Among the aesthetic beauties of the Prophetic biography (Seerah).
The hadith of the countenance.
His face would radiate with modesty and composure, expressing what he disliked.
Yet, out of modesty, he would not speak harshly, nor would he frequently rebuke; rather, his expression would change and his features would tighten.
Thus, they would know that he was displeased or angry.
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says:
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was more modest than a virgin in her private quarters.
If he saw something he disliked, we would recognize it in his face.
This is because she has not mingled with anyone and remains modest and gentle.
She is soft-spoken, unaccustomed to harshness, and barely acts or speaks.
Therefore, she is described as possessing dignity, modesty, and intense shyness.
Likewise, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was even more so in shunning vile things.
And in distancing himself from reprehensible matters and those who commit them.
If he disliked something, he would express it through his face and his conduct.
Consequently, his Companions and those present with him would be deterred.
Modesty is a great moral conduct.
It inspires one to do good and abandon evil, and it is among the traits of faith.
The comparison of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to the modesty of a virgin in her quarters,
Is merely for the sake of approximation and understanding.
A person lives modestly in goodness; the branch remains as long as the bark remains.
By Allah, there is no good in life or in this world if modesty departs.
This modesty adorns the personality and refines conduct.
It leads to piety, brevity of speech, and avoiding unnecessary interference.
It increases chastity and self-discipline.
This was the case with the Prophet (peace be upon him),
Unless the sacred limits of Allah were violated or the laws were undermined.
If the sacred boundaries were transgressed, his anger would flare and his rebuke would intensify.
He would act in accordance with his station, guiding those who needed correction.
And holding them to the law of Allah the Exalted.
In this is an indication of the virtue of modesty.
And that it is a praiseworthy trait.
As long as it does not lead to weakness and frailty.
For then it is not modesty, but rather weakness and incapacity.
And Allah is the Grantor of success.
