A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the Companions from the Ansar of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
I witnessed the Battle of Uhud with him, as well as the battles that followed.
I was known for my courage and boldness.
My title was "The Horseman of the Messenger of Allah," peace be upon him.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, described me as the best of horsemen.
During the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphate, I killed the King of the Persians with my own hands.
He was wearing a garment valued at fifteen thousand dirhams.
Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, gave it to me.
I went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, on an expedition.
When we met the enemy, the Muslims had the upper hand.
I saw a man from the polytheists attacking a man from the Muslims, intending to kill him.
I maneuvered until I came upon him from behind.
I struck him with my sword on the nape of his neck.
His armor fell away from him.
He grabbed me in a grip from which I felt the scent of death.
Then death overtook him, so he let me go and died.
Then the people returned, and the Prophet, peace be upon him, sat down.
He said, "Whoever kills an enemy combatant and has proof of it, he shall have his spoils."
I mentioned my encounter with the man to the Prophet, peace be upon him.
A man testified to that on my behalf.
So the Prophet, peace be upon him, gave me his armor.
I sold it and bought an orchard with it in the territory of Banu Salamah.
It was the first property I ever owned in Islam.
One day, I was bathing and had washed one side of my head.
Then I heard the neighing of my horse and its hoof striking the ground.
I said, "This is a war that has arrived."
I stood up without washing the other side of my head.
I mounted my horse and set off.
Suddenly, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was shouting,
"To arms! To arms!"
I caught up with al-Miqdad, may Allah be pleased with him.
He informed me that Mas'adah had killed Muhriz, one of our companions.
I said to him, "I am going ahead; either I will die,"
"or I will kill the one who killed Muhriz."
I rode off until I caught up with Mas'adah.
I killed him and took his spoils.
Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, came.
When he saw me, he said,
"O Allah, bless him in his hair and his skin."
"May your face be successful."
"Did you kill Mas'adah?"
I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah."
He said, "What is this on your face?"
I said, "An arrow I was struck with."
He said, "Come close to me."
He spat upon it.
And the mark of it vanished.
He gave me Mas'adah's horse and his weapons.
I lived after that until I reached seventy years of age.
Yet I was as if I were fifteen years old.
Through the blessing of the supplication of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, once prayed for me,
for Allah's protection.
That was when we went out with the Prophet, peace be upon him, on a journey.
He, peace be upon him, said,
"You will travel through the evening and the night,"
"and you will reach the water tomorrow, if Allah wills."
The people set off toward the water,
with no one waiting for anyone else.
I remained traveling with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
While we were traveling in the middle of the night,
the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, became drowsy.
He leaned on his mount.
I came to him and supported him without waking him,
until he sat upright on his mount.
We continued traveling until most of the night had passed.
He leaned on his mount again.
I supported him without waking him,
until he sat upright on his mount.
Then we traveled until we reached the final part of the night.
He leaned in a way more severe than the first two times,
until he almost fell.
I came to him and supported him.
He raised his head and said,
"How long have you been traveling beside me like this?"
I said, "I have been traveling beside you like this since the beginning of the night."
He, peace be upon him, said,
"O Allah, protect him just as he has protected me since the beginning of the night."
"I do not see that we have done anything but cause you hardship."
