A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
What aids one in attaining patience.
The most important factor that helps the servant to be patient.
Is that his patience be for the sake of Allah, by the aid of Allah, and in accordance with the will of Allah.
There are also means that assist in achieving and realizing patience.
The most significant of these are:
First:
Knowing the names of Allah the Exalted and His sublime attributes.
And realizing true faith in them.
For this results in the steadfastness of the heart and the composure of the soul.
And patience in the face of trials and calamities.
How could one not be patient when he realizes that his Lord is Merciful and Kind?
All-Wise and All-Knowing.
Compassionate and Bestowing.
Loving and Forgiving.
And so on.
Thus, he entrusts his affairs to Him.
And is content with what Allah chooses for him.
Let him make his patience for the sake of Allah and by the aid of Allah.
And in matters where Allah loves for one to be patient.
Second:
Preparing the soul for calamities before they occur.
So that they become lighter and easier to bear when they do happen.
And that the believer, at such times, should take refuge in the words of:
“Who say, when a misfortune striketh them: Lo! we are Allah's and lo! unto Him we are returning.” (2:156)
Allah the Exalted, who says:
“And surely We shall try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives and crops; but give glad tidings to the steadfast,” (2:155)
"And give glad tidings to the patient."
“Who say, when a misfortune striketh them: Lo! we are Allah's and lo! unto Him we are returning.” (2:156)

Third:
Among the things that also strengthen patience:
The certainty of the believer that whatever has afflicted him.
Is either an expiation for his sins.
Or a means to elevate his rank.
Or to attain a blessing that cannot be reached except through trial.
