On the authority of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to break his fast before praying by eating a few fresh dates.

If there were no fresh dates, then he would eat a few dried dates.

And if there were no dried dates, he would take a few sips of water.
