Everyone who obeys the Lord dissolves into the sweetest feeling.
Would you accept it for your mother?
These are the teachings of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
To a young man who came seeking permission to commit adultery.
It is a crime of grave consequence.
It strikes at the very heart of society.
What is particularly noteworthy
is what the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, did
by stirring the sense of protective jealousy within this young man.
For just as he feels protective jealousy,
so too do others feel it.
This is the primary remedy for such a sin.
For with a heart filled with faith and an active sense of honor,
a person stands before these sacred boundaries and does not violate them.
On the authority of Abu Umama, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
A young man came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and said:
"O Messenger of Allah,
grant me permission to commit adultery."
The people turned toward him and rebuked him,
saying, "Stop! Stop!"
But the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to him,
"Come closer."
He came close to him.
He said, "Sit down."
Then the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
"Would you like it for your mother?"
He said, "No, by Allah,
may Allah make me a ransom for you."
He said,
"Neither do people like it for their mothers."
He said,
"Would you like it for your daughter?"
He said,
"No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah,
may Allah make me a ransom for you."
He said,
"Neither do people like it for their daughters."
He said,
"Would you like it for your sister?"
He said,
"No, by Allah,
may Allah make me a ransom for you."
He said,
"Neither do people like it for their sisters."
He said,
"Would you like it for your paternal aunt?"
He said,
"No, by Allah,
may Allah make me a ransom for you."
He said,
"Neither do people like it for their paternal aunts."
He said,
"Would you like it for your maternal aunt?"
He said,
"No, by Allah,
may Allah make me a ransom for you."
He said,
"Neither do people like it for their maternal aunts."
He then placed his hand upon him and said:
"O Allah, forgive his sin, purify his heart, and guard his chastity."
After that, the young man never turned his attention to such things again.
Today, we are in need of this Prophetic method of upbringing,
with the rise of temptations and the ease of slipping into the mire of desire.
It has been mentioned in a hadith that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
"Allah marvels at a young man who has no inclination toward youthful folly,"
meaning he has no tendency toward base desires.
It is rare to find a young man standing firm in the face of trials.
That is difficult.
Therefore, Allah the Almighty marvels at a young man who has no lapse into the forbidden.
Hence, the young man who remains firm and patient in an age of trials deserves
to be among those seven whom Allah will shade in His shade
on the day when there is no shade but His.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
"...and a young man who is tempted by a woman of status and beauty,
but says: 'I fear Allah.'"
So, be gentle with the youth,
for they are the charge of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
He has indeed enjoined us to treat the youth with goodness.
And so that chastity is not assassinated in this age of trials,
let us encourage the youth toward the completion of their faith (marriage).
And let us call upon guardians to facilitate the matters of marriage
before every weak and tempted soul crosses the red lines,
and the forbidden occurs.
For no one would accept it for his mother,
and no one would accept it for society as a whole.
The greatest happiness is in the hearts.
Draw ever closer to the Most Merciful,
so that joy may embrace you.
Attach your soul to your Lord,
and fill the surroundings with light.
Everyone who obeys the Lord
dissolves into the sweetest feeling.
There is darkness, then light,
and life thereafter.
If Allah wills a thing, He says to it, "Be," and it is.
