Among the beauties of the Prophetic biography (Seerah)
The leader’s initiative
Leadership is neither a luxurious chair nor fine attire
Nor is it a prestigious position
Rather, it is sincere action, high ambition
And earnest initiative
This is what the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, intended in his leadership journey
He bequeathed to us the finest and greatest of qualities
It is recorded in the two Sahih collections on the authority of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
The Prophet, peace be upon him, was the most handsome and the bravest of people
The people of Madinah were once startled one night
They went out toward the sound
The Prophet, peace be upon him, met them coming back
He had already investigated the news
He was riding a horse belonging to Abu Talhah that had no saddle, with his sword around his neck
He was saying:
"Do not be alarmed, do not be alarmed."
Then he said, "We found it to be a sea,"
Or he said, "It is indeed a sea,"
Referring to the horse, which had been slow
He was the first and fastest of them to reach the source of the sound
He reassured the people and identified the source
This is sufficient for learning true leadership
The required decisiveness, and swift initiative
Such are the morals of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him
Add to this
His ultimate courage and his unique self-reliance
And his lack of dependence on others
For the situation required urgent speed
An early departure, and personal initiative
Which is exactly what he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, did
He was able to identify the danger
And minimize its impact
In this is the recommendation to reassure people
And to give them glad tidings of the removal of fear
And all its causes and precursors
And peace
