A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the Companions.
I was an ally of the Banu Zuhrah.
In my youth in Makkah,
I used to tend sheep for 'Uqbah Ibn Abi Mu'ayt.
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, passed by me,
along with Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him.
He said, "O young boy,
do you have any milk?"
I replied, "Yes, but I am a trustee."
He, peace be upon him, then said,
"Is there a ewe that has not yet been mounted
by a ram?"
I said, "Yes," and brought him a ewe.
He wiped its udder,
and the milk flowed down.
He milked it into a vessel,
then drank, gave some to Abu Bakr, and gave some to me.
Then he said to the udder,
"Shrink," and it shrank.
I said, "O Messenger of Allah,
teach me some of these words."
He wiped my head and said,
"You are a gifted young boy."
I embraced Islam at that moment,
and I was among the first to accept Islam,
even before the Prophet, peace be upon him, entered
the house of Al-Arqam.
I remained close to the Prophet in Makkah,
and I was bold in my faith,
becoming the first to recite the Qur'an aloud in Makkah
after the Prophet, peace be upon him.
I endured what the early Muslims endured
from the persecution of the Quraysh,
until I migrated to Abyssinia,
and then to Madinah.
I remained close to the Prophet in Madinah as well.
I would put on his sandals for him,
then walk before him with his staff.
When he reached his gathering place,
I would take off his sandals,
carry them in my arms,
and hand him his staff.
I would enter his private quarters ahead of him with his staff.
When traveling, I was
the keeper of the Prophet's secrets, his bedding,
his siwak, his sandals, and his water for purification.
I was the one who would screen the Prophet when he bathed,
wake him when he slept,
and keep him company when he walked.
Some of the Companions even thought I was a member of his household, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
I witnessed Badr and all the battles with the Prophet, peace be upon him.
During the blessed Battle of Badr,
the Prophet, peace be upon him, said,
"Who will see what Abu Jahl has done?"
I said, "I will, O Messenger of Allah."
Abu Jahl had been one of those who tormented me most severely in Makkah.
I went to him and found him struck down,
but still clinging to life.
The sons of 'Afra' had struck him.
I climbed onto his chest and killed him.
Then I came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and said,
"I have killed Abu Jahl."
He asked,
"By Allah, besides whom there is no god?"
He repeated this three times.
Then he said,
"Allah is the Greatest."
"Go and show him to me."
We went,
and there he was, fallen and dead.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said,
"This is the Pharaoh of this Ummah."
