A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
The relationship between governance and the oneness of Allah (Tawhid).
Just as Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, is exalted above having a child,
And exalted above having a partner worshipped alongside Him,
So too is He exalted above having any ruler or legislator alongside Him who judges by other than His law.
For as the Almighty says:
“Say: I am only a mortal like you. My Lord inspireth in me that your Allah is only One Allah. And whoever hopeth for the meeting with his Lord, let him do righteous work, and make none sharer of the worship due unto his Lord.” (18:110)

He has said:
“Say: Allah is Best Aware how long they tarried. His is the Invisible of the heavens and the earth. How clear of sight is He and keen of hearing! They have no protecting friend beside Him, and He maketh none to share in His government.” (18:26)
And in the recitation of Ibn 'Amir:
"And do not associate [anyone in His judgment]," in the imperative form of prohibition.
For His judgment is like His worship.
Worship belongs to Him alone.
And judgment belongs to Him alone.
This is the requirement of His greatness and majesty over all His creation.
“(It is said unto them): This is (your plight) because, when Allah only was invoked, ye disbelieved, but when some partner was ascribed to Him ye were believing. But the command belongeth only to Allah, the Sublime, the Majestic.” (40:12)
And the saying of Allah the Almighty:
“Lo! your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, then mounted He the Throne. He covereth the night with the day, which is in haste to follow it, and hath made the sun and the moon and the stars subservient by His command. His verily is all creation and commandment. Blessed be Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!” (7:54)
Points to the fact that Allah alone possesses both the decrees of destiny and the laws of religion.
For His saying:
"His is the creation,"
Means He is the Creator of all created beings.
This encompasses His universal, predestined decrees.
And His saying:
"And the command,"
Encompasses His religious, legislative rulings.
