A summary of the core principles of the Ahl al-Sunnah:
The nature of inability that legitimately excuses a person.
Whoever is incapable of performing an obligation, or something similar,
this obligation is lifted from him,
as established by the textual proofs.
Concerning jihad, Allah Almighty said:
"There is no blame upon the blind,"
"nor is there blame upon the lame,"
"nor is there blame upon the sick."
And concerning commands in general, Allah Almighty said:
“So keep your duty to Allah as best ye can, and listen, and obey, and spend; that is better for your souls. And whoso is saved from his own greed, such are the successful.” (64:16)
And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
"When I command you to do something,"
"do as much of it as you can."
However, a person is not excused
unless he exerts his utmost effort
to carry out what he has been commanded to do,
but remains unable, finding all means
completely blocked to its fulfillment.
This is understood from the words of Allah, Mighty and Majestic,
regarding those who were genuinely unable to emigrate from the lands of shirk.
“Except the feeble among men, and the women, and the children, who are unable to devise a plan and are not shown a way.” (4:98)
