The Jews have lied!" 00:02:02.269 --> 00:02:05.269 The blessed newborn was carried 00:02:05.269 --> 00:02:08.270 to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:02:08.270 --> 00:02:10.270 who placed him in his lap. 00:02:10.270 --> 00:02:12.270 He then called for a date, 00:02:12.270 --> 00:02:14.270 chewed it in his noble mouth, 00:02:14.270 --> 00:02:17.270 and placed it into the mouth of the fortunate boy, 00:02:17.270 --> 00:02:19.270 who swallowed it with ease. 00:02:19.270 --> 00:02:21.270 He then named him Abd Allah, 00:02:21.270 --> 00:02:24.270 which was the name of his grandfather, al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him. 00:02:24.270 --> 00:02:26.270 And he gave him the kunya (patronymic) Abu Bakr, 00:02:26.270 --> 00:02:28.270 which was his own. 00:02:28.270 --> 00:02:31.270 Then he commanded al-Siddiq to call the adhan in his ear, 00:02:31.270 --> 00:02:33.270 and he did so. 00:02:33.270 --> 00:02:37.270 Thus, the first thing to enter the belly of that fortunate newborn 00:02:37.270 --> 00:02:41.270 was the saliva of the Messenger of Allah, may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him. 00:02:41.270 --> 00:02:45.270 And the first sound to settle in his ear was the sound of the adhan, 00:02:45.270 --> 00:02:49.270 raised by al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him and grant him satisfaction. 00:02:49.270 --> 00:02:53.300 Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr possessed a nobility of lineage 00:02:53.300 --> 00:02:57.300 such as few people have ever attained. 00:02:57.300 --> 00:02:59.300 His father was al-Zubayr Ibn al-Awwam, 00:02:59.300 --> 00:03:03.300 the disciple (hawari) of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:03:03.300 --> 00:03:06.300 and one of the ten promised Paradise. 00:03:06.300 --> 00:03:11.300 His mother was Asma bint Abi Bakr, the one with the two belts. 00:03:11.300 --> 00:03:14.300 His maternal grandfather was Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, 00:03:14.300 --> 00:03:19.300 the Caliph of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and his intimate friend. 00:03:19.300 --> 00:03:22.300 His maternal aunt was Aisha, Mother of the Believers, 00:03:22.300 --> 00:03:24.300 the innocent and exonerated. 00:03:25.300 --> 00:03:29.300 His paternal grandmother was Safiyya bint Abd al-Muttalib, 00:03:29.300 --> 00:03:33.370 the aunt of the Messenger, may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him. 00:03:33.370 --> 00:03:36.370 And his father’s aunt was Khadija bint Khuwaylid, 00:03:36.370 --> 00:03:39.370 the lady of the women of the Arabs. 00:03:39.370 --> 00:03:43.370 Can any honor surpass such honor, other than the honor of Islam? 00:03:43.370 --> 00:03:47.370 And can any glory exceed this glory, other than the glory of faith? 00:03:47.370 --> 00:03:51.530 Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr grew up in the house of Prophethood, 00:03:51.530 --> 00:03:54.530 walked upon the soil of that pure home, 00:03:54.530 --> 00:03:57.530 and was disciplined by its sublime manners. 00:03:57.530 --> 00:04:01.530 He was the most beloved of Allah’s creation to his aunt Aisha, 00:04:01.530 --> 00:04:06.530 after the noble Messenger of Allah, upon him be the best of prayers and purest of salutations, 00:04:06.530 --> 00:04:10.530 and after her father, al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him and grant him satisfaction. 00:04:10.530 --> 00:04:14.530 When Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr reached the age of seven, 00:04:14.530 --> 00:04:17.529 his father, al-Zubayr Ibn al-Awwam, ordered him 00:04:17.529 --> 00:04:21.529 to go to the Messenger, may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, 00:04:21.529 --> 00:04:26.529 and pledge allegiance to him to hear and obey in times of ease and hardship. 00:04:26.529 --> 00:04:30.529 He went to the noble Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:04:30.529 --> 00:04:34.529 accompanied by Abd Allah Ibn Ja'far Ibn Abi Talib, 00:04:34.529 --> 00:04:37.529 who was a young boy of similar age. 00:04:37.529 --> 00:04:41.529 When the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, saw them 00:04:41.529 --> 00:04:43.529 approaching him to pledge allegiance, 00:04:43.529 --> 00:04:45.529 just as mature men would do, 00:04:45.529 --> 00:04:48.529 he smiled with delight at their actions, 00:04:48.529 --> 00:04:52.529 extended his noble hand to them, and accepted their pledge. 00:04:52.529 --> 00:04:56.620 Throughout his life, Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr 00:04:56.620 --> 00:04:58.620 remembered this pledge, 00:04:58.620 --> 00:05:00.620 and remained committed to it in all his affairs, 00:05:00.620 --> 00:05:06.620 instructing his children to follow the way of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. 00:05:06.620 --> 00:05:10.660 Once, his son was absent from the house for a long time, 00:05:10.660 --> 00:05:12.660 and when he returned, he said to him, 00:05:12.660 --> 00:05:14.660 "Where were you, my son?" 00:05:14.660 --> 00:05:15.660 He replied, 00:05:15.660 --> 00:05:19.660 "I found a group of people the likes of whom I have never seen. 00:05:19.660 --> 00:05:22.660 They were remembering Allah the Exalted, 00:05:22.660 --> 00:05:24.660 and one of them would wail and tremble 00:05:24.660 --> 00:05:27.660 until he fainted from the fear of Allah." 00:05:27.660 --> 00:05:30.660 "So I sat with them all day long." 00:05:30.660 --> 00:05:31.660 He said to him, 00:05:31.660 --> 00:05:36.660 "Do not sit with them after this time, my son, ever. 00:05:36.660 --> 00:05:40.660 For I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:05:40.660 --> 00:05:41.660 reciting the Qur'an, 00:05:41.660 --> 00:05:47.660 and remembering Allah the Blessed and Exalted in the most excellent, profound, and sincere manner. 00:05:47.660 --> 00:05:53.660 And I saw Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali, may Allah be pleased with them, 00:05:53.660 --> 00:05:55.660 reciting the Qur'an 00:05:55.660 --> 00:05:57.660 and remembering Allah as well, 00:05:57.660 --> 00:06:00.660 yet none of them were afflicted by any of this." 00:06:00.660 --> 00:06:03.660 "Do you think that these companions of yours 00:06:03.660 --> 00:06:08.660 are more fearful of Allah than Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali?" 00:06:08.660 --> 00:06:12.980 Just as Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr was raised in righteousness and piety, 00:06:12.980 --> 00:06:18.980 he was also raised in horsemanship and warfare from his earliest youth. 00:06:18.980 --> 00:06:23.980 His father was extremely keen to have him witness the military expeditions, 00:06:23.980 --> 00:06:26.980 and to take him along to distant lands, 00:06:26.980 --> 00:06:29.980 so that he might attend battles and witness the conquests. 00:06:29.980 --> 00:06:35.980 He took him along on the day of Yarmouk from Medina to the Levant, 00:06:35.980 --> 00:06:38.980 and singled him out with a thoroughbred horse, 00:06:38.980 --> 00:06:41.980 and hired a guardian to look after it for him. 00:06:41.980 --> 00:06:47.100 Thus, he was able to witness the greatest battle in the history of Islam at close range, 00:06:47.100 --> 00:06:51.100 to see the massive armies in their charges and retreats, 00:06:51.100 --> 00:06:54.100 and to accompany them in defeat and victory. 00:06:54.100 --> 00:06:58.100 He became a man of war just as he was a worshiper of the night. 00:06:58.100 --> 00:07:03.300 Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr never missed a battle fought by the Muslims 00:07:03.300 --> 00:07:06.300 from the time he became capable of bearing arms. 00:07:06.300 --> 00:07:10.300 In every battle the mujahidin fought, he had 00:07:10.300 --> 00:07:12.300 an impact that was noted and praised. 00:07:12.300 --> 00:07:18.300 Among these was when the Caliph of the Muslims, Uthman Ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him and grant him satisfaction, 00:07:18.300 --> 00:07:22.300 authorized his governor in Egypt to conquer North Africa. 00:07:22.300 --> 00:07:25.300 The invading army set out toward its objective, 00:07:25.300 --> 00:07:29.300 but it was not long before news of them ceased to reach the Caliph, 00:07:30.300 --> 00:07:33.300 which caused him great concern and distress. 00:07:33.300 --> 00:07:39.300 So he sent Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr at the head of a group of Muslim cavalry 00:07:39.300 --> 00:07:43.300 to reinforce the army and bring back news of them. 00:07:43.300 --> 00:07:46.300 Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr met the invading army 00:07:46.300 --> 00:07:48.300 and examined its condition. 00:07:48.300 --> 00:07:55.300 He found that its commander was fighting the polytheists from morning until noon every day, 00:07:55.300 --> 00:08:01.300 and then both his army and theirs would rest due to the harsh weather and intense heat. 00:08:01.300 --> 00:08:06.300 He quickly suggested that he divide his army into two parts: 00:08:06.300 --> 00:08:09.300 one part to fight the first half of the day, 00:08:09.300 --> 00:08:12.300 and one part to fight the second half of the day, 00:08:12.300 --> 00:08:16.300 so that the two groups could alternate resting while the fighting continued. 00:08:16.300 --> 00:08:21.300 In this way, he would not give the enemy a chance to catch their breath. 00:08:21.300 --> 00:08:24.329 The army commander was pleased with the proposed plan 00:08:24.329 --> 00:08:26.329 and ordered its implementation, 00:08:26.329 --> 00:08:31.329 willingly and voluntarily relinquishing command to Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr. 00:08:31.329 --> 00:08:36.330 The two armies fought the next day as they had fought every day. 00:08:36.330 --> 00:08:39.330 When noon arrived, 00:08:39.330 --> 00:08:42.330 the enemies began to withdraw as was their custom, 00:08:42.330 --> 00:08:45.330 but they were shocked and surprised by the Muslims, 00:08:45.330 --> 00:08:49.330 who continued the fight with an army full of vigor, 00:08:49.330 --> 00:08:51.330 sharpened resolve, 00:08:51.330 --> 00:08:53.330 and abundant energy. 00:08:53.330 --> 00:08:55.330 Panic struck their hearts, 00:08:55.330 --> 00:08:58.330 disorder entered their ranks, 00:08:58.330 --> 00:09:01.330 and the signs of defeat appeared upon them. 00:09:01.330 --> 00:09:04.330 At that moment, Ibn al-Zubayr saw the opportunity was ripe, 00:09:04.330 --> 00:09:07.330 so he chose thirty of his strongest men 00:09:07.330 --> 00:09:10.330 and said to them, "Guard my back, 00:09:10.330 --> 00:09:13.580 and you will see what I am about to do." 00:09:13.580 --> 00:09:15.580 Jarjir, the king of the enemies 00:09:15.580 --> 00:09:19.580 and commander of their army, was stationed in the center of his camp, 00:09:19.580 --> 00:09:22.580 riding his grey pack-horse. 00:09:22.580 --> 00:09:27.580 He had two slave girls with him shading him with peacock feathers. 00:09:27.580 --> 00:09:31.580 Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr said to the men he had chosen, 00:09:31.580 --> 00:09:34.580 "I am going toward him, so follow me, 00:09:34.580 --> 00:09:37.580 and repel from me the treachery of anyone who opposes me." 00:09:37.580 --> 00:09:39.580 Then he moved toward Jarjir, 00:09:39.580 --> 00:09:43.580 steady of heart, firm of resolve, and measured of step. 00:09:43.580 --> 00:09:47.710 He began to cut through the ranks with both hands in calm composure. 00:09:47.710 --> 00:09:49.710 The people thought he was an envoy 00:09:49.710 --> 00:09:52.710 who had come from the Muslims to negotiate. 00:09:52.710 --> 00:09:55.710 When he reached the center of the camp, 00:09:55.710 --> 00:09:58.710 the king realized his intent and feared his might, 00:09:58.710 --> 00:10:00.710 so he turned to flee. 00:10:00.710 --> 00:10:02.710 But Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr caught up with him 00:10:02.710 --> 00:10:05.710 and struck him a blow that threw him to the ground. 00:10:05.710 --> 00:10:07.710 Then he pounced upon him, 00:10:07.710 --> 00:10:10.710 finished him off, and severed his head, 00:10:10.710 --> 00:10:12.710 hoisting it upon his spear. 00:10:12.710 --> 00:10:14.710 Then he raised his voice in takbir, 00:10:14.710 --> 00:10:17.710 and the Muslims shouted takbir in response to him. 00:10:17.710 --> 00:10:20.710 Zeal stirred the souls of the Muslims, 00:10:20.710 --> 00:10:23.710 and panic spread in the hearts of the polytheists, 00:10:23.710 --> 00:10:25.710 so they turned their backs and fled, 00:10:25.710 --> 00:10:27.710 leaving their rears exposed to Ibn al-Zubayr 00:10:27.710 --> 00:10:32.000 and his soldiers fighting in the cause of Allah. 00:10:32.000 --> 00:10:35.000 Allah honored Abd Allah Ibn al-Zubayr, 00:10:35.000 --> 00:10:38.000 for he possessed, above all his other virtues, 00:10:38.000 --> 00:10:41.000 the loftiness of piety and the purity of righteousness, 00:10:41.000 --> 00:10:45.000 as he lived standing in prayer by night and fasting by day, 00:10:45.000 --> 00:10:48.000 with a heart attached to the houses of Allah. 00:10:48.000 --> 00:10:51.000 People used to call him "the Dove of the Mosque." 00:10:51.000 --> 00:10:56.000 It was known that he divided the nights of his life into three: 00:10:56.000 --> 00:11:00.000 one night he would spend standing in prayer until morning, 00:11:00.000 --> 00:11:05.000 one night he would spend bowing until morning, 00:11:05.000 --> 00:11:10.000 and one night he would spend prostrating until morning as well. 00:11:10.000 --> 00:11:13.000 He had stances during the seasons of worship 00:11:13.000 --> 00:11:16.000 that shook the hearts of the Muslims, 00:11:16.000 --> 00:11:19.000 and stirred the hidden depths of faith in their hearts. 00:11:19.000 --> 00:11:23.000 Among these is what was narrated by Muhammad Ibn Abd Allah al-Thaqafi, 00:11:23.000 --> 00:11:26.000 He said: ‘Abdullah Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) came out to us, 00:11:26.000 --> 00:11:30.000 one day before the Day of Tarwiyah, while he was in the state of ihram. 00:11:30.000 --> 00:11:34.000 He recited the talbiyah in a manner more beautiful than any I had ever heard, 00:11:34.000 --> 00:11:36.100 and indeed, like nothing else I have ever heard. 00:11:36.100 --> 00:11:39.100 Then he praised Allah with the most abundant praise, 00:11:39.100 --> 00:11:41.100 and extolled Him with the most excellent commendation. 00:11:41.100 --> 00:11:44.100 He then said: ‘To proceed: 00:11:44.100 --> 00:11:47.100 You have come from various horizons, 00:11:47.100 --> 00:11:50.100 as delegations to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic. 00:11:50.100 --> 00:11:53.100 It is the right of Allah to honor those who come to Him as His delegation. 00:11:53.100 --> 00:11:56.100 So whoever among you has come seeking what is with Allah, 00:11:56.100 --> 00:11:59.100 know that one who seeks Allah shall not be disappointed. 00:11:59.100 --> 00:12:02.100 Verify your words with your deeds, 00:12:02.100 --> 00:12:05.100 for the essence of speech is action. 00:12:05.100 --> 00:12:07.100 And intention, intention! 00:12:07.100 --> 00:12:09.100 For deeds are but by intentions. 00:12:09.100 --> 00:12:12.100 Fear Allah, fear Allah regarding these days of yours, 00:12:12.100 --> 00:12:15.100 for they are days in which sins are forgiven.’ 00:12:15.100 --> 00:12:17.129 Then he recited the talbiyah, 00:12:17.129 --> 00:12:19.129 and the people recited the talbiyah along with him. 00:12:19.129 --> 00:12:21.129 I have never seen a day, 00:12:21.129 --> 00:12:24.129 in which there were more people weeping than on that day. 00:12:24.129 --> 00:12:26.220 Furthermore, 00:12:26.220 --> 00:12:30.220 ‘Abdullah Ibn al-Zubayr spent his entire life, 00:12:30.220 --> 00:12:33.220 struggling for what he believed to be the truth, 00:12:33.220 --> 00:12:36.220 until he was killed near the sacred Ka‘bah. 00:13:09.490 --> 00:13:13.029 Among those who wept at the time of his death, 00:13:13.029 --> 00:13:16.029 was ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar Ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them both).
