Pause. Get to know the Companions, the scholars, and the prominent figures. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him. I was a young man from the tribe of Muzaynah. My father passed away when I was young. I grew up an orphan with no wealth of my own. My uncle took me under his care. He was a wealthy man. He loved me deeply. He showered me with wealth. Until I became the wealthiest young man in our tribe. My clothes were brought to me from the Levant. I owned a unique horse. No other young man among the Arabs possessed one like it. I heard about Islam. Faith took root in my heart. Along with a love for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. I embraced Islam but kept my faith hidden. I would watch for the migrating Companions. On their way to Medina. Whenever I met one of them, I would walk with him on foot. I would take the rulings of the religion from him. And learn the Qur'an from him. Until sunset arrived. Then I would return to my people. And wait for another the following day. And so it went. I longed for my uncle to embrace Islam. The one who had cared for me and been generous to me. When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, arrived in Medina, My soul began to yearn for migration. But I could not do so because of my uncle. Years passed, and events unfolded while I remained in my place. So I said to my uncle one day, "O uncle, I have waited a long time for you to embrace Islam. But I see that you do not want Muhammad." "So grant me permission to embrace Islam." He became angry with me and said, "By Allah, if you follow Muhammad, I will not leave in your possession anything I have ever given you. I will strip it all away from you, Even these two garments you are wearing." I replied, "By Allah, I am a follower of Muhammad, And I have abandoned the worship of stone and idols. As for what is in my possession, take it." So he took everything he had given me. He even stripped me of my clothes. I went to my mother. She cut a coarse garment of hers into two pieces. A *bijad* is a thick, coarse fabric. I used one piece as a waist-wrapper and the other as a mantle. Then I set out, migrating to Medina. I had no food with me. The journey exhausted me. My body weakened and my complexion paled. Until I reached Medina at the time of dawn. I lay down in the mosque. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, led us in the morning prayer. He began to scan the faces of the people after the prayer. He looked at me and did not recognize me. He asked, "Who are you?" I told him. He said, "Stay close to me." I did so. I became one of his guests. He would teach me the Qur'an. Until I had memorized much of it. I remained by his side for most of my time. I witnessed with the Prophet, peace be upon him, The Battle of Tabuk. On our way back, I fell severely ill. We stopped along the way. My illness intensified. Until my soul was taken. Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, woke up that night. He saw a faint light at the edge of the camp. He said, "I will draw near to them, Perhaps I might find some food with them." The people were in a state of severe hunger. He approached the light. And there was the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, Who had descended into my grave. With Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, Lowering me down to him. And he was saying, "Bring your brother closer to me." When he had positioned me in the niche of the grave, He, peace be upon him, said, "O Allah, I have spent the evening pleased with him, So be pleased with him." He said this three times. Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "Would that I were the one in that grave." So, who am I? Share your answers with us in the comments below the video.
