A hadith and commentary. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Recite the two radiant ones (al-Zahrawayn): Surah al-Baqarah and Surah Al 'Imran, for they will come on the Day of Resurrection like two clouds, or like two shades, or like two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading on behalf of those who recited them." "Recite Surah al-Baqarah, for holding fast to it is a blessing, abandoning it is a cause of regret, and the sorcerers cannot withstand it." Narrated by Muslim. Commentary: Ibn al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy on him, stated in Zad al-Masir: By "the two radiant ones," he meant the two luminous ones. It is said of anything that is luminous that it is "zahir." And "ghayayah" refers to anything that casts a shadow over a person above their head, like a cloud. The meaning of "firqan" is two groups or sections. And "sawwaf" means those lined up and joined together to provide shade for their reciter. And "al-batalah" means the sorcerers.
