. I witnessed Badr and all the battles with the Prophet, peace be upon him. He, peace be upon him, would often accept my advice in many situations, to the point that I became known for my strategic insight. I witnessed the Battle of Badr when I was thirty-three years old. When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, arrived at the battlefield, I came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, do you see this location? Is it a place that Allah has commanded you to occupy, so that we may not advance or retreat from it, or is it a matter of opinion, war, and strategy?" He said, "Rather, it is a matter of opinion, war, and strategy." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, then this is not the right place. Move the people until we reach the water source closest to the enemy, and we will encamp there. Then we will fill in the wells behind it, and build a basin over it, which we will fill with water. Then we will fight the enemy, so we will drink, and they will not drink." The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, "You have suggested a sound strategy." So he, peace be upon him, moved, along with those who were with him, and marched until he reached the water source closest to the enemy, and he encamped there. Then he ordered the wells to be filled in, and a basin was built over the well where he had encamped, and it was filled with water, and they began to fight. In the Battle of Uhud, after the people were scattered, I was one of the seven Ansar who stood firm around the Prophet, peace be upon him, along with seven others of our brothers from the Muhajirun. We pledged to the Prophet, peace be upon him, to fight to the death, and we defended him, and drove back the polytheists, until Allah protected His Prophet, peace be upon him. So, who am I? The answer is: Al-Hubab Ibn al-Mundhir, may Allah be pleased with him. Pause. And learn about the Companions, the scholars, and the prominent figures. A new "Who Am I?" challenge. I am one of the female Companions from the Ansar, from the Banu al-Najjar. I was among the first to embrace Islam. I am the maternal aunt of the Prophet, peace be upon him, through breastfeeding. My husband is the noble Companion, Ubadah Ibn al-Samit, may Allah be pleased with him. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, would visit us frequently. He entered our house one time, when there was no one there but me, my sister Umm Sulaym, and her son Anas. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "Stand up, so I may lead you in prayer." He prayed with us at a time that was not a prescribed prayer time. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, visited me one day, and I fed him and began to groom his hair. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, fell asleep, then he woke up laughing. I said, "What makes you laugh, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Some people of my Ummah were shown to me as warriors in the cause of Allah, riding across the expanse of this sea, like kings upon thrones." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah that He makes me one of them." The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, prayed for me. Then he laid his head down and slept, then he woke up laughing. I said, "What makes you laugh, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Some people of my Ummah were shown to me as warriors in the cause of Allah, riding across the expanse of this sea, like kings upon thrones." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah that He makes me one of them." He said, "You are among the first." So I rode the sea as a warrior in the cause of Allah, with my husband, Ubadah Ibn al-Samit, may Allah be pleased with him. When we reached the island of Cyprus, I disembarked from the ship, and they brought me an animal to ride. The beast threw me, and I fell. My neck broke, and my soul departed. I was buried where I fell. This was during the emirate of Mu'awiyah, and the caliphate of 'Uthman, may Allah be pleased with them both. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, had said: "The first army from my Ummah to sail the sea have made it incumbent upon themselves," meaning they have performed an act that makes it incumbent upon them to enter Paradise. So, who am I? The answer is Umm Haram bint Milhan al-Ansariyyah, may Allah be pleased with her. Pause, and learn about the Companions, the scholars, and the luminaries. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him. I was an ally to the people of Makkah. When I heard of Islam, I was among the first to embrace it, as I was the sixth of only six people on the face of the earth who were Muslim besides us. I was known as Ibn Umm 'Abd. I narrated many hadiths from the Prophet, peace be upon him. I was the first to recite the Qur'an aloud in Makkah after the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. I was persecuted for the sake of Allah because of that. I performed both migrations, prayed toward both qiblas, and witnessed all the battles with the Prophet, peace be upon him. I served the Prophet, peace be upon him, and kept his company extensively, becoming his confidant, to the point that some of the Companions thought I was one of his own family. I took directly from the mouth of the Prophet, peace be upon him, more than seventy surahs, and no one disputed me regarding them. I was eager to learn the Qur'an and to teach it. By Allah, besides Whom there is no god, there is no verse in the Book of Allah but that I know where it was revealed and regarding what it was revealed. If I knew of anyone more knowledgeable than me in the Book of Allah whom camels could reach, I would have traveled to him. By Allah, the Companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him, knew that I am one of the most knowledgeable among them regarding the Book of Allah, though I am not the best of them. "Take the Qur'an from four: from Ibn Umm 'Abd," and he began with Ubayy, Mu'adh ibn Jabal, Ubayy ibn Ka'b, and Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said to me one day, "Recite to me." I said, "Shall I recite to you, while to you it was revealed?" He said, "Yes, for I love to hear it from others." So I recited Surah an-Nisa' to him, until I reached the saying of the Almighty: “But how (will it be with them) when We bring of every people a witness, and We bring thee (O Muhammad) a witness against these?” (4:41) "...a witness against this Ummah." “But how (will it be with them) when We bring of every people a witness, and We bring thee (O Muhammad) a witness against these?” (4:41) "...a witness." He said to me, "That is enough for you." I turned to him, and his eyes were shedding tears. The Prophet, peace be upon him, entered the mosque one night, with Abu Bakr and 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, with him. He found me praying and supplicating, and he, peace be upon him, said, "Ask, and you shall be given; ask, and you shall be given." Then he said, "Whoever wishes to recite the Qur'an fresh as it was revealed, let him recite it as Ibn Umm 'Abd does." When morning came, Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, came to me to give me the good news, and said to me, "What did you ask Allah for last night?" I said, "I asked Allah for faith that does not falter, bliss that does not end, and the company of Muhammad in the highest eternal Paradise." Then 'Umar came to give me the good news, but found that Abu Bakr had preceded him. One day I was with the Prophet, peace be upon him, and his Companions, and I climbed a tree to gather a siwak from the Arak tree. The wind began to expose my legs, and the people laughed at me. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "What are you laughing at?" "At the thinness of his legs." He, peace be upon him, said, "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, they are heavier on the scale than Mount Uhud." So, who am I? The answer is 'Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him. Pause and learn about the Companions, the scholars, and the luminaries. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the Companions, and one of the leaders of the Ansar. I was a leader of the Aws of Yathrib before Islam, and one of those of sound judgment among them. I was one of the great nobles of the Arabs in the Jahiliyyah, and one of their fiercest warriors. I possessed a clear mind and a strong personality. I was one of the twelve leaders at the night of al-'Aqabah. I regretted missing the Battle of Badr. When the Prophet, peace be upon him, returned from the battle, I said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, praise be to Allah who granted you victory and gladdened your eyes. By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, my absence from Badr was not because I thought it was an enemy force; rather, I thought it was the caravan. Had I known it was an enemy, I would not have stayed behind." The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to me, "You have spoken the truth." Then I witnessed all the battles with him, and I sustained seven wounds on the day of Uhud. When Mus'ab ibn 'Umayr, may Allah be pleased with him, came to Madinah, [the leaders said,] "Go to this young man from Makkah and forbid him from approaching our gatherings." I took my spear and went to him, and said to him, "If you have any regard for your own life, stay away from us." Mus'ab said to me, "Will you not sit and listen? If it is good, you may accept it; and if it is otherwise, I will leave you." I said to him, "You have spoken fairly." I planted my spear and sat down. He recited the Qur'an to me, and no sooner had his words touched my ears than my heart expanded, the expression on my face changed, and I entered into Islam. Ever since I embraced Islam, my heart has been attached to the love of the Qur'an. The Prophet, peace be upon him, heard me recite one day, and said, "You have been given a flute from the flutes of the family of David." One night I was reciting Surah al-Baqarah while my horse was tied in the courtyard of the house, and beside it my son was sleeping. The horse became agitated, so I stopped, and the horse calmed down. I resumed the recitation, then I looked up at the sky, and there was something like a cloud in the middle of which were lamps, rising into the sky until it disappeared from my sight. When morning came, I told the Prophet, peace be upon him, and he said, "Those were the angels who descended; those were the angels who descended to listen to your recitation. Had you continued, the people would have seen them in the morning, and they would not have been hidden from them." I used to strive to serve the needy among the Muslims. I once came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and mentioned to him the needs of a family, most of whom were women. He said to me... Then food was brought to us, and I reminded him of them. Food was brought to him, and I reminded him, so he gave them a generous portion. I said to him, "May Allah reward you, O Prophet of Allah, with the best of rewards." He said, "And you, O people of the Ansar, may Allah reward you with the best of rewards, for you are, as far as I know, chaste and patient." Pause, pause, and learn about the Companions, the scholars, and the luminaries. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the Companions; I grew up in Makkah, and my origins are from Abyssinia. I am one of the Companions, I am one of the Companions, I grew up in Makkah, and my origins are from Abyssinia. I used to throw the spear with the skill of the Abyssinians, and I rarely missed with it. My conversion to Islam was delayed until after the conquest of Makkah. I killed the best of people in the Jahiliyyah, And the worst of people in Islam I was a young servant to Jubayr Ibn Mut'im. His uncle was Tu'aymah Ibn 'Adi. He was killed on the day of Badr. When the Quraysh marched toward Uhud Jubayr said to me If you kill Hamzah, the uncle of Muhammad, peace be upon him, you will have killed my uncle. Thus, you are a freed slave. So I went out with the people, and when the two armies met I began to look for Hamza and search for him. until I saw him like a greyish-colored camel. regarding the people’s honor. He guides people with his sword, a true guidance. I told them to stand up for him. I would seek cover from him behind a tree or a stone. Then, when he drew near to me I shook my spear until I was satisfied with it. I handed it over to him. It landed in the lower part of his abdomen. until it emerged from between my legs. Then he fell. Then he went to stand up, but he was unable to do so. until he passed away. Then I came to him and took my spear. Then I returned to the army. And I had no need for anything other than Him. Then, when I arrived in Makkah, I manumitted [the slave]. I resided in Makkah until it was conquered. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. So he fled to Ta'if. So I was, by means of it, [in that state]. And I said Join those in the Levant or in Yemen. Or in some of the lands. I was in the midst of that situation. When a man said to me Woe to you, for by Allah, Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, Nothing that any person kills can enter into their religion. So when he said that to me I set out until I arrived at the presence of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him in Medina. He did not finish speaking until I was already standing. Upon his head, I bear witness. The testimony of truth; then, when he saw me He said, "Sit, and narrate to me." How did you kill Hamza? So he told him the story. He said, "Woe to you!" Turn your face away from me, so that I may not see you. And so I continued to avoid it. And he would have him sit behind him in public gatherings. until Allah, the Exalted, took his soul. And following the passing of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, The Muslims went out. to Musaylimah the Liar. The master of al-Yamamah, for his battle against them and the apostates. I was with him, so I took my spear. She went out with them, carrying the spear. The one by whom Hamza was killed. When the people met, I saw Musaylimah. Standing with a sword in his hand. She prepared herself for him, and he prepared himself for her. A man from the Ansar said, "All of us desire it." When we drew near to him I shook my spear and thrust it toward him. It fell upon his pubic area. The Ansar man then bore down upon him and struck him. by the sword, for your Lord knows best. Then, on the day of al-Yamamah, I heard a crier calling out: Musaylimah the black slave was killed. Musaylimah the Black slave was killed. So, who am I? The answer is Wahshi Ibn Harb. May Allah be pleased with him. He paused. And acquaint yourself with the lives of the Companions and the scholars. And the eminent scholars. So, what is a new limit for who I am? I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. And among the foremost of the Emigrants to Islam He migrated to Abyssinia, and then to Medina. She was known for her courage in battle. And steadfastness during times of adversity. And I was an envoy of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. to Chosroes, the King of Persia. And they invited him to Islam therein. So I entered upon Chosroes in his palace. And he delivered to him the letter of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. So when he recited He became angry and tore the book to pieces. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: May Allah tear his kingdom apart. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, sent He appointed me as the leader of a military expedition on one occasion. We then stopped along the way. And we kindled a fire to warm ourselves by it. And we prepare our food upon it. I was a man who enjoyed joking. So I said to my companions Do I not have the right to your hearing and obedience? They replied, "Yes, indeed." I said, "I adjure you by Allah." Rather, you have all rushed headlong into this Fire. So when I saw that they were falling into it I said to them, "Hold back." I was merely joking with you. When they arrived before the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, They mentioned that to him. He then asked, "Who commanded you to do this?" If he commands you to commit a sin, then do not obey him. Obedience is only required in matters that are righteous and good. I set out with an army dispatched by the Commander of the Faithful. 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, for the battle against the Byzantines. Then the Romans took me captive. They took me to their king. They said, "This man is one of the Companions of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." Then their king, Caesar, said to me Are you asking if you should convert to Christianity? And I will give you half of my kingdom. I said, "If you were to give me everything you possess." And the entirety of the dominion of the Arabs. You said that, and so did he. He then commanded that I be taken. So they crucified me. And he said to the archers: Place it close to his body. He was attempting to persuade me to renounce my religion. And I refrain. So, lower me down. Then they placed me in a house without any food. I remained for three days without eating or drinking. Until my neck was bent. So they drove me out. And Caesar said to me What prevented you from eating and drinking? I said, "As for me, I know that eating it is permissible for me." from these impurities in cases of necessity. However, I disliked that you should gloat over me regarding Islam. At that point, Caesar issued a call. A great vessel into which the oil was poured. Until it began to boil. He then called for a man to be brought from prison and gave an order regarding him. Then he was cast into the boiling oil. He passed away, and his bones became visible. He was presenting Christianity to me, and I was refusing. Then Caesar said to them Cast it into the pot. So I wept, and it was said to the angel: He assumed that I had become impatient. He said, "Bring him back to me." He asked me, "What makes you weep?" I said, it is but a single soul. You are now receiving this in this vessel, and it will then depart. I used to yearn for it to be For every hair of mine that is cast into the Fire. In the path of Allah. Then Caesar asked me, "Would you be willing to accept..." I will set aside my own concerns and leave you to your affairs. So I said to him, "And what about all the captives?" One of the Muslims replied, "Yes." So I kissed his head, and he released me. And all the captives, so she arrived at 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, and she informed him. 'Umar said, "Tell me." It is incumbent upon every Muslim to accept Your head, and I shall begin. So, who am I? The answer is ‘Abdullah ibn Hudhafah al-Sahmi. May Allah be pleased with him. Pause and reflect. upon the Companions, the scholars, and the luminaries. A new challenge. Who am I? I am one of the Companions from the people of Makkah. I was a nobleman among the nobles of the Quraysh. And a leader among its leaders. And the one who held the office of the Rifadah during it. I, too, am among those who possess sound judgment and the authority to resolve matters. And the contract therein He was born inside the Ka'bah a year before The Year of the Elephant was thirteen years prior. And my paternal aunt is the Mother of the Believers. Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, may Allah be pleased with her. I was a close friend of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Before the Prophetic mission. She embraced Islam on the day of the conquest of Makkah. I witnessed the Battle of Hunayn alongside the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. The first battle I witnessed it after I embraced Islam. The Battle of Hunayn took place. And following the conclusion of the military expedition, I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, That he should give me a share of the spoils. A recent convert to Islam. Then I asked him, and he gave to me. Then I asked him, and he gave to me. Then he said to me, "Indeed, these funds..." It is sweet and green. Whoever takes it with a generous soul, it will be blessed for him. But whoever takes it with a greedy soul, it will not be blessed for him, and he will be like one who eats but is never satisfied. The upper hand is better than the lower hand. When I heard this from the Prophet, peace be upon him, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, I will not ask anyone for anything after you, nor will I accept anything from anyone after you, until I depart from this world." And I remained true to my oath. During the caliphate of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, he called me more than once to take my share from the public treasury (Bayt al-Mal) of the Muslims, but I refused to take it. When the caliphate passed to al-Faruq, may Allah be pleased with him, he also invited me to take the share, but I refused to take it. So Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, stood before the people and said, "I call you to witness, O assembly of Muslims, that I invite this man to take his share, yet he refuses." And I remained as I was; I did not take anything from anyone until I passed away. I used to perform many good deeds during the Age of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah). When I embraced Islam, I said one day to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, "What do you think of the things I used to do to draw closer to Allah during the Jahiliyyah, such as charity, freeing slaves, or maintaining family ties? Is there any reward for me in them?" The Prophet, peace be upon him, replied, "You have embraced Islam along with the good you did previously." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I will not leave anything that I did in the Jahiliyyah without doing the equivalent of it in Islam." I had freed one hundred slaves in the Jahiliyyah and provided mounts for one hundred camels, so I freed one hundred slaves in Islam and provided mounts for one hundred camels. So, who am I? The answer is Hakim Ibn Hizam, may Allah be pleased with him. Pause and identify. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the Companions, one of the youth of the Ansar. I witnessed the Second Pledge of al-Aqabah with my father, and I was the youngest to witness it, and the last of them to die. I did not witness the battles of Badr or Uhud, as my father forbade me from participating in them so that I could look after my nine sisters. But after my father was killed at Uhud, I did not miss a single battle of the battles of the Prophet, peace be upon him. I was very close to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and I narrated much knowledge from him. I had a study circle in the Prophet’s Mosque, where I taught people and gave them understanding of their religion. During the digging of the Trench, I saw the Prophet, peace be upon him, one day suffering from severe hunger, having tied two stones against his stomach due to the hunger. I returned to my wife and said to her, "Do you have any food?" She brought out a pouch containing a sa' of barley, and we had nothing else. We had a small sheep; I slaughtered the sheep and my wife ground the barley, and we prepared a little food. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and whispered to him, saying, "O Messenger of Allah, we have prepared food for you, so come, you and one or two others with you." The Prophet, peace be upon him, shouted, saying, "O people of the Trench, come, hurry to the food!" The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to me, "Do not take your cooking pot off the fire, and do not bake your dough, until I arrive." When the Prophet, peace be upon him, came to my house, I brought out the dough for him, and he spat in it and blessed it. Then he went to our cooking pot. The people came with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and they were a thousand men. I swear by Allah, they ate until they were full, then they left, and our pot was still as full as it was, and our dough was still being baked as it was. We were returning from the Battle of Dhat al-Riqa' to Medina with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and I was riding a weak camel of mine that had exhausted me on the journey, and I kept falling behind the group. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, caught up with me and said, "What is the matter with you?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, this camel of mine is slow." He said, "Make it kneel," so I made it kneel. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, also knelt, then said, "Give me that stick from your hand." I did so, and the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, took it, poked the camel with it a few times, and prayed for me. Then he said, "Ride." I rode, and my camel moved at a pace it had never moved at before. Then he, peace be upon him, said to me, I said, "No, rather it is yours, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "No, rather sell it to me." I said, "No, rather it is yours." He said, "No, rather sell it to me" for an ounce of gold. So I sold him the camel on the condition that I would deliver it to him in Medina when we arrived. When we reached Medina, I brought him the camel, and he gave me its price. Then he said, "Do you think I would take your camel? Take your camel and your dirhams; they are both yours." The camel remained with me during the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and Abu Bakr and Umar. It became old, so I brought it to Umar, and he recognized its story, so he said, "Put it with the charity camels and in the best pastures." I kept it like that until the camel died. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, had prayed for my forgiveness on the night of this camel twenty-five times. So, who am I? The answer is Jabir Ibn Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them both.
