--> 00:00:30.829 I was born in the same year the Prophet, peace be upon him, was born. 00:00:30.829 --> 00:00:34.829 My mother is Arwa bint al-Harith ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib. 00:00:34.829 --> 00:00:38.829 She is the cousin of the Prophet, peace be upon him. 00:00:38.829 --> 00:00:41.829 I was among the distinguished men of Makkah. 00:00:41.829 --> 00:00:44.929 I was a man of wealth and commerce. 00:00:44.929 --> 00:00:46.929 I embraced Islam on the day of the conquest of Makkah. 00:00:46.929 --> 00:00:50.929 I was known for my intelligence, sagacity, and sound judgment. 00:00:50.929 --> 00:00:55.990 I narrated several hadiths from the Prophet, peace be upon him. 00:00:55.990 --> 00:01:02.020 The Prophet, peace be upon him, praised me before I even embraced Islam. 00:01:02.020 --> 00:01:05.019 He described me as having sagacity and intelligence. 00:01:05.019 --> 00:01:10.019 This occurred when my father was taken prisoner by the Muslims at the Battle of Badr. 00:01:10.019 --> 00:01:13.019 The Quraysh were hesitant to pay the ransom for the prisoners. 00:01:13.019 --> 00:01:17.019 They did not want the Muslims to feel emboldened against them. 00:01:17.019 --> 00:01:21.079 When the Prophet, peace be upon him, saw my father, 00:01:21.079 --> 00:01:25.079 He said, "He has a son in Makkah who is intelligent," 00:01:25.079 --> 00:01:27.079 "And a wealthy merchant." 00:01:27.079 --> 00:01:29.209 During that time, 00:01:29.209 --> 00:01:33.209 I secretly left Makkah and came to Madinah. 00:01:33.209 --> 00:01:37.209 I ransomed my father for four thousand dirhams. 00:01:37.209 --> 00:01:39.209 When I brought him back to Makkah, 00:01:39.209 --> 00:01:42.209 They blamed me for acting in such haste. 00:01:42.209 --> 00:01:47.209 I told them, "I could not leave my father as a prisoner." 00:01:47.209 --> 00:01:52.269 By doing so, I was the first from Quraysh to ransom a prisoner on the day of Badr. 00:01:52.269 --> 00:01:56.260 Among the proofs of my sagacity: 00:01:56.260 --> 00:02:00.260 During the pre-Islamic era, I feared that some event might occur, 00:02:00.260 --> 00:02:03.260 That would change the position of the Maqam Ibrahim (the Station of Abraham), peace be upon him. 00:02:03.260 --> 00:02:05.260 Within the Sacred Mosque. 00:02:05.260 --> 00:02:08.259 So, as a precaution, I brought some ropes. 00:02:08.259 --> 00:02:13.259 I measured the distance between the Maqam and the wall of the Ka'bah. 00:02:13.259 --> 00:02:16.259 I recorded that measurement on the first rope. 00:02:16.259 --> 00:02:20.259 Then, I measured the distance between the Maqam and the Black Stone. 00:02:20.259 --> 00:02:23.259 I recorded that on the second rope. 00:02:23.259 --> 00:02:28.259 Then, I measured the distance between the Maqam and the well of Zamzam. 00:02:28.259 --> 00:02:31.259 And I recorded it on the third rope. 00:02:31.259 --> 00:02:35.259 I then kept the ropes in a chest inside my house. 00:02:35.259 --> 00:02:40.419 Years passed until a powerful flood struck Makkah, 00:02:40.419 --> 00:02:43.419 In the seventeenth year of the Hijrah. 00:02:43.419 --> 00:02:46.419 It became known as the flood of Umm Nahshal. 00:02:46.419 --> 00:02:48.419 It uprooted the Maqam from its place, 00:02:48.419 --> 00:02:52.419 And cast it far away into the lower part of Makkah. 00:02:52.419 --> 00:02:54.419 It was buried under the sand. 00:02:54.419 --> 00:02:58.419 People could not find it after they had exhausted their search. 00:02:58.419 --> 00:03:03.419 The Caliph of the Muslims, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, was distressed by this. 00:03:03.419 --> 00:03:05.419 He was deeply troubled. 00:03:05.419 --> 00:03:09.650 Then, a man went out to attend to his needs in the lower part of Makkah, 00:03:09.650 --> 00:03:11.650 And he found the stone. 00:03:11.650 --> 00:03:13.650 He sent word to the people, 00:03:13.650 --> 00:03:16.650 They came and retrieved it, rejoicing. 00:03:16.650 --> 00:03:18.650 They sent word to 'Umar in Madinah. 00:03:18.650 --> 00:03:22.650 He ordered them not to do anything until he arrived. 00:03:22.650 --> 00:03:25.650 He left Madinah to perform 'Umrah, 00:03:25.650 --> 00:03:28.650 Accompanied by the elders of the Muhajirun and the Ansar. 00:03:28.650 --> 00:03:30.650 I went out with them. 00:03:30.650 --> 00:03:32.650 When he arrived at the House, 00:03:32.650 --> 00:03:33.650 He said, 00:03:33.650 --> 00:03:36.650 "I adjure you by Allah, O Muslims," 00:03:36.650 --> 00:03:41.650 "Who knows the original and exact position of the Maqam before the flood?" 00:03:41.650 --> 00:03:43.650 I stepped forward and said, 00:03:43.650 --> 00:03:46.650 "I do, O Commander of the Faithful." 00:03:46.650 --> 00:03:49.650 "I had measured it and determined its location." 00:03:49.650 --> 00:03:52.650 He ordered me to return it to its place. 00:03:53.650 --> 00:03:56.650 I requested the chest from my house in Makkah, 00:03:56.650 --> 00:03:59.650 And I brought out the ropes before the people. 00:03:59.650 --> 00:04:02.650 I took the measurements of the distances, 00:04:02.650 --> 00:04:07.650 And I placed the Maqam in its original position where it
