A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the Companions from the Ansar.
I was among the first to embrace Islam.
I witnessed the Battle of Badr and all subsequent battles with the Prophet, peace be upon him.
I stood firm on the day of Uhud when the people retreated.
On that day, I pledged to fight to the death.
I stood defending the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, with my arrows.
He, peace be upon him, said:
"Shoot, Sahl, for he is easy [to deal with]."
After the battle, the Prophet, peace be upon him, praised me.
When Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, entered to see Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, with his sword,
while she was washing the blood from the face of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
he gave her the sword and said:
"Take it, for he has fought well with it."
The Prophet, peace be upon him, then said:
"If he has fought well, then so-and-so has also fought well,"
and he called me by my name.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, did not give
any of the wealth of Banu al-Nadir to anyone from the Ansar
except for me and Abu Dujanah, may Allah be pleased with him, because of our poverty.
I went out on an expedition with the Muslims,
and I stopped at a stream and bathed in it.
I was fair-skinned and had beautiful skin.
Amir ibn Rabi'ah saw me and said,
"By Allah, I have never seen anything like today, not even the skin of a virgin."
His evil eye struck me, and I fell ill with a fever,
barely able to lift my head.
They brought me to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
and informed him of my condition.
He, peace be upon him, said:
"Do you suspect anyone regarding this?"
They said, "Yes, we suspect Amir ibn Rabi'ah."
"For he said such and such."
So he, peace be upon him, summoned him,
and spoke to him sternly,
saying, "Why would one of you kill his brother?
What prevents one of you, when he sees in his brother
something that impresses him regarding his person or his wealth,
from invoking blessings upon him?
The evil eye is real.
Perform ghusl for him."
So Amir washed his face, his hands,
his elbows, his knees,
the extremities of his feet,
and the inside of his lower garment into a vessel.
Then they poured it over me,
and I stood up and walked with the people,
as if there were nothing wrong with me.
When my time of death approached,
the Caliph of the Muslims prayed over me,
Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him.
Ali performed six takbirs over me.
Some of the people seemed to disapprove of that,
so he said to them,
"He was a veteran of Badr,
and the people of Badr have a merit over others,
so I wanted to make their merit known to you."
