Here is a challenge for you: who am I?
I am one of the young Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
I embraced Islam while I was still a youth.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, turned me away on the day of Badr.
Then, he permitted me to participate in Uhud.
On that day, Samurah ibn Jundub, may Allah be pleased with him, asked to wrestle me.
He did so in order for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, to permit him to fight.
We wrestled, and I threw him to the ground.
So, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, permitted him to fight.
We both witnessed that battle together.
I also witnessed every subsequent battle alongside him, peace be upon him.
I was a desert dweller, knowledgeable in agriculture and irrigation.
I was struck by an arrow on the day of Uhud.
I came to the Prophet, peace be upon him.
I said, "O Messenger of Allah, remove the arrow."
He replied, "If you wish, I will remove the arrow and the arrowhead."
Meaning the tip of the arrow.
"And if you wish, I will remove the arrow and leave the arrowhead."
"And I will bear witness for you on the Day of Resurrection that you are a martyr."
I said, "Rather, remove the arrow and leave the arrowhead, O Messenger of Allah."
So the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, removed the arrow and left the arrowhead.
I lived with it until the days of Mu'awiyah, may Allah be pleased with him.
That wound reopened.
And it was the cause of my death.
