Forty hadiths on the virtue of charity.
On the authority of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him).
From the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said:
"Every Muslim must give charity."
They asked, "O Prophet of Allah,
what if he cannot find anything to give?"
He replied,
"Let him work with his hands,
so that he may benefit himself and give charity."
They asked,
"And if he still cannot find anything?"
He replied,
"Let him assist the person in need who is distressed."
They asked,
"And if he still cannot find anything?"
He replied,
"Let him perform good deeds,
and refrain from evil,
for that is charity for him."
