00:00:16.140 --> 00:00:23.670 I am a female Companion from the Banu Makhzum tribe of Makkah. 00:00:23.670 --> 00:00:28.800 I married my cousin, who was a righteous man. 00:00:28.800 --> 00:00:31.899 When we intended to migrate to Madinah, 00:00:31.899 --> 00:00:34.899 my husband prepared a camel for me. 00:00:34.899 --> 00:00:36.899 He helped me mount it, 00:00:36.899 --> 00:00:39.899 and carried my son in my lap. 00:00:39.899 --> 00:00:42.899 Then he set out with me, leading the camel. 00:00:42.899 --> 00:00:47.020 When the men of my tribe, the Banu Makhzum, saw him, 00:00:47.020 --> 00:00:49.020 they confronted him and said, 00:00:49.020 --> 00:00:52.020 "You have managed to overcome us regarding yourself, 00:00:52.020 --> 00:00:55.020 but do you think we will let you take our companion here 00:00:55.020 --> 00:00:59.020 and travel with her through the lands?" 00:00:59.020 --> 00:01:02.020 They snatched the camel’s halter from his hand, 00:01:02.020 --> 00:01:06.019 and took me from him against my will and his. 00:01:06.019 --> 00:01:11.090 So my husband departed for Madinah, migrating alone. 00:01:11.090 --> 00:01:15.090 When the tribe of my husband, the Banu 'Abd al-Asad, learned of this, 00:01:15.090 --> 00:01:17.090 they were enraged and said, 00:01:17.090 --> 00:01:21.090 "By Allah, we will not leave our son with her 00:01:21.090 --> 00:01:24.120 since you have taken her away from our companion." 00:01:24.120 --> 00:01:26.120 They went to them, 00:01:26.120 --> 00:01:28.120 and they pulled my son between them 00:01:28.120 --> 00:01:30.120 until they dislocated his arm. 00:01:30.120 --> 00:01:33.120 The Banu 'Abd al-Asad took him away, 00:01:33.120 --> 00:01:36.120 and the Banu Makhzum kept me detained with them. 00:01:36.120 --> 00:01:39.120 Thus, they separated me from my husband, 00:01:39.120 --> 00:01:42.120 and from my son. 00:01:42.120 --> 00:01:45.120 My heart was nearly breaking with grief, 00:01:45.120 --> 00:01:48.120 and I could no longer bear the patience. 00:01:48.120 --> 00:01:51.120 I would go out every morning, 00:01:51.120 --> 00:01:53.120 and sit at al-Abtah, 00:01:53.120 --> 00:01:56.120 weeping until evening fell. 00:01:57.120 --> 00:02:02.120 I remained in this state for a year, or nearly so, 00:02:02.120 --> 00:02:06.120 until a man from my cousins passed by me. 00:02:06.120 --> 00:02:09.120 He saw my condition and felt pity for me, 00:02:09.120 --> 00:02:11.120 so he said to the Banu Makhzum, 00:02:11.120 --> 00:02:14.120 "Will you not have mercy on this poor woman? 00:02:14.120 --> 00:02:19.120 You have separated her from her husband and her child. 00:02:19.120 --> 00:02:21.120 What is your business with her?" 00:02:21.120 --> 00:02:24.120 They softened toward me and said, 00:02:24.120 --> 00:02:27.219 "Join your husband if you wish." 00:02:27.219 --> 00:02:30.219 Then he spoke to the Banu 'Abd al-Asad as well, 00:02:30.219 --> 00:02:34.020 and they returned my son to me. 00:02:34.020 --> 00:02:36.020 I prepared my camel, 00:02:36.020 --> 00:02:40.020 took my son and placed him in my lap, 00:02:40.020 --> 00:02:43.020 and set out, seeking my husband in Madinah. 00:02:43.020 --> 00:02:46.020 I had no one from Allah’s creation with me, 00:02:46.020 --> 00:02:49.110 nor did I know the way. 00:02:49.110 --> 00:02:52.110 When I reached al-Tan'im, 00:02:52.110 --> 00:02:55.110 I met 'Uthman ibn Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), 00:02:55.110 --> 00:02:58.110 who was a polytheist at that time. 00:02:58.110 --> 00:03:02.139 He asked me, "Where are you going, O servant of Allah?" 00:03:02.139 --> 00:03:06.270 I replied, "I am seeking my husband in Madinah." 00:03:06.270 --> 00:03:09.270 He asked, "Is there no one with you?" 00:03:09.270 --> 00:03:12.270 I said, "No, by Allah, 00:03:12.270 --> 00:03:15.270 except Allah and this son of mine." 00:03:15.270 --> 00:03:19.300 He said, "By Allah, you cannot be left alone." 00:03:19.300 --> 00:03:21.430 He took the camel’s halter, 00:03:21.430 --> 00:03:25.430 and set out with me until he brought me to Madinah. 00:03:25.430 --> 00:03:29.430 He said, "Your husband is in this village," 00:03:29.430 --> 00:03:32.430 and then he returned to Makkah. 00:03:32.430 --> 00:03:34.500 I entered Madinah, 00:03:34.500 --> 00:03:37.500 and Allah reunited me with my husband. 00:03:37.500 --> 00:03:40.979 During the Battle of Uhud, 00:03:40.979 --> 00:03:42.979 my husband was wounded, 00:03:42.979 --> 00:03:44.979 and I began to nurse him, 00:03:44.979 --> 00:03:47.979 but his time came and he passed away. 00:03:47.979 --> 00:03:49.979 I recited the prayer of patience (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un), 00:03:49.979 --> 00:03:54.979 and said as the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught me: 00:03:54.979 --> 00:03:57.979 "O Allah, reward me in my affliction, 00:03:57.979 --> 00:04:00.979 and replace it for me with something better." 00:04:00.979 --> 00:04:04.139 Then I said to myself, 00:04:04.139 --> 00:04:08.139 "Where could I find a man better than my husband?" 00:04:08.139 --> 00:04:10.360 When my waiting period ('iddah) ended, 00:04:10.360 --> 00:04:14.360 the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) proposed to me. 00:04:14.360 --> 00:04:18.360 I said, "Welcome, O Messenger of Allah, 00:04:18.360 --> 00:04:21.389 and one like you cannot be refused. 00:04:21.389 --> 00:04:24.389 But I am a woman of intense jealousy, 00:04:24.389 --> 00:04:27.389 and I fear that you might see something in me 00:04:27.389 --> 00:04:30.420 for which Allah would punish me. 00:04:30.420 --> 00:04:33.420 Furthermore, I am a woman who has advanced in age, 00:04:33.420 --> 00:04:36.459 and I have children." 00:04:36.459 --> 00:04:39.459 He (peace be upon him) replied, 00:04:39.459 --> 00:04:41.459 "As for what you mentioned regarding jealousy, 00:04:41.459 --> 00:04:44.459 Allah will remove it from you. 00:04:44.459 --> 00:04:47.519 As for what you mentioned regarding age, 00:04:47.519 --> 00:04:50.519 I have been afflicted with the same as you. 00:04:50.519 --> 00:04:53.649 And as for what you mentioned regarding the children, 00:04:53.649 --> 00:04:56.649 your children are my children." 00:04:56.649 --> 00:05:00.649 So he (peace be upon him) married me, 00:05:00.649 --> 00:05:04.649 and Allah replaced my husband with one who was better than him: 00:05:04.649 --> 00:05:08.649 the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). 00:05:08.649 --> 00:05:11.740 Thus, I became one of the Mothers of the Believers, 00:05:11.740 --> 00:05:15.740 and one of the wives of the Trustworthy Messenger. 00:05:15.740 --> 00:05:23.290 So, who am I?
