A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the Companions, from the Emigrants of Mecca.
I was among the very first of the Prophet's companions (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to embrace Islam.
The reason for my conversion was that I saw in a dream that I was standing on the brink of Hellfire,
and it was as if my father was pushing me into it,
while I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) pulling me back by my waist-wrapper to prevent me from falling in.
I woke up terrified and said, "I swear, this is a true vision."
So I met Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)
and mentioned it to him.
Abu Bakr said, "Goodness is intended for you.
This is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so follow him,
for he will restrain you from falling into the Fire,
whereas your father is falling into it."
I then met the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) at Ajyad
and embraced Islam.
I hid away from my father,
but when he found out about my conversion, he sent people to look for me,
so I was brought back to him.
He reviled me and struck me with a stick in his hand,
until he broke it over my head.
He said,
"Have you followed Muhammad, even though you see his opposition to his people,
and how he has disparaged their gods and criticized their departed forefathers?
Go away, you fool, wherever you wish!
By Allah, I will surely cut off your sustenance!"
I replied,
"If you deny me,
Allah will surely grant me the provision upon which I shall live."
Then I left and went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),
remaining constantly in his company and living alongside him.
Later, I migrated to Abyssinia,
and while there, Umm Habibah—
Ramlah bint Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with her)—appointed me as her representative,
making me her legal guardian
when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) proposed to her,
so I gave her in marriage to him.
I then came to Medina in the seventh year after the Hijrah
along with Ja'far ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him).
I was present with the Prophet (peace be upon him) at the Compensatory Umrah,
the Conquest of Mecca,
Hunayn, al-Ta'if, and Tabuk.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) also appointed me as a collector of zakat in Yemen.
