al-As Ibn Umayyah, 00:00:59.590 --> 00:01:01.590 known by the kunya Abu Uhayhah, 00:01:01.590 --> 00:01:05.590 set out from his residence in the upper part of al-Hajun, heading toward the Sacred Mosque. 00:01:05.590 --> 00:01:09.590 He was adorned with his precious, vibrant red turban, 00:01:09.590 --> 00:01:13.620 and draped over his shoulders was a cloak from the garments of the kings of Yemen, 00:01:13.620 --> 00:01:16.620 embroidered with threads of gold. 00:01:16.620 --> 00:01:21.689 A group of his servants, wearing swords, walked before him, 00:01:21.689 --> 00:01:24.689 and to his right were some of his children, 00:01:24.689 --> 00:01:27.689 led by his son, Khalid. 00:01:27.689 --> 00:01:32.719 To his left was a group of the men of his tribe, the Banu Abd Shams, 00:01:32.719 --> 00:01:36.719 strutting in their garments of silk and brocade. 00:01:36.719 --> 00:01:41.849 When Abu Uhayhah appeared at the Sacred Mosque, the people said, 00:01:41.849 --> 00:01:43.849 "The Crowned One has arrived," 00:01:43.849 --> 00:01:46.849 for that was the title they gave him, 00:01:46.849 --> 00:01:49.849 because whenever he crowned his head with a turban, 00:01:49.849 --> 00:01:55.849 no one from the Quraysh would wear a turban of that same color until he removed his. 00:01:55.849 --> 00:01:58.849 The people cleared the path for him and those with him, 00:01:58.849 --> 00:02:01.849 until he took his seat beneath the Ka'bah. 00:02:01.849 --> 00:02:05.849 There, Abu Sufyan Ibn Harb approached him, 00:02:05.849 --> 00:02:07.849 along with Utbah Ibn Rabi'ah, 00:02:07.849 --> 00:02:09.849 Abu Jahl Ibn Hisham, 00:02:09.849 --> 00:02:12.849 and other leaders of the Quraysh to greet him. 00:02:12.849 --> 00:02:14.849 He said to them, 00:02:14.849 --> 00:02:16.849 "What is this news I have heard, 00:02:16.849 --> 00:02:20.849 that Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas has followed Muhammad, 00:02:20.849 --> 00:02:23.849 and that he dared to confront a man of the Quraysh, 00:02:23.849 --> 00:02:26.849 splitting his head and shedding his blood, 00:02:26.849 --> 00:02:30.849 because he forbade him from praying to any but our gods?" 00:02:30.849 --> 00:02:31.849 Then he said, 00:02:31.849 --> 00:02:33.849 "By al-Lat and al-Uzza, 00:02:33.849 --> 00:02:37.849 if you continue in this leniency toward Muhammad Ibn Abdullah, 00:02:37.849 --> 00:02:40.849 out of consideration for the Banu Hashim, 00:02:40.849 --> 00:02:42.849 I shall deal with him alone, 00:02:42.849 --> 00:02:46.849 and I will ensure that the God of the son of Abi Kabshah is not worshipped in Makkah." 00:02:46.849 --> 00:02:50.939 Then he returned in the same procession in which he had come, 00:02:50.939 --> 00:02:54.939 and no one remained behind except his son, Khalid. 00:02:54.939 --> 00:02:58.939 Khalid Ibn Sa'id Ibn al-As had remained in the Sacred Mosque, 00:02:58.939 --> 00:03:01.939 moving between the gatherings of the people, 00:03:01.939 --> 00:03:03.939 to catch news of Muhammad, 00:03:03.939 --> 00:03:07.979 and to listen to what was being said about his call. 00:03:07.979 --> 00:03:12.979 He did not find, in all that he heard about the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:03:12.979 --> 00:03:18.979 anything to justify the hatred he saw in his father toward Muhammad and his Companions, 00:03:18.979 --> 00:03:25.979 or anything to warrant the malice that surged within his soul and the souls of the leaders of the Quraysh. 00:03:25.979 --> 00:03:32.139 When night fell, Khalid Ibn Sa'id returned to their residence, 00:03:32.139 --> 00:03:36.139 and went to his quarters without passing by his father's room 00:03:36.139 --> 00:03:39.139 to bid him good evening, 00:03:39.139 --> 00:03:42.259 as he used to do every day. 00:03:42.259 --> 00:03:46.520 Then he lay down on his soft bed, intending to sleep, 00:03:46.520 --> 00:03:49.520 but sleep did not come to Khalid, 00:03:49.520 --> 00:03:52.520 nor did his eyes find rest in it. 00:03:52.520 --> 00:03:56.520 He was overcome by an insomnia that chased slumber from his eyes, 00:03:56.520 --> 00:04:01.520 for his mind was occupied by the affair of Muhammad and what he called to, 00:04:01.520 --> 00:04:06.810 and by his fear that his father might strike him with the violence of a tyrant. 00:04:06.810 --> 00:04:09.810 In the last third of the night, 00:04:09.810 --> 00:04:11.810 exhaustion overcame him, 00:04:11.810 --> 00:04:14.810 and he surrendered his eyelids to sleep. 00:04:14.810 --> 00:04:16.810 It was only a short while 00:04:16.810 --> 00:04:20.810 before he awoke, terrified and pale, 00:04:20.810 --> 00:04:22.810 trembling from the horror of what he had seen, 00:04:22.810 --> 00:04:24.810 and shaking from the intensity of what he had endured, 00:04:24.810 --> 00:04:26.810 saying, 00:04:26.810 --> 00:04:30.810 "I swear by Allah, this vision is a true vision, 00:04:30.810 --> 00:04:33.810 and I have not seen a falsehood." 00:04:33.810 --> 00:04:35.810 Khalid had seen himself 00:04:35.810 --> 00:04:40.810 standing on the edge of a deep chasm of the valleys of Hell, 00:04:40.810 --> 00:04:42.810 the extent of which the eye could not perceive, 00:04:42.810 --> 00:04:45.810 and the bottom of which no one could know. 00:04:45.810 --> 00:04:50.810 In this valley, a fire was blazing, having a sighing and a roaring 00:04:50.810 --> 00:04:53.810 that would tear hearts from their places, 00:04:53.810 --> 00:04:56.899 and crush souls with immense force. 00:04:56.899 --> 00:04:59.899 When he intended to move away from the edge of the valley, 00:04:59.899 --> 00:05:01.899 his father appeared before him, 00:05:01.899 --> 00:05:04.899 and began pulling him toward the fire with violence. 00:05:04.899 --> 00:05:08.899 He began to resist his father with the utmost resistance, 00:05:08.899 --> 00:05:11.939 and wrestled with him with the fiercest struggle, 00:05:11.939 --> 00:05:13.939 until his resolve began to fail, 00:05:13.939 --> 00:05:16.939 and he was on the verge of falling into the edge of Hell. 00:05:16.939 --> 00:05:20.939 Suddenly, Muhammad Ibn Abdullah approached him, 00:05:20.939 --> 00:05:23.939 took hold of his belt with both hands, 00:05:23.939 --> 00:05:25.939 and pulled him toward himself, 00:05:25.939 --> 00:05:31.160 saving him from falling into the edge of the valley of Hell. 00:05:31.160 --> 00:05:33.160 No sooner had the morning dawned 00:05:33.160 --> 00:05:40.160 than Khalid Ibn Sa'id went to the house of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, 00:05:40.160 --> 00:05:44.160 because he found comfort and reassurance in him. 00:05:44.160 --> 00:05:46.160 He told him of his vision, 00:05:46.160 --> 00:05:48.160 and Abu Bakr said to him, 00:05:48.160 --> 00:05:52.160 "Allah has intended good for you, O Khalid. 00:05:52.160 --> 00:05:58.160 Allah, the Exalted, has sent Muhammad Ibn Abdullah with the religion of guidance and truth, 00:05:58.160 --> 00:06:01.160 and this religion will prevail over all religions, 00:06:01.160 --> 00:06:03.160 even if the polytheists dislike it. 00:06:03.160 --> 00:06:05.160 So follow him, O Khalid, 00:06:05.160 --> 00:06:09.160 for if you follow him, the gates of Paradise will be opened for you, 00:06:09.160 --> 00:06:12.160 and you will be shielded from the Fire. 00:06:12.160 --> 00:06:18.480 As for your father, he is falling into the Hell into which he wanted to cast you." 00:06:18.480 --> 00:06:23.480 Khalid Ibn Sa'id set out to the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:06:23.480 --> 00:06:27.480 and the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was at that time 00:06:27.480 --> 00:06:30.480 worshipping Allah in secret in Ajyad. 00:06:30.480 --> 00:06:32.480 He greeted him and said, 00:06:32.480 --> 00:06:35.480 "To what do you call us, O Muhammad?" 00:06:35.480 --> 00:06:37.480 He replied, 00:06:37.480 --> 00:06:41.480 "I call you to believe in Allah alone, with no partner, 00:06:41.480 --> 00:06:44.480 and that I am His servant and His Messenger, 00:06:44.480 --> 00:06:49.480 and to cast off what you are upon of worshipping a stone that neither sees nor hears, 00:06:49.480 --> 00:06:52.480 nor harms nor benefits, 00:06:52.480 --> 00:06:56.480 and does not distinguish between those who worship it and those who turn away from it." 00:06:56.480 --> 00:07:00.480 Khalid’s face brightened, and he said, 00:07:00.480 --> 00:07:03.480 "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, 00:07:03.480 --> 00:07:06.480 and that you are the servant of Allah and His Messenger." 00:07:06.480 --> 00:07:09.610 Thus, Khalid Ibn Sa'id Ibn al-As was 00:07:09.610 --> 00:07:14.800 the fifth of five or the sixth of six who embraced Islam on the face of the earth, 00:07:14.800 --> 00:07:17.800 for no one preceded him in this great virtue 00:07:17.800 --> 00:07:20.800 except Khadijah Bint Khuwaylid, 00:07:20.800 --> 00:07:22.800 Zayd Ibn Harithah, 00:07:22.800 them all. 00:07:32.060 --> 00:07:37.060 Khalid Ibn Sa'id left his father's lofty palace in the upper part of al-Hajun, 00:07:37.060 --> 00:07:40.060 turned away from his soft, luxurious life, 00:07:40.060 --> 00:07:43.060 and his comfortable, pleasant existence, 00:07:43.060 --> 00:07:47.060 and joined the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. 00:07:47.060 --> 00:07:52.060 He began to move with him and his Companions through the mountain passes of Makkah, 00:07:52.060 --> 00:07:55.060 filling himself with the sentiments of faith, 00:07:55.060 --> 00:08:00.060 memorizing what was revealed to the noble Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:08:00.060 --> 00:08:02.060 of the verses of the Qur'an, 00:08:02.060 --> 00:08:06.060 and worshipping Allah in secret for fear of the harm of the Quraysh. 00:08:06.060 --> 00:08:10.149 When Khalid's absence from the house became prolonged, 00:08:10.149 --> 00:08:13.149 his father missed him and could not find him, 00:08:13.149 --> 00:08:15.149 so he sent spies after him. 00:08:15.149 --> 00:08:18.149 The news came to him saying, 00:08:18.149 --> 00:08:21.180 "He has embraced Islam and followed Muhammad." 00:08:21.180 --> 00:08:24.180 The master of Makkah went mad with rage, 00:08:24.180 --> 00:08:26.180 for he had never imagined 00:08:26.180 --> 00:08:29.180 that any of his children would dare 00:08:29.180 --> 00:08:31.180 to rebel against his authority, 00:08:31.180 --> 00:08:33.179 disbelieve in Allah and al-Uzza, 00:08:33.179 --> 00:08:35.179 and join Muhammad. 00:08:35.179 --> 00:08:38.220 He sent his servant Rafi' to him, 00:08:38.220 --> 00:08:41.220 along with his brothers Aban and Amr. 00:08:41.220 --> 00:08:44.220 They found him praying in one of the mountain passes, a prayer 00:08:44.220 --> 00:08:46.220 that shook their hearts, 00:08:46.220 --> 00:08:50.220 filled their souls with comfort and tranquility, 00:08:50.220 --> 00:08:54.250 and flooded their spirits with peace and security. 00:08:54.250 --> 00:08:55.250 They said to him, 00:08:55.250 --> 00:08:58.250 "Your father calls you to meet him, 00:08:58.250 --> 00:09:01.250 and he is furious because you left the house 00:09:01.250 --> 00:09:03.379 without his permission." 00:09:03.379 --> 00:09:05.379 Khalid went with them, 00:09:05.379 --> 00:09:07.379 and when he stood before his father, 00:09:07.379 --> 00:09:10.379 he greeted him with the greeting of Islam. 00:09:10.379 --> 00:09:12.379 His father said to him, 00:09:12.379 --> 00:09:13.379 "Woe to you! 00:09:13.379 --> 00:09:17.379 Have you apostatized from your religion and the religion of your fathers and grandfathers, 00:09:17.379 --> 00:09:19.379 and followed Muhammad?" 00:09:19.379 --> 00:09:21.440 Khalid replied, 00:09:21.440 --> 00:09:23.440 "I have not apostatized, 00:09:23.440 --> 00:09:26.440 rather, I have believed in Allah alone, with no partner, 00:09:26.440 --> 00:09:31.440 and I have testified to the prophethood of His Messenger, Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:09:31.440 --> 00:09:36.440 and I have rejected these idols that you worship besides Allah." 00:09:36.440 --> 00:09:38.500 His father said, 00:09:38.500 --> 00:09:39.500 "Woe to you! 00:09:39.500 --> 00:09:42.500 Do you say that you have believed this claimant?" 00:09:42.500 --> 00:09:44.570 Khalid said, 00:09:44.570 --> 00:09:46.570 "He is not a claimant, 00:09:46.570 --> 00:09:50.570 rather, he is truthful, delivering the messages of his Lord, 00:09:50.570 --> 00:09:54.570 and offering sincere advice to me, to you, and to all people." 00:09:55.629 --> 00:09:57.629 His father said, 00:09:57.629 --> 00:10:00.629 "You must turn away from him and call him a liar." 00:10:00.629 --> 00:10:02.659 Khalid said, 00:10:02.659 --> 00:10:06.820 "I will not do so as long as I have a pulse." 00:10:06.820 --> 00:10:07.820 His father said, 00:10:07.820 --> 00:10:10.820 "Then I shall cut you off from my provision." 00:10:10.820 --> 00:10:12.950 Khalid said, 00:10:12.950 --> 00:10:15.950 "That is the easiest of what I expected from you, 00:10:15.950 --> 00:10:17.950 and the least of what I anticipated. 00:10:17.950 --> 00:10:20.950 For the Allah who provided for you will provide for me." 00:10:20.950 --> 00:10:24.950 The master of the Banu Abd Shams was filled with rage against him, 00:10:24.950 --> 00:10:28.950 and he fell upon him with a heavy stick he had prepared for him, 00:10:28.950 --> 00:10:32.139 splitting his head and shedding his blood. 00:10:32.139 --> 00:10:38.139 He continued to strike him until blood began to gush from his head and body. 00:10:38.139 --> 00:10:40.139 Then he ordered him to be seized, 00:10:40.139 --> 00:10:42.139 his bonds were tightened, 00:10:42.139 --> 00:10:45.139 and he was imprisoned in a dark room, 00:10:45.139 --> 00:10:49.139 and denied food and drink for three days. 00:10:49.139 --> 00:10:53.139 Then, on the fourth day, a group of his family came to him and said, 00:10:53.139 --> 00:10:56.139 "How are you, O Khalid?" 00:10:56.139 --> 00:10:57.139 He replied, 00:10:57.139 --> 00:11:01.139 "I am basking in the blessings of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic." 00:11:01.139 --> 00:11:02.139 He said, 00:11:02.139 --> 00:11:07.179 "Is it not time for you to return to your senses and obey your father?" 00:11:07.179 --> 00:11:08.179 He replied, 00:11:08.179 --> 00:11:12.179 As for Rushdi, he never parted from me, nor did I part from him. 00:11:12.179 --> 00:11:18.179 As for my father, I will not obey him in anything that involves disobedience to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic. 00:11:18.179 --> 00:11:19.179 He said: 00:11:19.179 --> 00:11:24.179 "Say a word to your father that will please him regarding Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza, and he will relieve you." 00:11:24.179 --> 00:11:26.240 He replied: 00:11:26.240 --> 00:11:30.240 "Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza are but two deaf and dumb stones. 00:11:30.240 --> 00:11:35.240 I will say nothing about them except what pleases Allah and His Messenger. 00:11:35.240 --> 00:11:37.240 Let him do with me what he wills." 00:11:37.240 --> 00:11:41.500 Abu Uhayha tightened the bonds of Khalid. 00:11:41.500 --> 00:11:47.500 He ordered his followers to take him out every day during the midday heat to the open valley of Makkah. 00:11:47.500 --> 00:11:52.500 They were to cast him among the stones until the sun scorched him. 00:11:52.500 --> 00:11:57.500 Whenever they took him out and cast him into the midday heat, he would say: 00:11:57.500 --> 00:12:03.500 "Praise be to Allah, who has honored me with faith and strengthened me with Islam. 00:12:03.500 --> 00:12:08.500 All of this is easier for me than a single moment of torment in Hell, 00:12:08.500 --> 00:12:12.500 which Abu Uhayha intends to cast me into." 00:12:12.500 --> 00:12:18.590 May Allah reward His Prophet and His chosen one with the best of rewards on my behalf and on behalf of the Muslims. 00:12:18.590 --> 00:12:20.590 Then, an opportunity arose for Khalid. 00:12:20.590 --> 00:12:27.590 He escaped from his father's prison and went to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. 00:12:27.590 --> 00:12:31.590 It was not long before his brothers, 'Umar and Aban, joined him. 00:12:31.590 --> 00:12:35.620 They joined him in the procession of goodness and light. 00:12:35.620 --> 00:12:39.620 At that, Abu Uhayha was confounded and said: 00:12:39.620 --> 00:12:44.620 "By Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza, I shall isolate myself with my wealth far from Makkah. 00:12:44.620 --> 00:12:46.620 That is better for me. 00:12:46.620 --> 00:12:52.620 I shall abandon those renegades who insult my gods and my lords." 00:12:52.620 --> 00:12:56.620 He then moved to a village near Ta'if. 00:12:56.620 --> 00:13:00.620 He remained there until he died of grief, while still in a state of polytheism. 00:13:00.620 --> 00:13:08.009 When the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, permitted his Companions to migrate to Abyssinia, 00:13:08.009 --> 00:13:11.009 Khalid ibn Sa'id ibn al-'As migrated there. 00:13:11.009 --> 00:13:16.009 With him was his wife, Amina bint Khalaf al-Khuza'iyya. 00:13:16.009 --> 00:13:21.009 He stayed there for over a decade, calling people to Allah. 00:13:21.009 --> 00:13:27.009 He did not leave for Madinah until after Allah granted the Muslims victory at Khaybar. 00:13:27.009 --> 00:13:32.070 The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was overjoyed at his arrival. 00:13:32.070 --> 00:13:37.070 He gave him a share of the spoils of Khaybar just as he did for the combatants. 00:13:37.070 --> 00:13:39.070 Then, he appointed him governor of Yemen. 00:13:39.070 --> 00:13:47.070 He remained governor there until the noble Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, passed away to the proximity of his Lord. 00:13:47.070 --> 00:13:50.200 During the era of the Truthful One (Abu Bakr), may Allah be pleased with him, 00:13:50.200 --> 00:13:57.200 Khalid ibn Sa'id ibn al-'As joined the ranks of the army heading to the Levant to fight the Romans. 00:13:57.200 --> 00:14:03.200 He fought on the battlefields with a valor befitting a brave knight like him. 00:14:04.200 --> 00:14:09.200 Shortly before the Battle of Marj al-Suffar, which took place near Damascus, 00:14:09.200 --> 00:14:14.200 Khalid proposed to Umm Hakim bint al-Harith and married her. 00:14:14.200 --> 00:14:18.200 When he wished to consummate the marriage, she said: 00:14:18.200 --> 00:14:27.200 "O Khalid, it would be better if you delayed this until the people are finished with this battle we are about to face." 00:14:27.200 --> 00:14:29.200 He said to her: 00:14:29.200 --> 00:14:35.200 "My soul tells me that I will be struck Habib ibn Salama stepped forward to face him and killed him. 00:14:55.230 --> 00:14:59.230 Another knight came out and challenged for a duel. 00:14:59.230 --> 00:15:05.230 Khalid ibn Sa'id stepped forward, and the two knights clashed and circled each other. 00:15:05.230 --> 00:15:10.230 Then, each of them dealt the other a fatal blow. 00:15:10.230 --> 00:15:14.230 The Roman's sword struck, while Khalid's sword missed. 00:15:14.230 --> 00:15:17.230 He fell, a fallen martyr. 00:15:17.230 --> 00:15:22.330 Then the two armies clashed, and a fierce, grinding battle ensued. 00:15:22.330 --> 00:15:27.330 Nothing could be heard in it but the sound of swords striking the men. 00:15:27.330 --> 00:15:34.330 At that moment, Umm Hakim rose like a lioness whose cubs had been taken from her. 00:15:34.330 --> 00:15:37.330 She tightened her wedding garments. 00:15:37.330 --> 00:15:41.330 She uprooted the tent pole that had witnessed her wedding night. 00:15:41.330 --> 00:15:44.330 She plunged into the battle with the combatants. 00:15:44.330 --> 00:15:48.330 She struck down seven Roman knights. 00:15:48.330 --> 00:15:55.360 She continued to fight until the battle ended in a resounding victory for Islam and the Muslims. 00:15:55.360 --> 00:16:01.490 The price of this victory was pure, sanctified souls. 00:16:01.490 --> 00:16:05.549 They departed to their Lord,
