00:00:00.430 --> 00:00:08.550
Stories of the Prophets... Stories of the Prophets, peace be upon them.

00:00:23.160 --> 00:00:28.309
The story of Moses, peace be upon him.

00:00:29.309 --> 00:00:33.299
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

00:00:34.329 --> 00:00:36.329
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation.

00:00:37.329 --> 00:00:39.329
May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad,

00:00:40.329 --> 00:00:42.329
and upon all his family and Companions.

00:00:43.329 --> 00:00:44.359
To proceed:

00:00:45.359 --> 00:00:49.780
Our discussion in the story of the Prophet of Allah, Moses, peace be upon him, had brought us

00:00:50.780 --> 00:00:52.780
to Pharaoh's execution of the magicians,

00:00:53.780 --> 00:00:57.780
his threat to the Children of Israel to slaughter their sons and let their women live,

00:00:58.780 --> 00:01:01.780
and the Children of Israel's distress over this affliction.

00:01:01.780 --> 00:01:04.969
But the question that immediately comes to mind is:

00:01:05.969 --> 00:01:08.969
Why did Pharaoh not kill Moses along with the magicians?

00:01:09.969 --> 00:01:11.969
And why did he keep saying to his chiefs:

00:01:12.969 --> 00:01:13.969
"Let me kill Moses,

00:01:14.969 --> 00:01:15.969
and let him call upon his Lord!"?

00:01:16.969 --> 00:01:21.969
“And Pharaoh said: Suffer me to kill Moses, and let him cry unto his Lord. Lo! I fear that he will alter your religion or that he will cause confusion in the land.” (40:26)

00:01:22.969 --> 00:01:23.969
Even though he was the Pharaoh of Egypt,

00:01:24.969 --> 00:01:25.969
holding all absolute power in his hands,

00:01:26.969 --> 00:01:30.969
and was fully capable of killing Moses without consulting anyone!

00:01:31.969 --> 00:01:37.129
There is no doubt that it was fear gripping Pharaoh's heart and the hearts of his entourage.

00:01:38.129 --> 00:01:40.129
For executing Moses would not resolve the dilemma;

00:01:41.129 --> 00:01:46.129
rather, it might inspire the Children of Israel and the Copts to revere him and regard him as a martyr,

00:01:47.129 --> 00:01:51.129
fueling greater zeal in their hearts for him and for the religion he brought,

00:01:52.129 --> 00:01:55.129
especially after he had publicly defeated the magicians,

00:01:56.129 --> 00:01:59.129
and the magicians had fallen down prostrate in faith.

00:01:59.129 --> 00:02:01.290
Abu al-Su'ud said in his Tafsir:

00:02:02.290 --> 00:02:05.319
"Whenever he intended to kill Moses, peace be upon him, his chiefs

00:02:06.319 --> 00:02:07.319
would dissuade him, saying:

00:02:08.319 --> 00:02:10.319
'He is not someone you should fear;

00:02:11.319 --> 00:02:13.319
he is far more insignificant and weaker than that,

00:02:14.319 --> 00:02:16.319
and is merely an ordinary magician.'

00:02:17.319 --> 00:02:18.319
And they would also say:

00:02:19.319 --> 00:02:20.319
'If you execute him,

00:02:21.319 --> 00:02:22.319
you will cast doubt into the minds of the people,

00:02:23.319 --> 00:02:26.319
and they will believe that you were incapable of refuting him with proof,

00:02:26.319 --> 00:02:29.319
and had to resort instead to the sword.'

00:02:30.349 --> 00:02:33.349
Yet what is evident from the cunning and malevolence of the accursed tyrant

00:02:34.349 --> 00:02:36.349
is that he had become completely certain that Moses was a true prophet,

00:02:37.349 --> 00:02:39.349
that what he brought were dazzling signs,

00:02:40.349 --> 00:02:41.349
and that it was not magic at all.

00:02:42.349 --> 00:02:44.349
But he feared that if he dared to kill him,

00:02:45.349 --> 00:02:46.349
he would be struck with swift destruction.

00:02:47.539 --> 00:02:50.539
Thus, his statement was merely a deception played upon his people,

00:02:51.539 --> 00:02:54.539
creating the illusion that they were the ones holding him back from killing him,

00:02:54.539 --> 00:02:56.539
and that were it not for them, he would have slain him,

00:02:57.539 --> 00:03:02.539
whereas nothing truly restrained him except the overwhelming dread within his own soul."

00:03:03.539 --> 00:03:04.770
End of his words.

00:03:05.770 --> 00:03:10.180
Pharaoh and his entourage launched a propaganda campaign,

00:03:11.180 --> 00:03:14.180
the purpose of which was to turn people away from Moses, peace be upon him,

00:03:15.180 --> 00:03:17.180
tarnish his image before everyone,

00:03:18.180 --> 00:03:20.180
cast doubt upon his message,

00:03:21.180 --> 00:03:24.180
and claim that Moses's goal was to drive the people out of Egypt,

00:03:24.180 --> 00:03:26.180
alter the religion of its inhabitants,

00:03:27.180 --> 00:03:29.180
or spread corruption throughout the land.

00:03:30.180 --> 00:03:32.180
Pharaoh treated Moses with utter contempt

00:03:33.180 --> 00:03:34.180
and fabricated outright lies against him.

00:03:35.180 --> 00:03:37.240
And although this campaign defied reason

00:03:38.240 --> 00:03:40.240
and was rejected by sound minds,

00:03:41.240 --> 00:03:44.240
it nevertheless deceived the gullible among the people.

00:03:45.240 --> 00:03:47.240
Allah Almighty said:

00:03:48.240 --> 00:03:50.340
"And Pharaoh called out among his people,

00:03:51.340 --> 00:03:53.340
“And Pharaoh caused a proclamation to be made among his people saying: O my people! Is not mine the sovereignty of Egypt and these rivers flowing under me? Can ye not then discern?” (43:51)

00:03:54.340 --> 00:03:56.340
'Does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me...

00:03:57.340 --> 00:03:59.340
“And Pharaoh caused a proclamation to be made among his people saying: O my people! Is not mine the sovereignty of Egypt and these rivers flowing under me? Can ye not then discern?” (43:51)

00:04:00.340 --> 00:04:03.340
“And Pharaoh caused a proclamation to be made among his people saying: O my people! Is not mine the sovereignty of Egypt and these rivers flowing under me? Can ye not then discern?” (43:51)

00:04:04.340 --> 00:04:06.340
Do you not then see?

00:04:07.340 --> 00:04:09.340
“I am surely better than this fellow, who is despicable and can hardly make (his meaning) plain!” (43:52)

00:04:10.340 --> 00:04:12.340
...this one who is despicable

00:04:13.340 --> 00:04:15.340
and can scarcely express himself clearly?

00:04:16.339 --> 00:04:18.339
Why then have there not been placed upon him

00:04:19.339 --> 00:04:21.339
bracelets of gold...?'"

00:04:21.339 --> 00:04:28.370
“Why, then, have armlets of gold not been set upon him, or angels sent along with him?” (43:53)

00:04:29.370 --> 00:04:32.370
"So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him.

00:04:33.370 --> 00:04:38.430
Indeed, they were a defiantly disobedient people."

00:04:39.430 --> 00:04:43.779
Part of Pharaoh's propaganda campaign

00:04:44.779 --> 00:04:45.779
to cast doubt on Moses, peace be upon him,

00:04:46.779 --> 00:04:48.779
was his command to his minister Haman:

00:04:49.779 --> 00:04:51.779
"O Haman, build for me a towering monument,

00:04:52.779 --> 00:04:54.779
that I may reach the pathways of the heavens

00:04:55.779 --> 00:04:56.779
and whatever means may lead me there,

00:04:57.779 --> 00:04:59.779
so that I may look upon the God of Moses myself;

00:05:00.779 --> 00:05:03.779
though I certainly think Moses is a liar in his claim

00:05:04.779 --> 00:05:05.779
that he has a Lord,

00:05:06.779 --> 00:05:07.779
and that He is above the heavens!"

00:05:08.779 --> 00:05:10.779
This was yet another ploy by Pharaoh

00:05:11.779 --> 00:05:13.779
to delude the people into believing that he was in the right,

00:05:14.779 --> 00:05:16.779
while Moses was promoting falsehood in his call.

00:05:18.930 --> 00:05:20.930
Pharaoh also enlisted the aid of Korah (Qarun),

00:05:20.930 --> 00:05:22.930
who was a cousin of Moses, peace be upon him,

00:05:23.930 --> 00:05:24.930
from the Children of Israel.

00:05:25.930 --> 00:05:26.930
He was an immensely wealthy man,

00:05:27.930 --> 00:05:30.930
whom Allah had bestowed with tremendous riches,

00:05:31.930 --> 00:05:33.930
to the extent that the very keys to his treasure vaults

00:05:34.930 --> 00:05:37.930
were a burden even for a band of strong men to carry.

00:05:38.930 --> 00:05:42.089
If such was the case with the keys alone,

00:05:43.089 --> 00:05:45.089
then what must the treasures themselves have been like?

00:05:46.089 --> 00:05:48.310
Because of the vast wealth he possessed,

00:05:48.310 --> 00:05:51.310
Pharaoh made him part of his inner circle, his confidants,

00:05:52.310 --> 00:05:54.310
and one of his closest companions,

00:05:55.310 --> 00:05:57.500
asking him to use his influence over the Children of Israel

00:05:58.500 --> 00:06:00.500
through his wealth and status among them

00:06:01.500 --> 00:06:02.500
so that they would abandon Moses,

00:06:03.500 --> 00:06:05.500
as part of his propaganda campaign.

00:06:06.500 --> 00:06:08.629
So Korah tyrannized the Children of Israel,

00:06:09.629 --> 00:06:11.629
using his wealth to sway them

00:06:12.629 --> 00:06:15.629
and bar them from following Moses, peace be upon him.

00:06:15.629 --> 00:06:17.629
The wise and discerning among his people advised him

00:06:18.629 --> 00:06:20.629
to practice moderation and temperance regarding this wealth,

00:06:21.629 --> 00:06:23.629
and warned him against exultant arrogance,

00:06:24.629 --> 00:06:26.629
which leads a person to forget

00:06:27.629 --> 00:06:29.629
the grace of the Bestower who granted this wealth.

00:06:30.629 --> 00:06:32.629
They counseled him to seek, through what he was given,

00:06:33.629 --> 00:06:34.629
the Home of the Hereafter,

00:06:35.629 --> 00:06:37.629
without forgetting his lawful share of the world.

00:06:38.629 --> 00:06:40.730
But Korah's reply was a single statement

00:06:41.730 --> 00:06:44.730
carrying every expression of arrogance and corruption.

00:06:45.730 --> 00:06:46.730
He said:

00:06:47.730 --> 00:06:50.730
“He said: I have been given it only on account of knowledge I possess. Knew he not that Allah had destroyed already of the generations before him men who were mightier than him in strength and greater in respect of following? The guilty are not questioned of their sins.” (28:78)

00:06:51.730 --> 00:06:56.980
One day, Korah came out before his people in his full finery,

00:06:57.980 --> 00:06:59.980
and the hearts of some of the people were captivated,

00:07:00.980 --> 00:07:03.980
wishing they had been given the like of what Korah had received,

00:07:04.980 --> 00:07:06.980
feeling that he was in immense bliss.

00:07:07.980 --> 00:07:12.069
But those endowed with knowledge and faith who heard them responded:

00:07:13.069 --> 00:07:15.069
"Woe to you, O deluded ones!

00:07:15.069 --> 00:07:16.069
Beware of this trial,

00:07:17.069 --> 00:07:18.069
fear Allah,

00:07:19.069 --> 00:07:21.069
and know that the reward with Allah

00:07:22.069 --> 00:07:23.069
is far better than this worldly adornment."

00:07:24.069 --> 00:07:28.420
Moses, peace be upon him, would counsel Korah whenever he met him,

00:07:29.420 --> 00:07:31.420
calling him to Allah Almighty

00:07:32.420 --> 00:07:33.420
and to abandon the worship of Pharaoh,

00:07:34.420 --> 00:07:37.420
yet he met with nothing from him but rejection and obstinacy.

00:07:38.490 --> 00:07:40.490
When Korah grew weary of Moses,

00:07:41.490 --> 00:07:44.490
he devised a plot to turn the people away from him:

00:07:45.490 --> 00:07:47.490
he gave money to a prostitute

00:07:48.490 --> 00:07:50.490
so that she would accuse Moses, peace be upon him,

00:07:51.490 --> 00:07:52.490
in the presence of a gathering of people, saying:

00:07:53.490 --> 00:07:55.490
"You did such and such with me."

00:07:56.649 --> 00:07:59.649
The woman made that accusation against him in front of the people,

00:08:00.649 --> 00:08:02.649
so Moses, peace be upon him, supplicated his Lord,

00:08:03.709 --> 00:08:05.709
then turned to her and adjured her by oath:

00:08:06.709 --> 00:08:08.709
"Who prompted you to say this,

00:08:09.709 --> 00:08:10.709
and who drove you to do it?"

00:08:11.779 --> 00:08:12.779
The woman began to tremble,

00:08:12.779 --> 00:08:15.779
and confessed that Korah was the one who had induced her to do so,

00:08:16.779 --> 00:08:20.779
giving her money in order to publicly disgrace him.

00:08:21.779 --> 00:08:24.779
Thereupon, Moses, peace be upon him, prayed against Korah,

00:08:25.779 --> 00:08:26.779
and Allah revealed to him:

00:08:27.779 --> 00:08:30.779
"I have commanded the earth to obey you concerning him."

00:08:31.779 --> 00:08:34.779
Moses commanded the earth to swallow him and his dwelling,

00:08:35.779 --> 00:08:38.779
and his dwelling was a magnificent mansion,

00:08:39.779 --> 00:08:40.779
the likes of which people had never seen.

00:08:41.779 --> 00:08:47.000
Korah had come out before the people in his full pomp and splendor,

00:08:48.000 --> 00:08:50.000
and Allah caused the earth to swallow him whole.

00:08:51.190 --> 00:08:53.190
Just like that, in the blink of an eye,

00:08:54.190 --> 00:08:56.190
the earth swallowed him and swallowed his home,

00:08:57.190 --> 00:08:59.190
and he perished, helpless and utterly powerless,

00:09:00.190 --> 00:09:01.190
with no one to aid him,

00:09:02.190 --> 00:09:05.190
nor could he save himself through status or wealth.

00:09:06.639 --> 00:09:07.639
Allah Almighty said:

00:09:08.639 --> 00:09:13.740
“Now Korah was of Moses' folk, but he oppressed them; and We gave him so much treasure that the stores thereof would verily have been a burden for a troop of mighty men. When his own folk said unto him: Exult not; lo! Allah loveth not the exultant;” (28:76)

00:09:14.740 --> 00:09:15.740
"So he oppressed them..."

00:09:16.740 --> 00:09:19.740
“Now Korah was of Moses' folk, but he oppressed them; and We gave him so much treasure that the stores thereof would verily have been a burden for a troop of mighty men. When his own folk said unto him: Exult not; lo! Allah loveth not the exultant;” (28:76)

00:09:20.740 --> 00:09:25.740
“Now Korah was of Moses' folk, but he oppressed them; and We gave him so much treasure that the stores thereof would verily have been a burden for a troop of mighty men. When his own folk said unto him: Exult not; lo! Allah loveth not the exultant;” (28:76)

00:09:26.740 --> 00:09:28.740
“Now Korah was of Moses' folk, but he oppressed them; and We gave him so much treasure that the stores thereof would verily have been a burden for a troop of mighty men. When his own folk said unto him: Exult not; lo! Allah loveth not the exultant;” (28:76)

00:09:29.740 --> 00:09:33.740
“Now Korah was of Moses' folk, but he oppressed them; and We gave him so much treasure that the stores thereof would verily have been a burden for a troop of mighty men. When his own folk said unto him: Exult not; lo! Allah loveth not the exultant;” (28:76)

00:09:33.740 --> 00:09:38.740
“But seek the abode of the Hereafter in that which Allah hath given thee and neglect not thy portion of the world, and be thou kind even as Allah hath been kind to thee, and seek not corruption in the earth; lo! Allah loveth not corrupters,” (28:77)

00:09:39.740 --> 00:09:42.740
“But seek the abode of the Hereafter in that which Allah hath given thee and neglect not thy portion of the world, and be thou kind even as Allah hath been kind to thee, and seek not corruption in the earth; lo! Allah loveth not corrupters,” (28:77)

00:09:43.740 --> 00:09:48.740
“But seek the abode of the Hereafter in that which Allah hath given thee and neglect not thy portion of the world, and be thou kind even as Allah hath been kind to thee, and seek not corruption in the earth; lo! Allah loveth not corrupters,” (28:77)

00:09:49.740 --> 00:09:56.740
“But seek the abode of the Hereafter in that which Allah hath given thee and neglect not thy portion of the world, and be thou kind even as Allah hath been kind to thee, and seek not corruption in the earth; lo! Allah loveth not corrupters,” (28:77)

00:09:57.740 --> 00:10:03.740
“He said: I have been given it only on account of knowledge I possess. Knew he not that Allah had destroyed already of the generations before him men who were mightier than him in strength and greater in respect of following? The guilty are not questioned of their sins.” (28:78)

00:10:04.740 --> 00:10:14.740
“He said: I have been given it only on account of knowledge I possess. Knew he not that Allah had destroyed already of the generations before him men who were mightier than him in strength and greater in respect of following? The guilty are not questioned of their sins.” (28:78)

00:10:15.740 --> 00:10:19.740
“He said: I have been given it only on account of knowledge I possess. Knew he not that Allah had destroyed already of the generations before him men who were mightier than him in strength and greater in respect of following? The guilty are not questioned of their sins.” (28:78)

00:10:20.740 --> 00:10:25.740
“He said: I have been given it only on account of knowledge I possess. Knew he not that Allah had destroyed already of the generations before him men who were mightier than him in strength and greater in respect of following? The guilty are not questioned of their sins.” (28:78)

00:10:26.740 --> 00:10:29.740
“Then went he forth before his people in his pomp. Those who were desirous of the life of the world said: Ah, would that we had the like of what hath been given unto Korah! Lo! he is lord of rare good fortune.” (28:79)

00:10:30.740 --> 00:10:41.740
“Then went he forth before his people in his pomp. Those who were desirous of the life of the world said: Ah, would that we had the like of what hath been given unto Korah! Lo! he is lord of rare good fortune.” (28:79)

00:10:42.740 --> 00:10:50.740
"And those who were given knowledge said, 'Woe to you! The reward of Allah is better for whoever believes and does righteousness.'"

00:10:51.740 --> 00:10:54.740
“But those who had been given knowledge said: Woe unto you! The reward of Allah for him who believeth and doeth right is better, and only the steadfast will obtain it.” (28:80)

00:10:54.740 --> 00:11:13.740
“So We caused the earth to swallow him and his dwelling-place. Then he had no host to help him against Allah, nor was he of those who can save themselves.” (28:81)

00:11:14.740 --> 00:11:20.740
“And morning found those who had coveted his place but yesterday crying: Ah, welladay! Allah enlargeth the provision for whom He will of His slaves and straiteneth it (for whom He will). If Allah had not been gracious unto us He would have caused it to swallow us (also). Ah, welladay! the disbelievers never prosper.” (28:82)

00:11:21.740 --> 00:11:31.740

00:11:32.740 --> 00:11:43.740
"'Had Allah not conferred His favor upon us, He would have caused the earth to swallow us. Ah, indeed the disbelievers never succeed!'"

00:11:44.740 --> 00:11:53.370
None of the propaganda campaigns succeeded in deterring Moses, peace be upon him, from his mission or making the people abandon him;

00:11:54.370 --> 00:12:04.370
his followers increased day by day, and Pharaoh's image deteriorated before the masses, threatening his throne and dominion.

00:12:05.370 --> 00:12:09.590
At that point, Pharaoh announced to those around him his resolve to kill Moses.

00:12:10.590 --> 00:12:14.850
Then a believing man from the family of Pharaoh,

00:12:15.850 --> 00:12:18.850
who is said to have been his cousin and had been concealing his faith, spoke up.

00:12:19.879 --> 00:12:21.879
He spoke out, denouncing Pharaoh and his people:

00:12:22.879 --> 00:12:29.879
"How can you deem it lawful to kill a man for no offense against you other than saying, 'My Lord is Allah,'

00:12:30.879 --> 00:12:35.879
when he has already brought you clear proofs from his Lord confirming the truth of what he says?

00:12:36.879 --> 00:12:41.879
If Moses is a liar, the burden of his lie will fall upon him alone;

00:12:41.879 --> 00:12:47.879
but if he is truthful, some of what he warns you of will surely strike you!

00:12:49.100 --> 00:12:53.100
“O my people! Yours is the kingdom to-day, ye being uppermost in the land. But who would save us from the wrath of Allah should it reach us? Pharaoh said: I do but show you what I think, and I do but guide you to wise policy.” (40:29)

00:12:54.100 --> 00:12:59.100
Who then will protect us from the punishment of Allah if it comes upon us because of killing Moses?"

00:13:00.330 --> 00:13:04.330
Pharaoh was taken aback by the man's words and said to those around him:

00:13:05.360 --> 00:13:07.360
"The decision is mine, and the judgment is mine alone;

00:13:08.360 --> 00:13:12.360
I have resolved to kill Moses to avert evil and corruption,

00:13:13.360 --> 00:13:16.360
and I only guide you to what is right and sound."

00:13:18.419 --> 00:13:23.419
The believer of Pharaoh's family continued to advise his people, warning and cautioning them,

00:13:24.419 --> 00:13:28.419
explaining to them that he was only calling them to the path of salvation,

00:13:29.419 --> 00:13:31.419
while they were calling him to the path of the Fire.

00:13:31.419 --> 00:13:35.509
When they refused to listen to his words and resolved to kill him,

00:13:36.509 --> 00:13:37.509
he said to them:

00:13:38.539 --> 00:13:44.539
“And ye will remember what I say unto you. I confide my cause unto Allah. Lo! Allah is Seer of (His) slaves.” (40:44)

00:13:45.539 --> 00:13:50.860
“And ye will remember what I say unto you. I confide my cause unto Allah. Lo! Allah is Seer of (His) slaves.” (40:44)

00:13:51.860 --> 00:13:55.860
“So Allah warded off from him the evils which they plotted, while a dreadful doom encompassed Pharaoh's folk,” (40:45)

00:13:55.860 --> 00:14:01.860
“So Allah warded off from him the evils which they plotted, while a dreadful doom encompassed Pharaoh's folk,” (40:45)

00:14:02.860 --> 00:14:05.500
He then fled from among them,

00:14:06.500 --> 00:14:07.500
seeking refuge in the mountain.

00:14:08.500 --> 00:14:10.500
They pursued him but could not find him,

00:14:11.500 --> 00:14:15.500
and Allah saved him alongside Moses, peace be upon him, and the Children of Israel.

00:14:16.500 --> 00:14:19.820
The call of Moses, peace be upon him, bore fruit,

00:14:20.820 --> 00:14:22.820
as the Children of Israel believed in him,

00:14:23.820 --> 00:14:24.820
along with a group from among the people of Pharaoh,

00:14:24.820 --> 00:14:29.820
though they were in constant fear that Pharaoh and their chiefs would persecute them and force them from their religion.

00:14:30.820 --> 00:14:32.820
So Moses, peace be upon him, said to them:

00:14:33.820 --> 00:14:38.820
“And Moses said: O my people! If ye have believed in Allah then put trust in Him, if ye have indeed surrendered (unto Him)!” (10:84)

00:14:39.820 --> 00:14:42.820
“They said: In Allah we put trust. Our Lord! Oh, make us not a lure for the wrongdoing folk;” (10:85)

00:14:43.820 --> 00:14:47.820
“They said: In Allah we put trust. Our Lord! Oh, make us not a lure for the wrongdoing folk;” (10:85)

00:14:48.820 --> 00:14:51.820
“And, of Thy mercy, save us from the folk that disbelieve.” (10:86)

00:14:52.820 --> 00:14:57.970
Among those who submitted to Islam and followed Moses, peace be upon him,

00:14:58.970 --> 00:15:01.970
was Pharaoh's wife, Asiyah bint Muzahim,

00:15:02.970 --> 00:15:07.970
who had once said of Moses: "Do not kill him; perhaps he will be of benefit to us,"

00:15:08.970 --> 00:15:10.970
and Allah indeed benefited her through him.

00:15:11.970 --> 00:15:13.970
She had also said: "He is a comfort of the eye for me,"

00:15:14.970 --> 00:15:19.970
and Allah delighted her eyes with him after she saw him as a noble prophet and messenger.

00:15:20.970 --> 00:15:24.000
At the time of the contest between Moses and the magicians,

00:15:25.000 --> 00:15:26.000
she kept asking who had triumphed,

00:15:27.000 --> 00:15:28.000
and when she was told:

00:15:29.000 --> 00:15:30.000
"Moses and Aaron have triumphed,"

00:15:31.000 --> 00:15:32.000
she declared:

00:15:33.000 --> 00:15:35.000
"I believe in the Lord of Moses and Aaron."

00:15:36.100 --> 00:15:38.100
When Pharaoh learned of her conversion to Islam,

00:15:39.100 --> 00:15:41.100
he came out to his nobles and said to them,

00:15:42.100 --> 00:15:44.100
"What do you know of Asiyah bint Muzahim?"

00:15:45.100 --> 00:15:46.100
They praised her highly.

00:15:47.100 --> 00:15:48.100
So he said to them,

00:15:48.100 --> 00:15:50.100
"She worships a lord other than me."

00:15:51.100 --> 00:15:52.100
They said to him,

00:15:53.100 --> 00:15:54.100
"Kill her."

00:15:55.100 --> 00:15:57.129
So he drove four pegs into the ground for her,

00:15:58.129 --> 00:16:01.129
and bound her hands and feet to the stakes.

00:16:02.129 --> 00:16:03.129
She was tortured under the blazing sun,

00:16:04.129 --> 00:16:06.129
but whenever they walked away from her,

00:16:07.129 --> 00:16:08.129
the angels would shade her.

00:16:09.129 --> 00:16:11.289
And she would supplicate, saying:

00:16:12.289 --> 00:16:14.289
“And Allah citeth an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh when she said: My Lord! Build for me a home with thee in the Garden, and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from evil-doing folk;” (66:11)

00:16:15.289 --> 00:16:16.450
The scholars said:

00:16:16.450 --> 00:16:17.450
Out of the brilliance of her intellect,

00:16:18.450 --> 00:16:20.450
she chose the Neighbor before the house.

00:16:21.450 --> 00:16:22.450
Allah Almighty said:

00:16:23.799 --> 00:16:26.860
“And Allah citeth an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh when she said: My Lord! Build for me a home with thee in the Garden, and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from evil-doing folk;” (66:11)

00:16:27.860 --> 00:16:28.860
"...the wife of Pharaoh,

00:16:29.860 --> 00:16:30.860
when she said,

00:16:31.860 --> 00:16:34.860
“And Allah citeth an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh when she said: My Lord! Build for me a home with thee in the Garden, and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from evil-doing folk;” (66:11)

00:16:35.860 --> 00:16:37.860
'...a home near You in Paradise,

00:16:38.860 --> 00:16:39.860
and save me...

00:16:40.860 --> 00:16:43.860
“And Allah citeth an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh when she said: My Lord! Build for me a home with thee in the Garden, and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from evil-doing folk;” (66:11)

00:16:44.860 --> 00:16:45.860
and save me

00:16:46.860 --> 00:16:49.860
from the wrongdoing people.'"

00:16:50.860 --> 00:16:54.210
Pharaoh sent men to her,

00:16:55.210 --> 00:16:56.210
and said,

00:16:57.210 --> 00:16:59.210
"Look for the largest boulder you can find;

00:17:00.210 --> 00:17:02.210
if she persists in following Moses,

00:17:03.210 --> 00:17:04.210
crush her with it.

00:17:05.210 --> 00:17:06.210
But if she recants her words,

00:17:07.210 --> 00:17:09.210
unbind her and bring her to me."

00:17:10.210 --> 00:17:11.269
When they approached her,

00:17:12.269 --> 00:17:14.269
she raised her gaze to the heavens,

00:17:15.269 --> 00:17:17.269
and saw her home in Paradise.

00:17:18.269 --> 00:17:22.269
Thus she stood firm in faith and in following Moses, peace be upon him.

00:17:23.269 --> 00:17:24.269
Then Allah took her soul,

00:17:25.269 --> 00:17:29.269
so they cast the boulder onto a body devoid of life.

00:17:31.329 --> 00:17:35.329
The two Shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim) narrated from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said:

00:17:36.329 --> 00:17:39.329
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

00:17:40.329 --> 00:17:41.329
"Many men attained perfection,

00:17:42.329 --> 00:17:44.329
but none among women attained perfection

00:17:45.329 --> 00:17:47.329
except Asiyah the wife of Pharaoh,

00:17:47.329 --> 00:17:49.329
and Mary the daughter of 'Imran.

00:17:50.329 --> 00:17:52.329
And the superiority of 'A'ishah over other women

00:17:53.329 --> 00:17:55.329
is like the superiority of Tharid over all other food."

00:17:56.329 --> 00:17:58.359
It has also been related in another wording:

00:17:59.359 --> 00:18:00.359
"Many men attained perfection,

00:18:01.359 --> 00:18:04.359
but none among women attained perfection except four:

00:18:05.359 --> 00:18:06.359
Asiyah bint Muzahim,

00:18:07.359 --> 00:18:08.359
the wife of Pharaoh;

00:18:09.359 --> 00:18:10.359
Mary the daughter of 'Imran;

00:18:11.359 --> 00:18:13.359
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid;

00:18:14.359 --> 00:18:16.359
and Fatimah bint Muhammad."

00:18:18.190 --> 00:18:20.190
The hairdresser of Pharaoh's daughter also accepted Islam

00:18:21.190 --> 00:18:23.190
and followed Moses, peace be upon him.

00:18:24.190 --> 00:18:29.190
Regarding her story, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

00:18:30.190 --> 00:18:33.289
"On the night I was taken on the Night Journey,

00:18:34.289 --> 00:18:36.289
a pleasant fragrance came upon me.

00:18:37.289 --> 00:18:39.349
I said, 'O Gabriel,

00:18:40.349 --> 00:18:42.349
what is this delightful fragrance?'

00:18:43.349 --> 00:18:44.349
He replied,

00:18:44.349 --> 00:18:48.349
'This is the fragrance of the hairdresser of Pharaoh's daughter and her children.'

00:18:49.349 --> 00:18:50.349
He said:

00:18:51.349 --> 00:18:52.349
I asked, 'And what is her story?'

00:18:53.349 --> 00:18:54.349
He said:

00:18:55.349 --> 00:18:57.349
'While she was combing the hair of Pharaoh's daughter one day,

00:18:58.349 --> 00:19:00.349
the comb suddenly fell from her hands—

00:19:01.349 --> 00:19:02.450
meaning the hair-comb—

00:19:03.450 --> 00:19:05.509
so she said, "In the name of Allah."

00:19:06.509 --> 00:19:07.509
Pharaoh's daughter asked her,

00:19:08.509 --> 00:19:09.509
"My father?"

00:19:10.509 --> 00:19:11.509
She replied, "No,

00:19:11.509 --> 00:19:13.509
rather, my Lord and your father's Lord is Allah."

00:19:14.670 --> 00:19:15.670
She said,

00:19:16.670 --> 00:19:17.670
"Shall I inform him of that?"

00:19:18.670 --> 00:19:19.670
She replied, "Yes."

00:19:20.670 --> 00:19:21.670
So she informed him,

00:19:22.670 --> 00:19:23.670
and he summoned her and said,

00:19:24.670 --> 00:19:25.670
"O so-and-so,

00:19:26.670 --> 00:19:27.670
do you have a lord other than me?"

00:19:28.670 --> 00:19:29.670
She said, "Yes,

00:19:30.670 --> 00:19:31.670
my Lord and your Lord is Allah."

00:19:32.670 --> 00:19:34.670
So he ordered a copper cow—

00:19:35.670 --> 00:19:38.670
that is, a cauldron so large it could hold an entire cow—

00:19:39.670 --> 00:19:40.670
to be heated,

00:19:41.670 --> 00:19:43.670
so that she and her children would be thrown into it.

00:19:44.769 --> 00:19:45.769
She said to him,

00:19:46.829 --> 00:19:47.829
"I have a request of you."

00:19:48.930 --> 00:19:49.930
He asked,

00:19:50.930 --> 00:19:52.089
"And what is your request?"

00:19:53.089 --> 00:19:54.089
She said,

00:19:55.089 --> 00:19:59.089
"I would like you to gather my bones and the bones of my children in a single cloth and bury us."

00:20:00.220 --> 00:20:01.220
He said,

00:20:02.220 --> 00:20:04.220
"That is an obligation upon us for you."

00:20:05.440 --> 00:20:06.440
He said:

00:20:07.440 --> 00:20:08.440
Then he ordered that her children

00:20:09.440 --> 00:20:11.440
be thrown in before her eyes, one by one,

00:20:12.440 --> 00:20:15.440
until only an infant nursing at her breast remained.

00:20:16.440 --> 00:20:18.440
She seemed to hesitate on his account,

00:20:19.440 --> 00:20:20.539
so he spoke and said,

00:20:21.539 --> 00:20:22.539
"O my mother,

00:20:23.539 --> 00:20:24.539
jump in,

00:20:25.539 --> 00:20:27.539
for the punishment of this world is lighter than the punishment of the Hereafter."

00:20:28.700 --> 00:20:29.700
So she jumped in.'"

00:20:30.759 --> 00:20:31.759
Narrated by Ahmad.

00:20:34.460 --> 00:20:36.460
The rest of the hadith will follow, Allah willing.

00:20:37.460 --> 00:20:38.460
And Allah knows best.

00:20:39.460 --> 00:20:40.460
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

00:20:40.460 --> 00:20:43.460
May Allah send peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad,

00:20:44.460 --> 00:20:47.460
and upon all his family and Companions.

00:20:48.460 --> 00:20:52.019
You were listening to Stories of the Prophets.
