Surah al-'Asr.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
By the passage of time.
“Lo! man is a state of loss,” (103:2)
Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds.
And advised each other to truth.
And advised each other to patience.
Our Lord swears by the 'Asr (time).
'Asr is a name for time (al-dahr).
It refers to the late afternoon, the night, and the day.
Indeed, the son of Adam is in a state of ruin and loss.
Except for those who believed in Allah, affirmed His oneness, and performed righteous deeds.
They fulfilled the obligatory duties incumbent upon them.
And they avoided the acts of disobedience that He forbade them from.
They advised one another to adhere to acting upon what Allah revealed in His Book regarding His commands.
And to avoid what He forbade therein.
And they advised one another to be patient in performing acts of obedience to Allah.
