Stories of the Prophets Stories of the Prophets Peace be upon them The blessings of Allah Followed by Peace Upon the best of all creation Collectively Those of determination Their station is exalted And the light of the ages The story of Adam Peace be upon him In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Merciful In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Merciful Praise be to Allah Lord of the worlds And may the blessings and peace Be upon our Prophet Muhammad And upon all his family and companions To proceed Allah existed And there was nothing Before Him He is the First, may His majesty be glorified And His names be sanctified And His attributes be exalted He is Allah, the One, the Eternal Refuge He created the creation While He is independent of them And all His creation is in need Of Him The first thing Allah created was the Throne Upon the water The Throne is that great Creation Indeed, it is the greatest of all creations And the most expansive And the highest and heaviest It is above the heavens Like a dome It has four pillars The angels describe it Allah the Almighty described it As noble, glorious And magnificent Then He, the Glorified And Exalted, rose over it Allah the Almighty said The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne Established Then Allah the Almighty created the Pen It is a great creation None knows its magnitude Except Allah It is made of light Allah said to it Write It said And what shall I write, O Lord? He said Write what is to be Until the Day of Resurrection So it wrote by the command of Allah Everything In the Preserved Tablet Which is described As a white pearl Its covers are of chrysolite Then after Fifty thousand years Allah created the heavens And the earth The first thing Allah the Almighty created Was the earth, then He created The heaven from the smoke That rose from the water which Was beneath the Throne Then He turned to the earth after that And spread it out And determined its sustenance therein Thus, the Creation of the earth was in four days And He created the heaven in two days And the Heavens and the earth were At the beginning of the matter, joined together Then He parted them By His power And parted the heaven Into seven heavens In layers Then Allah created the creatures On the earth in seven days As it came in Sahih Muslim From the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with Him, who said The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, took My hand And said Allah the Almighty created The soil on Saturday And created the mountains therein On Sunday And created the trees on Monday And created the detestable things on Tuesday And created the light On Wednesday And spread the beasts therein On Thursday And created Adam, peace be upon him After the Asr prayer On Friday At the end of creation In the last hour Of the hours of Friday Between the Asr prayer And the night These seven days Are different from the six days In which were created The heavens and the earth And Allah the Almighty created In the heaven the angels He created them from light And Allah created the jinn On the earth He created them from a smokeless flame Of fire He charged them with commands and prohibitions And legislated for them The lawful and the unlawful But the jinn transgressed Against the command of their Lord And spread corruption on the earth And grew arrogant and tyrannical And shed blood So Allah the Almighty commanded The angels to fight The corrupt jinn So the angels descended To the earth and fought The jinn until They drove them to the islands At the edges of the seas And the earth became Purified from their filth Except for one Of the jinn called Iblis, who was among The most righteous and devout of them He attained such knowledge and righteousness That qualified him For Allah the Almighty to elevate him To the rank of the angels In the heaven So Iblis was counted Among the angels Even if he was not one of them Then Allah the Almighty Said to the angels Indeed, I will make Upon the earth a successor Meaning a creation that succeeds One another And the angels, recently Had been fighting the jinn On the earth due to their corruption And their shedding of blood So the angels said Seeking information and clarification Not in objection to The command of Allah: Will You place “And when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am about to place a viceroy in the earth, they said: Wilt thou place therein one who will do harm therein and will shed blood, while we, we hymn Thy praise and sanctify Thee? He said: Surely I know that which ye know not.” (2:30) And sheds blood? O our Lord If the purpose is to glorify You And worship You, then we Exalt You with Your praise And sanctify You So the answer came from the All-Knowing The Wise Indeed, I know That which you do not know Meaning I know of the benefits And virtues and wisdoms What you do not know And your perception cannot reach So the Angels obeyed the command of Allah The Almighty Then on Friday That great day In which Allah created Adam And in it he was sent down To the earth In it, Allah accepted his repentance. In it, he died. And in it, the Hour will be established. When Allah, Exalted be He, willed to create Adam, peace be upon him, He took a handful from the earth, containing all the colors of soil, its various types, and its characteristics. That is why his offspring came forth diverse in colors, characteristics, and traits. Allah created Adam first from dust. Indeed, the likeness of ‘Isa, “Lo! the likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him of dust, then He said unto him: Be! and he is.” (3:59) He created him from dust. Then He mixed the dust with water, and it became clay. He who perfected everything He created, and began [the creation]. “Who made all things good which He created, and He began the creation of man from clay;” (32:7) Then He left this clay until it became dark, altered mud. Foul-smelling, and smooth, ringing clay. And We have certainly created man from ringing clay, from dark, altered mud. Then He left it until it dried and became like pottery. Man was created from clay like pottery. Thus, Allah created Adam with His Hand from dust. And Allah created his offspring from a base fluid. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators. The Mother of the Believers, ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: "The angels were created from light, and the jinn were created..." “And the jinn did He create of smokeless fire.” (55:15) And Adam was created from what has been described to you. Allah, Exalted be He, created Adam, peace be upon him, with a height of sixty cubits toward the sky. Then He left him solid, hollow, without a soul. He left him in this state for as long as He willed to leave him. So Iblis began to circle around him, contemplating him. When he saw him hollow, he knew that Allah had created a being that could not restrain itself, meaning it possessed a weakness and a lack of stability that was not present in others among the creation. Then Allah, Exalted be He, breathed the soul into Adam. When life stirred in his body, he sneezed, and said, "Praise be to Allah." His Lord said to him, "May your Lord have mercy on you, O Adam." And He said to him, "O Adam, go to that group of the angels and say, 'Peace be upon you.'" So Adam went to them and greeted them as his Lord had commanded him. The angels replied, "And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings." Then Adam returned to his Lord, the Almighty and Majestic, and Allah said to him, "This is your greeting and the greeting..." Then Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, willed to demonstrate to the angels the merit of Adam, peace be upon him. So He taught him the names of all created things: the names of everything, every single thing. The mountain, the tree, the stone, and all inanimate objects, and the lion, the tiger, and all animals. Then Allah commanded the angels, saying, "Inform Me of the names of these." The angels replied with all politeness toward the Lord of Might, Blessed and Exalted be He. They said, "Exalted are You, we have no knowledge except what You have taught us." “They said: Be glorified! We have no knowledge saving that which Thou hast taught us. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Knower, the Wise.” (2:32) Allah said, "O Adam, inform them of their names." So Adam began to name everything by its name. Thus the angels recognized the merit of Adam over them through the knowledge that Allah had taught him. Allah, Exalted be He, said: ﴾And when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successor."﴿ They said, "Will You place in it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, and sheds blood, while we exalt You with praise and declare Your holiness?" He said, "Indeed, I know that which you do not know." And He taught Adam the names, all of them. Then He presented them to the angels. Then He presented them to the angels, and said, "Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful." They said, "Exalted are You, we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise." He said, "O Adam, O Adam, inform them of their names." So when he informed them of their names, He said, "Did I not tell you?" He said, "Did I not tell you that I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal, and I know what you reveal and what you have been concealing." Then Allah, Exalted be He, commanded the angels to prostrate to Adam, peace be upon him— a prostration of greeting, not a prostration of worship. And the command included Iblis as well, because he was with the angels. So the angels prostrated, all of them entirely, except Iblis. He grew arrogant toward the prostration, boasting of the origin from which he was created, acting haughtily toward Adam, and disobeying the command of his Lord, Blessed and Exalted be He. Allah, Exalted be He, said to Iblis: “He said: O Iblis! What hindereth thee from falling prostrate before that which I have created with both My hands? Art thou too proud or art thou of the high exalted?” (38:75) "When I commanded you?" The accursed one replied, "I am better than him; You created me from fire, And He created him from clay. Then the divine command came. So he descended from it. “He said: Then go down hence! It is not for thee to show pride here, so go forth! Lo! thou art of those degraded.” (7:13) And he departed. "You are among the humiliated." Thus it is. The recompense is of the same nature as the deed. When he refused to prostrate out of arrogance, Allah made him among the humiliated. Then the accursed Iblis asked Allah for a respite, that He not cause him to die until the day when people are resurrected, which is the Day of Resurrection. His purpose in that was not to die. Then the response came from Allah, the Exalted, the All-Powerful: "You are among those granted respite, but until the day of the known time," which is the time of the first blast of the Trumpet, when all creation shall perish. At that point, the accursed Satan declared his enmity toward Adam and his descendants, and he took it upon himself to lead astray whomever he could of Adam's descendants, all of them. So Allah said to him: "Depart from Paradise, despised and driven away. I will surely fill Hell with you and those who follow you from among the descendants of Adam, all of them." And thus, the battle began in this life between the accursed Satan on one side, and Adam and his descendants on the other. Allah the Exalted said: "And We have certainly created you, then given you form, then We said to the angels, then We said to the angels: 'Prostrate to Adam,' so they prostrated, they prostrated except Iblis; he was not among those who prostrated. He said, 'What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?' He said, 'I am better than him; You created me from fire and created him from clay.' He said, 'Descend from it, for it is not for you to be arrogant therein.' So he departed, 'You are among the humiliated.' He said, 'Respite me until the day they are resurrected.' He said, 'You are among those granted respite.' He said, 'Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them, and from behind them, and from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them grateful.' He said, 'Depart from it, despised and expelled. Whoever follows you among them, I will surely fill Hell with you all.' Then Allah the Exalted created for Adam, peace be upon him, his wife, Hawwa (Eve). Allah the Exalted created her from the rib of Adam, peace be upon him, so that he might find comfort in her and dwell with her, and that the progeny would thereafter be from their offspring. And Allah the Exalted commanded our parents, Adam and Hawwa, to dwell in Paradise, to eat from its fruits, and to enjoy its bounties, but He forbade them from eating from a tree specified by itself, and warned them that they would be among the wrongdoers if they ate from that tree. Satan exploited this matter and whispered to them to eat from that tree, and he lied to them, saying: “Then Satan whispered to them that he might manifest unto them that which was hidden from them of their shame, and he said: Your Lord forbade you from this tree only lest ye should become angels or become of the immortals.” (7:20) 'Unless you become two angels from among the angels of the Most Merciful, or you become of the immortals in the Gardens.' And he swore to them. “And he swore unto them (saying): Lo! I am a sincere adviser unto you.” (7:21) It did not cross the minds of Adam and Hawwa that anyone would dare to swear by Allah falsely. So they obeyed Iblis. When they tasted of the tree, there was immediately removed from them the light that had been covering their private parts, and their private parts became apparent to them. Then there stirred within them the sound human nature, and they began to cover their private parts with the leaves of Paradise. In the meantime, their Lord called to them: 'Did I not forbid you both?' Adam and Hawwa realized regarding that tree, 'And I warned you both, and I said to you both...' “Thus did he lead them on with guile. And when they tasted of the tree their shame was manifest to them and they began to hide (by heaping) on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called them, (saying): Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you: Lo! Satan is an open enemy to you?” (7:22) Adam and Hawwa felt their mistake and confessed their sin, but only after they had fallen into the misfortune of their disobedience. At that point came the divine command: 'Descend to the earth, you are enemies to one another. For you therein is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time.' So Adam and Hawwa descended to the earth, remorseful. And Adam, peace be upon him, received from his Lord words, through which He taught him repentance and seeking forgiveness. So Adam began to repeat them: 'Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, “They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!” (7:23) and have mercy on us, that we may be among the losers.' So Allah pardoned him, chose him for Himself, accepted his repentance, guided him, and selected him as a prophet on earth, as the first prophet of the prophets. Allah the Exalted said: 'And O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise, and eat from wherever you both wish, eat from wherever you both wish, but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.' Then Satan whispered to them to reveal to them what was hidden from them of their private parts, to reveal So that what was hidden from them of their private parts might be revealed to them. And he said, "Your Lord did not forbid you your Lord did not forbid you from this tree, except that you should become angels, or that you should become angels or become among the immortals." And he swore to them both, "Indeed, I am to you both among the sincere advisors." So he brought them down by deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree?" "Did I not forbid you from that tree, and I say to you both, and I say to you both, that Satan is to you both an enemy manifest?" They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves." "We have wronged ourselves, “They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!” (7:23) and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers." He said, "Descend, being to one another enemies, and for you on the earth is a place of settlement and provision for a time." He said, "Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be brought forth." The hadith has a continuation, if Allah wills. And Allah knows best. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. And may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet, upon Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions, all of them. You have been with the stories of the Prophets.
