Allah the Exalted has said:
"Thus does Allah make clear to you the verses, that you might contemplate this world and the Hereafter."
Regarding the meaning of this verse, Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
It means contemplating the transience and perishability of this world.
And the approach and permanence of the Hereafter.
Al-Hasan said:
By Allah, it is for those who contemplate it.
So that one may know that this world is a place of trial, and then a place of passing.
And so that one may know that the Hereafter is a place of recompense, and then a place of eternity.
