mosque while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was sitting with his Companions. 00:36:50.329 --> 00:36:52.389 I approached them and said, 00:36:52.389 --> 00:36:55.389 "Which of you is the son of 'Abd al-Muttalib?" 00:36:55.389 --> 00:36:59.489 The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, 00:36:59.489 --> 00:37:01.489 "I am the son of 'Abd al-Muttalib." 00:37:02.519 --> 00:37:03.519 I said, 00:37:03.519 --> 00:37:05.519 "O son of 'Abd al-Muttalib, 00:37:05.519 --> 00:37:09.519 I am going to question you and be blunt in my questioning, 00:37:09.519 --> 00:37:12.619 so do not take 00:37:27.969 --> 00:37:31.969 has Allah truly sent you to us as a messenger?" 00:37:31.969 --> 00:37:35.059 He (peace be upon him) replied, 00:37:35.059 --> 00:37:37.059 "By Allah, yes." 00:37:37.059 --> 00:37:38.320 I said, 00:37:38.320 --> 00:37:41.320 "Then I adjure you by Allah—your God, 00:37:41.320 --> 00:37:43.320 the God of those before you, 00:37:43.320 --> 00:37:47.320 and the God of those after you— 00:37:47.320 --> 00:37:54.320 has Allah truly commanded you to order us to worship Him alone and associate nothing with Him, 00:37:54.320 --> 00:38:00.539 and to renounce these idols that our forefathers used to worship alongside Him?" 00:38:00.539 --> 00:38:01.539 He said, 00:38:01.539 --> 00:38:03.539 "By Allah, yes." 00:38:03.539 --> 00:38:04.670 I said, 00:38:04.670 --> 00:38:07.670 "Then I adjure you by Allah—your God, 00:38:07.670 --> 00:38:09.670 the God of those before you, 00:38:09.670 --> 00:38:13.739 and the God of those after you— 00:38:13.739 --> 00:38:18.739 has Allah truly commanded you that we perform these five daily prayers?" 00:38:18.739 --> 00:38:19.739 He said, 00:38:19.739 --> 00:38:22.860 "By Allah, yes." 00:38:22.860 --> 00:38:26.860 Then I began mentioning the obligatory rites of Islam one by one: 00:38:26.860 --> 00:38:29.860 zakat, fasting, Hajj, 00:38:29.860 --> 00:38:32.860 and all the laws of Islam, 00:38:32.860 --> 00:38:38.860 adjuring him at every obligation just as I had adjured him regarding the ones before. 00:38:38.860 --> 00:38:41.929 When I finished, I said, 00:38:41.929 --> 00:38:45.929 "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, 00:38:45.929 --> 00:38:48.929 and I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah. 00:38:48.929 --> 00:38:51.989 I shall perform these obligations 00:38:51.989 --> 00:38:54.989 and avoid what you have forbidden me, 00:38:54.989 --> 00:38:57.989 adding nothing and subtracting nothing." 00:38:57.989 --> 00:39:02.150 Then I turned and went back to 00:43:22.369 --> 00:43:26.369 After the death of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:43:26.369 --> 00:43:28.369 I set out for the Levant 00:43:28.369 --> 00:43:30.369 as a fighter in the cause of Allah, 00:43:30.369 --> 00:43:34.400 ascetic in this world and turning away from it. 00:43:34.400 --> 00:43:36.400 Were it not that people would say, 00:43:36.400 --> 00:43:38.400 "Abu Najih did such-and-such," 00:43:38.400 --> 00:43:41.400 and take this as a path to follow, 00:43:41.400 --> 00:43:45.400 I would have spent all my wealth in the cause of Allah, 00:43:45.400 --> 00:43:49.400 then joined one of the valleys of Lebanon 00:43:49.400 --> 00:43:52.659 and worshipped Allah until I died. 00:43:52.659 --> 00:43:55.659 Some of the Tabi'un came to me and said, 00:43:55.659 --> 00:44:00.659 "We have come to visit you, care for you, and seek knowledge from you; 00:44:00.659 --> 00:44:06.659 so relate to us a hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." 00:44:06.659 --> 00:44:08.719 I said to them, 00:44:08.719 --> 00:44:14.719 "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) led us in the morning prayer one day, 00:44:14.719 --> 00:44:16.719 then turned to face us 00:44:16.719 --> 00:44:19.719 and delivered an eloquent, deeply moving sermon 00:44:19.719 --> 00:44:21.719 that caused eyes to overflow with tears 00:44:21.719 --> 00:44:24.719 and hearts to be filled with awe. 00:44:24.719 --> 00:44:25.780 Someone said, 00:44:25.780 --> 00:44:27.780 'O Messenger of Allah, 00:44:27.780 --> 00:44:30.780 this sounds like a farewell sermon, 00:44:30.780 --> 00:44:33.780 so what do you counsel us?' 00:44:33.780 --> 00:44:34.880 He said, 00:44:34.880 --> 00:44:37.880 'I counsel you to fear Allah, 00:44:37.880 --> 00:44:39.880 and to listen and obey, 00:44:39.880 --> 00:44:43.010 even if an Abyssinian slave were placed in command over you. 00:44:43.010 --> 00:44:46.010 For indeed, whoever among you lives after me 00:44:46.010 --> 00:44:49.039 will see much conflict. 00:44:49.039 --> 00:44:51.039 So adhere to my Sunnah 00:44:51.039 --> 00:44:56.039 and the Sunnah of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs; 00:44:56.039 --> 00:44:58.039 hold fast to it 00:44:58.039 --> 00:45:01.099 and bite onto it with your molar teeth. 00:45:01.099 --> 00:45:04.099 Beware of newly invented matters, 00:45:04.099 --> 00:45:07.099 for every newly invented matter is an innovation, 00:45:07.099 --> 00:45:11.130 and every innovation is misguidance.'
