The Forty Hadiths of al-Nawawi
On the authority of Abu Mas'ud 'Uqbah ibn 'Amr al-Ansari al-Badri, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
"Among the words of the early prophecy that have reached the people is this:
'If you feel no shame, then do as you wish.'"
It was recorded by al-Bukhari.
This hadith clarifies that modesty is a noble trait among the characteristics of the prophets.
It serves as a standard that regulates human behavior.
For modesty prevents a person from falling into sins and shameful deeds.
The meaning of the hadith is that whoever loses their sense of modesty has nothing left to deter them from evil.
Consequently, they fall into sins without fear or shame.
Indeed, modesty is a sign of a living heart and the perfection of faith.
It compels the Muslim to perform good deeds and abandon what is reprehensible.
Because whoever feels shame before Allah monitors their actions and rectifies their conduct.
