Among them were those waiting for their turn to join the ranks of the martyrs,

And among them were those who truly fulfilled their pledge and joined their caravan.

Whose chests held the Book of Allah,

Translating it into living reality on the battlefield of al-Yamamah.

When the call echoed across the field:

"O people of Surah al-Baqarah!

O people of the Qur'an!

Adorn the Qur'an with heroic deeds!"

They surged forward to lead the frontline ranks,

Facing the enemy amidst diverse forms of death,

Until the tide turned decisively against the apostates,

And Allah blessed the Muslims with a manifest victory.

The Muslims inspected their fallen among the dead;

And behold, here was Abu Dujanah,

The bearer of the red headband of death,

Who had taken the sword of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, with its full right.

The orator of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.

Near them lay

At-Tufayl ibn 'Amr,

'Abbad ibn Bishr,

And 'Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr,

The son of the Caliph of the Muslims.

Among the martyrs was Salim,

Who had fought valiantly

And played a pivotal role in turning the tide of the battle.

Fears spread among the Companions over the potential loss of the Qur'an

Due to the deaths of its memorizers on the battlefield.

Thereupon, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, hurried

To Abu Bakr, the Caliph of the Muslims,

And said:

"Heavy casualties were inflicted upon the reciters of the Qur'an on the day of al-Yamamah,

And I fear that a large portion of the Qur'an may be lost.

I believe you should order the collection of the Qur'an."

As-Siddiq said to 'Umar:

"How can we do something that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not do?"

'Umar replied:

"By Allah, it is good."

'Umar continued to urge him

So trace the Qur'an and collect it."

Thus, Zayd ibn Thabit collected it

From palm stalks, shoulder blades, and the hearts of men,

And transcribed it onto sheets.

These sheets remained with Abu Bakr until Allah took his soul,

Then with 'Umar throughout his life,

And then with Hafsah bint 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them.

This deed was among the greatest achievements of as-Siddiq.

During his caliphate, monumental, heroic battles took place

Whose echoes continue to resound to this day:

Dhat as-Salasil, Ajnadayn, and Yarmuk—

Unforgettable days in the life of as-Siddiq.

Abu Bakr as-Siddiq fell ill

With his terminal illness.

When he felt his end approaching,

He consulted the Companions about 'Umar ibn al-Khattab,

And the people unanimously agreed that he was the most worthy of the caliphate.

He then summoned 'Uthman ibn 'Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, and said:

I have appointed over you—" Then he lost consciousness.

And the niche of his grave was placed directly adjacent to the Prophet's grave.

And collected the land tax.

We find him devising remarkable strategies

And meticulous measures in his wars against the apostates,

And later against Persia and Rome.

We see him tending to the public treasury,

As abundant provisions overflowed for the people in his era.

We find that he never neglected a single one of his subjects;

He would go out in person

To care for an elderly blind woman in her home,

Sweeping her room and preparing her food.

We see him milking sheep for the weak;

We find him visiting the sick,

00:08:27.410 --> 00:08:29.410
Attending funerals, upholding ties of kinship,

00:08:30.410 --> 00:08:32.409
Caring for his children and wives,

00:08:33.409 --> 00:08:35.409
And showing deep gentleness and compassion to his servants.

All of this took place within a span of no more than two years and three months—

The total duration of his caliphate, may Allah be pleased with him and grant him satisfaction.

You were the first of the people to embrace Islam,

The purest of them in faith,

The strongest of them in certainty in Allah,

And the most resembling the Messenger of Allah in guidance and character.

May Allah grant you the best reward on behalf of His Messenger and Islam.

By Allah, the Muslims will never suffer a loss after the Messenger of Allah like the loss of you!"
