A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
The motives behind the claim that religion can be divided into a shell and a core.
This claim can be attributed to one of two things.
First, a binary view of matters.
And the belief that pursuing one of two things necessitates and requires neglecting the other.
While one might assume the good intentions and sound purpose of those who hold this view,
it remains a deficient perspective.
It only holds true for mutually exclusive matters.
In all other matters, there is no prohibition against combining them.
In fact, doing so may be recommended or even obligatory.
Islam has pillars, obligatory duties, and requirements.
It also has recommended acts, permissible acts, disliked acts, and forbidden acts.
Fulfilling its pillars does not in any way mean neglecting its obligatory duties and requirements.
Rather, the correct view is that the obligatory duties and requirements complement and complete the pillars.
Just as the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, directed us toward achieving the piety of the heart,
he also provided guidance on how to adopt the outward appearance and conduct,
such as shortening garments, growing the beard, and so forth.
Second, an evil intention and malicious design to dismantle Islam.
This is done through the call to adopt the spirit of the text rather than its literal wording,
under the pretext of keeping pace with the modern era.
This is the claim of the modernists, the secularists, and the esoteric sects.
Their goal is to dismantle the true Islam and escape the yoke of its obligations.
