00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.399
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

00:00:03.399 --> 00:00:06.889
Treasures of the Seerah.

00:00:06.889 --> 00:00:14.580
The acceptance of Islam by 'Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl (may Allah be pleased with him).

00:00:14.580 --> 00:00:21.320
'Ikrimah fled to Yemen and boarded a ship with some people.

00:00:21.320 --> 00:00:23.519
Then a fierce storm struck them.

00:00:23.519 --> 00:00:26.120
The people on the ship said:

00:00:26.320 --> 00:00:27.519
"Be sincere in your devotion,

00:00:27.519 --> 00:00:31.920
for your gods cannot avail you at all here!"

00:00:31.920 --> 00:00:33.520
Glory be to Allah!

00:00:33.520 --> 00:00:34.920
In times of ease,

00:00:34.920 --> 00:00:36.619
they invoke idols,

00:00:36.619 --> 00:00:38.520
but in times of distress,

00:00:38.520 --> 00:00:40.719
they invoke none but Allah.

00:00:40.719 --> 00:00:42.320
Allah Almighty says:

00:00:42.320 --> 00:00:48.119
◁ Say, "Who rescues you from the darknesses of the land and sea? ▷

00:00:48.119 --> 00:00:51.520
◁ You call upon Him humbly and in secret, ▷

00:00:51.520 --> 00:00:55.119
◁ "If He should rescue us from this, we will surely be among the thankful." ▷

00:00:55.119 --> 00:01:02.320
◁ "If He should rescue us from this, we will surely be among the thankful." ▷

00:01:03.070 --> 00:01:05.269
As for our time,

00:01:05.269 --> 00:01:09.269
some polytheists who attribute themselves to Islam,

00:01:09.269 --> 00:01:11.269
when matters become dire for them,

00:01:11.269 --> 00:01:16.069
associate partners with Allah and supplicate to others besides Him, Glorified and Exalted is He.

00:01:16.069 --> 00:01:19.670
There is no doubt that the polytheists of that past era

00:01:19.670 --> 00:01:22.269
were in a better state than those of today.

00:01:22.269 --> 00:01:25.069
For this reason, some scholars said:

00:01:25.069 --> 00:01:27.069
"The polytheist of former times

00:01:27.069 --> 00:01:30.069
was less grave than the polytheist of our time."

00:01:30.069 --> 00:01:34.700
Here, 'Ikrimah took heed of the words spoken by the shipmates,

00:01:34.700 --> 00:01:35.900
and he said:

00:01:35.900 --> 00:01:39.299
"If nothing can save me at sea except sincere devotion,

00:01:39.299 --> 00:01:42.299
then nothing can save me on land except it either.

00:01:42.299 --> 00:01:45.299
O Allah, I pledge to You

00:01:45.299 --> 00:01:48.500
that if You deliver me from this plight,

00:01:48.500 --> 00:01:50.900
I shall go to Muhammad

00:01:50.900 --> 00:01:53.299
until I place my hand in his hand,

00:01:53.700 --> 00:01:56.900
and I shall surely find him forgiving and generous."

00:01:56.900 --> 00:01:58.900
So Allah saved him.

00:01:58.900 --> 00:02:02.099
He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

00:02:02.099 --> 00:02:03.299
and embraced Islam,

00:02:03.299 --> 00:02:06.099
and the Prophet (peace be upon him) accepted

00:02:06.099 --> 00:02:08.169
his Islam.

00:02:08.169 --> 00:02:13.060
Treasures of the Seerah.

00:02:13.060 --> 00:02:16.259
The acceptance of Islam by Safwan ibn Umayyah

00:02:16.259 --> 00:02:20.639
(may Allah be pleased with him).

00:02:20.639 --> 00:02:22.639
Safwan ibn Umayyah

00:02:22.639 --> 00:02:26.639
was not among those whose blood the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had declared forfeit,

00:02:26.639 --> 00:02:27.639
forfeit.

00:02:27.639 --> 00:02:32.240
However, he was a prominent leader among the chieftains of Quraysh,

00:02:32.240 --> 00:02:33.439
so he fled.

00:02:33.439 --> 00:02:36.840
'Umayr ibn Wahb al-Jumahi requested safe conduct for him,

00:02:36.840 --> 00:02:40.840
and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) granted him safety

00:02:40.840 --> 00:02:44.840
and gave 'Umayr his turban with which he had entered Mecca.

00:02:44.840 --> 00:02:46.639
'Umayr caught up with him

00:02:46.639 --> 00:02:50.439
while he was about to set sail from Jeddah to Yemen,

00:02:50.439 --> 00:02:51.840
and brought him back.

00:02:51.840 --> 00:02:56.240
Safwan said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):

00:02:56.240 --> 00:02:59.240
"Grant me an option of two months."

00:02:59.240 --> 00:03:03.240
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied:

00:03:03.240 --> 00:03:06.439
"You have an option of four months."

00:03:06.439 --> 00:03:09.840
He later returned and embraced Islam.

00:03:09.840 --> 00:03:13.240
His wife had already accepted Islam before him,

00:03:13.240 --> 00:03:16.240
and the Prophet (peace be upon him) affirmed them

00:03:16.240 --> 00:03:19.270
in their previous marriage.

00:03:19.270 --> 00:03:24.219
Treasures of the Seerah.

00:03:24.219 --> 00:03:32.270
The sermon of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in Mecca.

00:03:32.270 --> 00:03:34.270
On the second day,

00:03:34.270 --> 00:03:38.270
the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood to deliver a sermon,

00:03:38.270 --> 00:03:41.270
saying: "O people!

00:03:41.270 --> 00:03:46.340
“Lo! the number of the months with Allah is twelve months by Allah's ordinance in the day that He created the heavens and the earth. Four of them are sacred: that is the right religion. So wrong not yourselves in them. And wage war on all of the idolaters as they are waging war on all of you. And know that Allah is with those who keep their duty (unto Him).” (9:36)

00:03:46.340 --> 00:03:50.340
It is sacred by Allah's decree until the Day of Resurrection.

00:03:50.340 --> 00:03:54.340
It is not lawful for any person who believes in Allah and the Last Day

00:03:54.340 --> 00:03:58.340
to shed blood in it or to fell a tree in it.

00:03:58.340 --> 00:04:03.370
If anyone seeks a concession citing the fighting of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in it,

00:04:03.370 --> 00:04:07.370
say to him: 'Allah permitted His Messenger,

00:04:07.370 --> 00:04:09.370
but He did not permit you.'

00:04:09.370 --> 00:04:13.370
It was only made lawful for me for a single hour of a day,

00:04:13.370 --> 00:04:17.370
and its sanctity has returned today just as it was yesterday.

00:04:17.370 --> 00:04:20.370
So let the present convey this to the absent."

00:04:21.430 --> 00:04:24.430
He (peace be upon him) also said regarding the Sanctuary:

00:04:24.430 --> 00:04:26.430
"Its thorns shall not be cut,

00:04:26.430 --> 00:04:28.430
its game shall not be chased,

00:04:28.430 --> 00:04:33.430
its lost property shall not be picked up except by one who announces it,

00:04:33.430 --> 00:04:35.430
and its fresh herbage shall not be uprooted."

00:04:35.430 --> 00:04:37.430
Al-'Abbas said:

00:04:37.430 --> 00:04:39.430
"Except sweet rush (*idhkhir*),

00:04:39.430 --> 00:04:42.430
for it is used by their blacksmiths and for their homes."

00:04:42.430 --> 00:04:45.430
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

00:04:45.430 --> 00:04:47.430
"Except sweet rush."

00:04:47.430 --> 00:04:50.589
A man from the people of Yemen stood up,

00:04:50.589 --> 00:04:53.589
named Abu Shah,

00:04:53.589 --> 00:04:56.589
and said: "Write this down for me, O Messenger of Allah!"

00:04:56.589 --> 00:05:00.750
So he said: "Write it down for Abu Shah."

00:05:00.750 --> 00:05:05.750
The entry of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) into Mecca during its conquest

00:05:05.750 --> 00:05:09.750
serves as proof that entering Mecca without ihram is permissible,

00:05:09.750 --> 00:05:12.750
because he did not enter as a pilgrim in ihram.

00:05:12.750 --> 00:05:15.750
Thus, whoever intends to enter Mecca for Hajj or 'Umrah

00:05:15.750 --> 00:05:19.750
is not permitted to enter except in a state of ihram.

00:05:19.750 --> 00:05:23.750
As for whoever intends to enter it for purposes other than Hajj or 'Umrah,

00:05:23.750 --> 00:05:26.750
many scholars have held the view

00:05:26.750 --> 00:05:29.750
that it is permissible to enter without ihram,

00:05:29.750 --> 00:05:31.750
such as a taxi driver,

00:05:31.750 --> 00:05:35.750
or someone seeking trade or visiting a sick person.

00:05:35.750 --> 00:05:39.750
Others maintained that one must enter in ihram.

00:05:39.750 --> 00:05:42.750
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed

00:05:42.750 --> 00:05:45.750
in Mecca for nineteen days,

00:05:45.750 --> 00:05:48.750
praying two rak'ahs and not fasting.

00:05:57.339 --> 00:06:01.040
During this expedition,

00:06:01.040 --> 00:06:04.040
the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prohibited

00:06:04.040 --> 00:06:06.040
temporary marriage (*mut'ah* of women).

00:06:06.040 --> 00:06:09.040
Whoever claims that 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)

00:06:09.040 --> 00:06:12.040
was the one who prohibited temporary marriage

00:06:12.040 --> 00:06:14.040
is either a liar

00:06:14.040 --> 00:06:17.040
or an ignorant person.

00:06:17.040 --> 00:06:21.040
This is because it is authentically established from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

00:06:21.040 --> 00:06:24.040
that he prohibited temporary marriage.

00:06:24.040 --> 00:06:28.139
On the authority of 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), he said:

00:06:28.139 --> 00:06:31.139
"The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade

00:06:31.139 --> 00:06:33.139
temporary marriage with women

00:06:33.139 --> 00:06:37.139
and the meat of domestic donkeys on the day of Khaybar."

00:06:37.139 --> 00:06:40.300
On the authority of Sabrah ibn Ma'bad (may Allah be pleased with him),

00:06:40.300 --> 00:06:44.300
he was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him),

00:06:44.300 --> 00:06:48.300
and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

00:06:48.300 --> 00:06:50.300
"O people!

00:06:50.300 --> 00:06:53.300
I had previously permitted you

00:06:53.300 --> 00:06:55.300
to contract temporary marriage with women,

00:06:55.300 --> 00:06:59.300
but Allah has now forbidden that until the Day of Resurrection.

00:06:59.300 --> 00:07:02.300
So whoever has any of them with him,

00:07:02.300 --> 00:07:04.300
let him release her,

00:07:04.300 --> 00:07:08.300
and do not take back anything of what you have given them."

00:07:08.300 --> 00:07:12.329
On the authority of Salamah ibn al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him), he said:

00:07:12.329 --> 00:07:16.329
"The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) permitted

00:07:16.329 --> 00:07:17.329
temporary marriage in the year of Awtas

00:07:17.329 --> 00:07:19.329
for three days,

00:07:19.329 --> 00:07:21.329
then he forbade it."

00:07:21.329 --> 00:07:24.329
There are other hadiths concerning temporary marriage,

00:07:24.329 --> 00:07:27.329
but this is not the place to mention them.

00:07:35.629 --> 00:07:41.579
When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) felt secure

00:07:41.579 --> 00:07:42.579
after the conquest,

00:07:42.579 --> 00:07:45.579
he dispatched Khalid ibn al-Walid to al-'Uzza

00:07:45.579 --> 00:07:46.579
to destroy it.

00:07:46.579 --> 00:07:48.579
He dispatched 'Amr ibn al-'As

00:07:48.579 --> 00:07:50.579
to destroy Suwa',

00:07:50.579 --> 00:07:52.579
and he dispatched Sa'd ibn Zayd

00:07:52.579 --> 00:07:54.579
to destroy Manat.

00:07:54.579 --> 00:07:57.579
These were the idols of the Age of Ignorance.

00:07:57.579 --> 00:07:59.610
As for Khalid ibn al-Walid,

00:07:59.610 --> 00:08:01.610
he set out for al-'Uzza,

00:08:01.610 --> 00:08:03.610
which was located in Nakhlah,

00:08:03.610 --> 00:08:06.610
and belonged to Quraysh and all of Kinanah.

00:08:06.610 --> 00:08:09.610
Abu Sufyan had said during the Battle of Uhud,

00:08:09.610 --> 00:08:11.610
after the battle had ended:

00:08:11.610 --> 00:08:14.610
"We have al-'Uzza, and you have no 'Uzza!"

00:08:14.610 --> 00:08:17.610
Thus, al-'Uzza was the chief idol of Quraysh

00:08:17.610 --> 00:08:19.610
and their greatest idol,

00:08:19.610 --> 00:08:22.610
and Banu Shayban were its custodians.

00:08:22.610 --> 00:08:26.610
Khalid set out toward it with thirty horsemen

00:08:26.610 --> 00:08:29.610
until he reached it and destroyed it.

00:08:29.610 --> 00:08:33.610
Then he returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

00:08:33.610 --> 00:08:37.610
The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked him:

00:08:37.610 --> 00:08:39.610
"Did you see anything?"

00:08:39.610 --> 00:08:41.610
He replied: "No."

00:08:41.610 --> 00:08:44.610
He said: "Then you have not destroyed it."

00:08:44.610 --> 00:08:47.610
So Khalid went back and completed its destruction.

00:08:47.610 --> 00:08:50.610
Khalid returned with his sword drawn,

00:08:50.610 --> 00:08:53.610
and a black woman came out toward him,

00:08:53.610 --> 00:08:56.610
naked and with disheveled hair;

00:08:56.610 --> 00:09:00.610
she was a female jinni associated with al-'Uzza.

00:09:00.610 --> 00:09:04.610
The custodian responsible for the idol began calling out to her,

00:09:04.610 --> 00:09:08.610
but Khalid struck her and severed her in two.

00:09:08.610 --> 00:09:12.610
He then returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

00:09:12.610 --> 00:09:14.610
and informed him.

00:09:14.610 --> 00:09:16.610
He said: "That was al-'Uzza;

00:09:16.610 --> 00:09:20.610
she has despaired of ever being worshipped in your land again."

00:09:20.610 --> 00:09:23.669
As for 'Amr ibn al-'As,

00:09:23.669 --> 00:09:26.669
the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded him

00:09:26.669 --> 00:09:28.669
to destroy Suwa',

00:09:28.669 --> 00:09:30.669
which was an idol located in Hudhayl,

00:09:30.669 --> 00:09:33.669
three miles from Mecca.

00:09:33.669 --> 00:09:35.860
When 'Amr arrived,

00:09:36.860 --> 00:09:38.860
the custodian confronted him and asked:

00:09:38.860 --> 00:09:40.860
"What do you want?"

00:09:40.860 --> 00:09:44.860
He replied: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered me

00:09:44.860 --> 00:09:46.860
to destroy it."

00:09:46.860 --> 00:09:49.860
He said: "You will not be able to do so!"

00:09:49.860 --> 00:09:51.860
'Amr asked: "Why?"

00:09:51.860 --> 00:09:52.860
He replied: "You will be prevented!"

00:09:52.860 --> 00:09:56.860
'Amr said: "Are you still upon falsehood?

00:09:56.860 --> 00:09:57.860
Woe to you!

00:09:57.860 --> 00:10:00.860
Does it hear or see?"

00:10:00.860 --> 00:10:03.860
Then 'Amr approached it and smashed it,

00:10:03.860 --> 00:10:06.860
and he ordered his companions to demolish its treasury house,

00:10:06.860 --> 00:10:09.860
but they found nothing inside.

00:10:09.860 --> 00:10:11.860
'Amr then said to the custodian:

00:10:11.860 --> 00:10:12.860
"What do you think now?

00:10:12.860 --> 00:10:14.860
Were you prevented?"

00:10:14.860 --> 00:10:17.899
He replied: "I submit to Allah!"

00:10:17.899 --> 00:10:21.899
Sa'd ibn Zayd al-Ashhali set out for Manat,

00:10:21.899 --> 00:10:23.899
which belonged to the Aws and the Khazraj.

00:10:23.899 --> 00:10:26.899
When Sa'd arrived,

00:10:26.899 --> 00:10:28.899
Its custodians said to him,

00:10:28.899 --> 00:10:29.899
"What do you want?"

00:10:29.899 --> 00:10:32.899
He said, "I want to destroy Manat."

00:10:32.899 --> 00:10:35.899
The custodian said, "You are on your own."

00:10:35.899 --> 00:10:36.899
So he advanced,

00:10:36.899 --> 00:10:39.899
and a black woman came out against him,

00:10:39.899 --> 00:10:41.899
naked and with disheveled hair,

00:10:41.899 --> 00:10:43.899
wailing in distress

00:10:43.899 --> 00:10:45.899
and beating her chest.

00:10:45.899 --> 00:10:47.899
The custodian said to her,

00:10:47.899 --> 00:10:48.899
"O Manat,

00:10:48.899 --> 00:10:50.899
unleash some of your wrath upon him!"

00:10:50.899 --> 00:10:55.899
Meaning, he was asking the idol to act against the one who defied it.

00:10:55.899 --> 00:10:58.899
But Sa'd struck her down and killed her,

00:10:58.899 --> 00:11:01.899
then he approached the idol and demolished it.

00:11:01.899 --> 00:11:06.899
The priestess used to say to al-'Uzza, Manat, and other idols,

00:11:06.899 --> 00:11:08.899
"Defend yourself! Defend yourself!"

00:11:08.899 --> 00:11:11.899
Yet they could do nothing,

00:11:11.899 --> 00:11:13.899
as was said in poetry:

00:11:13.899 --> 00:11:17.899
"O 'Uzza, launch a fierce assault, like no other,

00:11:17.899 --> 00:11:21.899
throw off the veil against Khalid and tuck up your garments!

00:11:21.899 --> 00:11:25.899
For if you, O woman, do not kill Khalid,

00:11:25.899 --> 00:11:29.929
you will incur immediate sin and be disgraced."

00:11:29.929 --> 00:11:32.929
Indeed, they are mere idols that avail nothing.

00:11:32.929 --> 00:11:34.929
Allah Almighty says:

00:11:34.929 --> 00:11:38.929
“He said: Do they hear you when ye cry?” (26:72)

00:11:38.929 --> 00:11:43.929
“Or do they benefit or harm you?” (26:73)

00:11:43.929 --> 00:11:51.120
Thus Allah, Blessed and Exalted, opened Mecca for His Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

00:11:51.120 --> 00:11:56.250
and he returned to it after his people had driven him out from it.

00:11:56.250 --> 00:11:59.250
The Conquest of Mecca was a total victory in every respect:

00:11:59.250 --> 00:12:01.250
it was a military victory,

00:12:01.250 --> 00:12:03.250
a social victory,

00:12:03.250 --> 00:12:05.250
a religious victory,

00:12:05.250 --> 00:12:07.250
and a victory in countless other ways.

00:12:07.250 --> 00:12:10.250
Allah, Blessed and Exalted, says:

00:12:10.250 --> 00:12:14.250
“When Allah's succour and the triumph cometh” (110:1)

00:12:14.250 --> 00:12:21.250
"And you see the people entering the religion of Allah in crowds,

00:12:21.250 --> 00:12:23.250
then glorify the praise of your Lord

00:12:23.250 --> 00:12:25.250
and seek His forgiveness;

00:12:25.250 --> 00:12:29.250
indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance."

00:12:29.250 --> 00:12:35.470
After that, the Arabs entered the religion of Allah, Blessed and Exalted, in droves,

00:12:35.470 --> 00:12:40.470
because Quraysh were regarded by the Arabs as the guardians and champions of the religion,

00:12:40.470 --> 00:12:44.470
and the rest of the Arabs followed Quraysh's lead.

00:12:44.470 --> 00:12:48.470
This confirms the statement of the Prophet, peace be upon him:

00:12:48.470 --> 00:12:52.470
"People follow Quraysh in both good and evil."

00:12:53.470 --> 00:13:00.470
For this reason, it became an established and firmly rooted principle from the Prophet, peace be upon him,

00:13:00.470 --> 00:13:04.470
that the leadership (imamate) belongs to Quraysh because they are the leaders.

00:13:04.470 --> 00:13:07.470
The Prophet, peace be upon him, says:

00:13:07.470 --> 00:13:10.470
"The leaders are from Quraysh."

00:13:10.470 --> 00:13:16.129
Treasures of the Prophetic Biography:

00:13:16.129 --> 00:13:21.129
The Battle of Hunayn in the eighth year of the Hijrah.

00:13:21.129 --> 00:13:25.240
In the eighth year,

00:13:25.240 --> 00:13:31.240
the Battle of Hunayn took place, also called Autas or Hawazin,

00:13:31.240 --> 00:13:37.240
because the majority of those who fought the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, were from Hawazin.

00:13:37.240 --> 00:13:42.240
This battle occurred after the Prophet, peace be upon him, heard

00:13:42.240 --> 00:13:45.240
that the clans of Hawazin and Thaqif,

00:13:45.240 --> 00:13:48.240
along with Nasr, Jusham,

00:13:48.240 --> 00:13:51.240
Sa'd ibn Bakr, and people from Bani Hilal, had gathered together.

00:13:51.240 --> 00:13:57.240
They had all rallied under a man named Malik ibn 'Awf al-Nasri,

00:13:57.240 --> 00:14:03.240
and these tribes decided to fight the Prophet, peace be upon him.

00:14:03.240 --> 00:14:07.460
The Prophet, peace be upon him, heard of their march,

00:14:07.460 --> 00:14:09.460
having previously sent a scout who reported,

00:14:09.460 --> 00:14:13.460
"I departed from before you

00:14:13.460 --> 00:14:16.460
until I ascended such and such a mountain,

00:14:16.460 --> 00:14:20.460
and there I saw Hawazin in their entirety—

00:14:20.460 --> 00:14:23.460
with their women on litters, their livestock, and their sheep—

00:14:23.460 --> 00:14:25.460
assembled at Hunayn."

00:14:25.460 --> 00:14:29.460
The Prophet, peace be upon him, smiled and said,

00:14:29.460 --> 00:14:34.590
"That will be the spoils of the Muslims tomorrow, if Allah wills."

00:14:34.590 --> 00:14:39.590
Malik ibn 'Awf al-Nasri had ordered the people to bring along their wealth,

00:14:39.590 --> 00:14:43.590
and to take their children and women with them,

00:14:43.590 --> 00:14:46.590
so that every man, while fighting, would feel

00:14:46.590 --> 00:14:49.590
that his wealth and family were right behind him,

00:14:49.590 --> 00:14:51.590
ensuring he would not flee from them.

00:14:51.590 --> 00:14:53.590
When he encamped at Autas,

00:14:53.590 --> 00:14:55.590
the people gathered around him,

00:14:55.590 --> 00:14:59.590
and among them was a man famed for his military acumen in his time,

00:14:59.590 --> 00:15:03.590
though he had grown old and possessed only his counsel to offer,

00:15:03.590 --> 00:15:06.590
named Durayd ibn al-Simmah,

00:15:06.590 --> 00:15:09.590
who was brave and battle-tested.

00:15:09.590 --> 00:15:11.590
Durayd asked the people,

00:15:11.590 --> 00:15:13.590
"Which valley are you in?"

00:15:13.590 --> 00:15:15.590
They replied, "Autas."

00:15:16.590 --> 00:15:19.590
He said, "Yes, a good battleground for horses;

00:15:19.590 --> 00:15:21.590
neither rough and stony,

00:15:21.590 --> 00:15:23.590
nor soft and sandy."

00:15:23.590 --> 00:15:25.590
Meaning, it was neither too rugged,

00:15:25.590 --> 00:15:29.590
nor too soft for horses to gallop on.

00:15:29.590 --> 00:15:31.720
Then he asked,

00:15:31.720 --> 00:15:35.720
"Why do I hear the braying of camels, the braying of donkeys,

00:15:35.720 --> 00:15:38.720
the crying of children, and the bleating of sheep?"

00:15:38.720 --> 00:15:40.750
They replied,

00:15:40.750 --> 00:15:45.750
"Malik ibn 'Awf brought the people's women, wealth, and children along with them."

00:15:45.750 --> 00:15:48.879
So he summoned Malik and asked him,

00:15:48.879 --> 00:15:50.879
"Why did you do that?"

00:15:50.879 --> 00:15:52.879
Malik replied,

00:15:52.879 --> 00:15:57.879
"I wanted to place behind every man his family and wealth so he would fight to protect them."

00:15:57.879 --> 00:15:59.879
Durayd said to him,

00:15:59.879 --> 00:16:01.879
"By Allah, if victory is yours,

00:16:01.879 --> 00:16:05.879
nothing will benefit you except a man with his sword and spear;

00:16:05.879 --> 00:16:07.879
and if defeat is against you,

00:16:07.879 --> 00:16:09.879
you will be disgraced through your family and wealth."

00:16:09.879 --> 00:16:11.879
Malik replied to him,

00:16:11.879 --> 00:16:13.879
"By Allah, I will not change my mind!

00:16:13.879 --> 00:16:16.879
You have grown old, and your mind has grown old with you.

00:16:16.879 --> 00:16:19.879
By Allah, either Hawazin obeys me,

00:16:19.879 --> 00:16:24.879
or I will lean upon this sword until it comes out through my back!"

00:16:24.879 --> 00:16:29.909
For Malik hated that Durayd should have any say in this war.

00:16:29.909 --> 00:16:31.909
So they said to Malik,

00:16:31.909 --> 00:16:33.980
"We obey you."

00:16:33.980 --> 00:16:34.980
Durayd then remarked,

00:16:34.980 --> 00:16:38.980
"This is a battle I neither wished to witness nor care to miss."

00:16:38.980 --> 00:16:40.980
Then he recited:

00:16:40.980 --> 00:16:42.980
"Would that I were a sturdy youth today,

00:16:42.980 --> 00:16:44.980
charging swiftly and trotting in the fray,

00:16:44.980 --> 00:16:47.980
leading long-maned steeds covered in blood,

00:16:47.980 --> 00:16:49.980
as if they were nimble mountain rams!"

00:16:49.980 --> 00:16:54.980
Meaning, he wished he were a strong, youthful warrior

00:16:54.980 --> 00:16:58.980
so he could fight the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

00:16:58.980 --> 00:17:03.070
News reached the Prophet, peace be upon him,

00:17:03.070 --> 00:17:06.069
and he heard of their march to fight him.

00:17:06.069 --> 00:17:11.069
So the Prophet, peace be upon him, dispatched Abu Hadrad al-Aslami

00:17:11.069 --> 00:17:14.069
and commanded him to mingle with the people

00:17:14.069 --> 00:17:18.069
and stay among them until he learned their plans.

00:17:18.069 --> 00:17:21.069
So the man went out and brought back the news.

00:17:21.069 --> 00:17:25.069
It had been mentioned to the Prophet, peace be upon him,

00:17:25.069 --> 00:17:29.069
that Safwan ibn Umayyah possessed coats of armor and weapons.

00:17:29.069 --> 00:17:31.069
So he sent for him,

00:17:31.069 --> 00:17:34.069
and when he came, he said to him,

00:17:34.069 --> 00:17:36.069
"O Abu Umayyah,

00:17:36.069 --> 00:17:38.069
lend us these weapons of yours

00:17:38.069 --> 00:17:40.069
so that we may meet our enemy with them tomorrow."

00:17:40.069 --> 00:17:42.099
Safwan asked,

00:17:42.099 --> 00:17:44.099
"Are you taking them by force, O Muhammad?"

00:17:44.099 --> 00:17:46.099
He replied, "No,

00:17:46.099 --> 00:17:48.099
rather as a guaranteed loan

00:17:48.099 --> 00:17:50.099
until we return them to you."

00:17:50.099 --> 00:17:52.099
So he gave them to him.

00:17:52.099 --> 00:17:56.200
This occurred before Safwan embraced Islam,

00:17:56.200 --> 00:18:00.200
and this request by the Prophet, peace be upon him,

00:18:00.200 --> 00:18:03.200
serves as an instance of seeking assistance from non-Muslims in war.
