In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
A summary of the Prophetic biography.
The departure of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, to Ta'if.
When the affliction upon the Messenger of Allah and his Companions intensified following the death of Abu Talib,
The Messenger of Allah set out for Ta'if,
Hoping that they would shelter him, support him against his people, and protect him from them.
The Messenger of Allah headed toward Ta'if,
Either because it was the second center of power and influence in the Hijaz after Makkah,
Or because his maternal relatives through Halimah al-Sa'diyah were from the tribe of Thaqif.
The Messenger of Allah decided to set out for Ta'if on foot.
Accompanied by his freedman, Zayd ibn Harithah, may Allah be pleased with him,
He sought support and protection from Thaqif against his own people.
The arrival of the Messenger of Allah in Ta'if.
When the Messenger of Allah reached Ta'if,
He went to three brothers,
Who were at that time the leaders and notables of Thaqif.
They were 'Abd Ya Layl, Mas'ud, and Habib,
The sons of 'Amr ibn 'Umayr.
The Messenger of Allah sat with them,
And invited them to Allah and to support Islam.
One of them said,
"He would tear the coverings of the Ka'bah if Allah had truly sent you."
Another said,
"Could Allah not find anyone to send other than you?"
The third said,
"By Allah, I will never speak to you.
If you are a Messenger from Allah as you claim,
You are too significant for me to speak back to you.
And if you are lying about Allah,
It is not fitting for me to speak to you."
The Messenger of Allah rose from their presence,
Having despaired of receiving support from Thaqif.
He said to them,
"Since you have acted as you have,
Then keep my visit a secret."
But they did not do so.
The Messenger of Allah stayed among them for ten days,
During which they incited their foolish ones and their slaves against him,
Who would insult him and shout at him.
They harmed him with the most severe of harms,
And inflicted upon him and his companion what his own people had not.
They told him, "Leave our land."
Their foolish ones stood in two rows,
And began pelting him with stones,
Until the feet of the Messenger of Allah bled.
Zayd ibn Harithah, may Allah be pleased with him, shielded him with his own body,
Until he sustained head wounds.
The Messenger of Allah departed,
From Ta'if back to Makkah, heavy-hearted.
During that return journey,
He called upon his Lord with the well-known supplication:
"O Allah, to You I complain of the weakness of my strength and the scarcity of my resources,
And my insignificance in the eyes of the people.
O Most Merciful of the merciful,
You are the Lord of the oppressed,
And You are my Lord.
To whom will You entrust me?
To a distant person who treats me harshly,
Or to an enemy to whom You have given control over my affairs?
If You are not angry with me, then I do not care,
But Your protection is more encompassing for me.
I seek refuge in the light of Your Face, by which the darkness is illuminated,
And by which the affairs of this world and the Hereafter are set right,
From Your anger descending upon me,
Or Your wrath befalling me.
To You I submit until You are pleased,
And there is no power and no strength except through You."
If the longing of the worlds for one another is long,
Then the longing toward You has no limit.
May Allah send blessings upon you as long as the call to prayer is raised,
And lips move with the remainder of the truth.
