00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:04.500
Our Mother ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her.

00:00:04.500 --> 00:00:10.539
‘A’ishah.

00:00:10.539 --> 00:00:16.140
They will be with them, then they will be resurrected according to their intentions.

00:00:16.140 --> 00:00:22.239
Among the established ways of Allah on earth.

00:00:22.239 --> 00:00:25.239
The destruction of the righteous due to the wickedness of the evil-doers.

00:00:25.239 --> 00:00:27.370
When wickedness becomes widespread.

00:00:27.370 --> 00:00:28.870
The explanation of this is:

00:00:28.870 --> 00:00:32.369
That people are divided into three categories.

00:00:32.369 --> 00:00:35.369
The reformers and the righteous.

00:00:35.369 --> 00:00:37.159
And the people of evil.

00:00:37.159 --> 00:00:38.659
As for the reformers:

00:00:38.659 --> 00:00:41.659
They are those who are keen on the righteousness of the people.

00:00:41.659 --> 00:00:43.659
And saving them from the Fire.

00:00:43.659 --> 00:00:45.659
By offering them sincere advice.

00:00:45.659 --> 00:00:47.659
And by fulfilling the duty of enjoining the good.

00:00:47.659 --> 00:00:49.659
And forbidding the evil.

00:00:49.659 --> 00:00:52.159
And they endure in that every harm.

00:00:52.159 --> 00:00:54.159
That comes to them from the people.

00:00:54.159 --> 00:00:55.659
As for the righteous:

00:00:55.659 --> 00:00:58.659
They are people who do not commit evil.

00:00:58.659 --> 00:01:02.659
But they do not forbid the people of evil from their actions.

00:01:02.659 --> 00:01:05.159
Rather, they may even criticize the reformers.

00:01:05.159 --> 00:01:07.159
Who enjoin the good.

00:01:07.159 --> 00:01:09.260
And forbid the evil.

00:01:09.260 --> 00:01:11.760
Allah, the Glorified and Exalted, has mentioned.

00:01:11.760 --> 00:01:14.760
These categories in the story of the people of the Sabbath.

00:01:14.760 --> 00:01:16.760
He said:

00:01:16.760 --> 00:01:18.760
"And ask them about the town..."

00:01:18.760 --> 00:01:21.760
“Ask them (O Muhammad) of the township that was by the sea, how they did break the Sabbath, how their big fish came unto them visibly upon their Sabbath day and on a day when they did not keep Sabbath came they not unto them. Thus did We try them for that they were evil-livers.” (7:163)

00:01:21.760 --> 00:01:26.260

00:01:26.260 --> 00:01:28.760
"...when their fish came to them..."

00:01:28.760 --> 00:01:31.760
"...on the day of their Sabbath, appearing openly..."

00:01:31.760 --> 00:01:33.760
"...and on the day they did not observe the Sabbath..."

00:01:33.760 --> 00:01:35.760
"...they did not come to them."

00:01:35.760 --> 00:01:37.760
"Thus did We test them..."

00:01:37.760 --> 00:01:40.760
"...because they were defiantly disobedient."

00:01:40.760 --> 00:01:43.760
“And when a community among them said: Why preach ye to a folk whom Allah is about to destroy or punish with an awful doom, they said: In order to be free from guilt before your Lord, and that haply they may ward off (evil).” (7:164)

00:01:43.760 --> 00:01:46.760
"Why do you advise a people whom..."

00:01:46.760 --> 00:01:49.760
"...Allah is about to destroy or punish..."

00:01:49.760 --> 00:01:52.760
"...with a severe punishment?"

00:01:52.760 --> 00:01:56.760
“And when a community among them said: Why preach ye to a folk whom Allah is about to destroy or punish with an awful doom, they said: In order to be free from guilt before your Lord, and that haply they may ward off (evil).” (7:164)

00:01:56.760 --> 00:01:59.760
"...perhaps they may become righteous."

00:01:59.760 --> 00:02:02.760
"And when they forgot that by which they had been reminded..."

00:02:02.760 --> 00:02:05.760
"...We saved those who..."

00:02:05.760 --> 00:02:08.759
"...forbade evil..."

00:02:08.759 --> 00:02:11.759
"...and seized those who wronged..."

00:02:11.759 --> 00:02:14.259
"...and seized those who wronged..."

00:02:14.259 --> 00:02:16.759
"...with a wretched punishment..."

00:02:16.759 --> 00:02:19.759
"...because they were defiantly disobedient."

00:02:19.759 --> 00:02:22.039
So people in this story.

00:02:22.039 --> 00:02:24.039
Are three categories.

00:02:24.039 --> 00:02:26.039
Those who transgressed the Sabbath.

00:02:26.039 --> 00:02:28.039
And those who forbade them from it.

00:02:28.039 --> 00:02:30.039
And those who did not commit the evil.

00:02:30.039 --> 00:02:33.240
And did not forbid those who committed it.

00:02:33.240 --> 00:02:36.240
And when Allah sent the punishment upon them.

00:02:36.240 --> 00:02:38.240
He mentioned those whom He saved.

00:02:38.240 --> 00:02:40.240
And they are those who forbade the evil.

00:02:40.240 --> 00:02:42.240
And He mentioned those whom He destroyed.

00:02:42.240 --> 00:02:45.240
And they are those who committed the evil.

00:02:45.240 --> 00:02:47.240
And He remained silent about the third group.

00:02:47.240 --> 00:02:49.240
And did not mention their fate.

00:02:49.240 --> 00:02:52.270
Ibn Kathir, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

00:02:52.270 --> 00:02:55.270
Allah informs us about the people of this town.

00:02:55.270 --> 00:02:58.270
That they became three factions.

00:02:58.270 --> 00:03:00.270
A faction that committed the forbidden act.

00:03:00.270 --> 00:03:03.270
And used a ruse to fish on the Sabbath.

00:03:03.270 --> 00:03:06.270
As previously explained in Surah al-Baqarah.

00:03:06.270 --> 00:03:10.270
And a faction that forbade that and distanced themselves from them.

00:03:10.270 --> 00:03:12.270
And a faction that remained silent.

00:03:12.270 --> 00:03:14.270
They neither did the act nor forbade it.

00:03:14.270 --> 00:03:17.270
But they said to those who were forbidding:

00:03:17.270 --> 00:03:20.270
“And when a community among them said: Why preach ye to a folk whom Allah is about to destroy or punish with an awful doom, they said: In order to be free from guilt before your Lord, and that haply they may ward off (evil).” (7:164)

00:03:20.270 --> 00:03:23.270
“And when a community among them said: Why preach ye to a folk whom Allah is about to destroy or punish with an awful doom, they said: In order to be free from guilt before your Lord, and that haply they may ward off (evil).” (7:164)

00:03:23.270 --> 00:03:25.270
Meaning: "Why do you forbid these people?"

00:03:25.270 --> 00:03:27.270
"When you know that they have perished."

00:03:27.270 --> 00:03:29.270
"And have deserved punishment from Allah."

00:03:29.270 --> 00:03:32.270
"So there is no benefit in your forbidding them."

00:03:32.270 --> 00:03:34.270
Allah the Almighty said:

00:03:34.270 --> 00:03:37.270
"And when they forgot that by which they had been reminded..."

00:03:37.270 --> 00:03:40.270
Meaning: When they despaired of them accepting the advice.

00:03:40.270 --> 00:03:43.270
“And when they forgot that whereof they had been reminded, We rescued those who forbade wrong, and visited those who did wrong with dreadful punishment because they were evil-livers.” (7:165)

00:03:43.270 --> 00:03:45.270
"...and We seized those who wronged..."

00:03:45.270 --> 00:03:47.270
Meaning: Those who committed the sin.

00:03:47.270 --> 00:03:49.270
"...with a wretched punishment."

00:03:49.270 --> 00:03:51.270
So He specified the salvation of those who forbade.

00:03:51.270 --> 00:03:53.270
And the destruction of the wrongdoers.

00:03:53.270 --> 00:03:55.270
And remained silent about those who were silent.

00:03:55.270 --> 00:03:58.270
Because the recompense is of the same nature as the deed.

00:03:58.270 --> 00:04:01.270
They do not deserve praise to be praised.

00:04:01.270 --> 00:04:04.270
Nor did they commit a great sin to be condemned.

00:04:04.270 --> 00:04:07.270
Yet, the Imams have differed regarding them.

00:04:07.270 --> 00:04:10.270
Whether they were among the destroyed or the saved.

00:04:10.270 --> 00:04:12.270
There are two opinions.

00:04:12.270 --> 00:04:14.400
So what is their fate?

00:04:14.400 --> 00:04:18.399
Here comes the question of our Mother ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her.

00:04:18.399 --> 00:04:20.399
About this third group.

00:04:20.399 --> 00:04:22.399
And they are the righteous.

00:04:22.399 --> 00:04:25.399
When punishment descends upon a town.

00:04:25.399 --> 00:04:28.399
Or one of the societies.

00:04:28.399 --> 00:04:31.399
‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, says:

00:04:31.399 --> 00:04:33.399
"O Messenger of Allah,"

00:04:33.399 --> 00:04:36.399
"If Allah sends His wrath upon the people of the earth,"

00:04:36.399 --> 00:04:38.399
"And among them are the righteous,"

00:04:38.399 --> 00:04:40.399
"Will they be destroyed by their destruction?"

00:04:40.399 --> 00:04:42.399
He said:

00:04:42.399 --> 00:04:43.399
"O ‘A’ishah,"

00:04:43.399 --> 00:04:47.399
"If Allah sends His wrath upon the people of His vengeance,"

00:04:47.399 --> 00:04:49.399
"And among them are the righteous,"

00:04:49.399 --> 00:04:51.399
"They will be afflicted along with them,"

00:04:51.399 --> 00:04:54.399
"Then they will be resurrected according to their intentions and deeds."

00:04:54.399 --> 00:04:56.399
Narrated by Ibn Hibban.

00:04:56.399 --> 00:04:59.649
Allah has promised the salvation of those who forbid.

00:04:59.649 --> 00:05:02.649
Evil from the general punishment.

00:05:02.649 --> 00:05:04.649
Which descends upon a society.

00:05:04.649 --> 00:05:08.649
Because its people persist in committing evil.

00:05:08.649 --> 00:05:12.649
Rather, Allah promised towns salvation from general punishment.

00:05:12.649 --> 00:05:15.649
If their individuals undertook reform within them.

00:05:15.649 --> 00:05:17.649
For He, the Glorified, said:

00:05:17.649 --> 00:05:20.720
“If only there had been among the generations before you men possessing a remnant (of good sense) to warn (their people) from corruption in the earth, as did a few of those whom We saved from them! The wrong-doers followed that by which they were made sapless, and were guilty.” (11:116)

00:05:20.720 --> 00:05:24.720
“If only there had been among the generations before you men possessing a remnant (of good sense) to warn (their people) from corruption in the earth, as did a few of those whom We saved from them! The wrong-doers followed that by which they were made sapless, and were guilty.” (11:116)

00:05:24.720 --> 00:05:27.720
"If only there had been among the generations before you those of remnant forbidding..."

00:05:27.720 --> 00:05:30.720
“If only there had been among the generations before you men possessing a remnant (of good sense) to warn (their people) from corruption in the earth, as did a few of those whom We saved from them! The wrong-doers followed that by which they were made sapless, and were guilty.” (11:116)

00:05:30.720 --> 00:05:34.720
"...except a few of those..."

00:05:34.720 --> 00:05:37.720
"...whom We saved from among them."

00:05:37.720 --> 00:05:40.720
"But those who wronged pursued..."

00:05:40.720 --> 00:05:43.720
"...what they were given of luxury..."

00:05:43.720 --> 00:05:46.720
"...and they were criminals."

00:05:46.720 --> 00:05:48.720
"And your Lord would not..."

00:05:48.720 --> 00:05:51.720
"...destroy the towns with injustice..."

00:05:51.720 --> 00:05:54.720
"...while their people were reformers."

00:05:54.720 --> 00:05:58.000
So if the society stops performing.

00:05:58.000 --> 00:06:01.000
The role of reform and wickedness becomes widespread.

00:06:01.000 --> 00:06:04.000
The general punishment descends.

00:06:04.000 --> 00:06:07.000
Even if there are righteous people in this society.

00:06:07.000 --> 00:06:11.000
And silence regarding evil is a forbidden matter in Islam.

00:06:11.000 --> 00:06:14.000
It is not permissible for the entire society to remain silent.

00:06:14.000 --> 00:06:17.000
About forbidding the evils made public within it.

00:06:17.000 --> 00:06:20.000
On the authority of Umm Salamah, may Allah be pleased with her.

00:06:20.000 --> 00:06:24.000
From the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that he said:

00:06:24.000 --> 00:06:27.000
"There will be rulers appointed over you,"

00:06:27.000 --> 00:06:30.000
"You will recognize [some of their deeds] and disapprove [of others]."

00:06:30.000 --> 00:06:33.000
"Whoever dislikes it is innocent,"

00:06:33.000 --> 00:06:36.000
"And whoever disapproves of it is safe."

00:06:36.000 --> 00:06:39.000
"But whoever is pleased and follows [them]..."

00:06:39.000 --> 00:06:42.000
They said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall we not fight them?"

00:06:42.000 --> 00:06:45.000
He said: "No, as long as they pray."

00:06:45.000 --> 00:06:48.160
Qadi ‘Iyad, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

00:06:48.160 --> 00:06:51.160
His saying: "Whoever dislikes it is innocent,"

00:06:51.160 --> 00:06:54.160
"And whoever disapproves of it is safe."

00:06:54.160 --> 00:06:57.160
Meaning: From Allah’s punishment for him.

00:06:57.160 --> 00:07:00.160
For approving of the evil.

00:07:00.160 --> 00:07:03.160
And he is innocent by his dislike from being pleased and following.

00:07:03.160 --> 00:07:06.160
And in it is an argument for the necessity of speaking the truth.

00:07:06.160 --> 00:07:09.160
And forbidding the evil.

00:07:09.160 --> 00:07:12.160
And his saying: "But whoever is pleased and follows,"

00:07:12.160 --> 00:07:15.160
Indicates that the punishment for silence regarding evil.

00:07:15.160 --> 00:07:18.160
Is only for those who are pleased with it.

00:07:18.160 --> 00:07:21.160
And assisted in it by word, deed, or following.

00:07:21.160 --> 00:07:24.160
Or was able to change it but left it.

00:07:24.160 --> 00:07:27.160
As for when there is no ability.

00:07:27.160 --> 00:07:30.199
Then it is by the heart and not being pleased with it.

00:07:30.199 --> 00:07:33.199
And Ibn al-Nahhas, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

00:07:33.199 --> 00:07:36.199
Regarding the verse of Allah:

00:07:36.199 --> 00:07:39.199
“Spend your wealth for the cause of Allah, and be not cast by your own hands to ruin; and do good. Lo! Allah loveth the beneficent.” (2:195)

00:07:40.199 --> 00:07:43.199
This verse is on the tongues of many.

00:07:43.199 --> 00:07:46.199
Of people in such a situation.

00:07:46.199 --> 00:07:49.199
Because of the ignorance that has overcome them regarding the obligation of enjoining.

00:07:49.199 --> 00:07:52.199
The good and forbidding the evil.

00:07:52.199 --> 00:07:55.199
And because of what has taken hold of their hearts of leaning.

00:07:55.199 --> 00:07:58.199
Toward flattering the creation and preferring their love.

00:07:58.199 --> 00:08:01.199
And maintaining their companionship.

00:08:01.199 --> 00:08:04.199
And the heaviness of the word of truth on their tongues.

00:08:04.199 --> 00:08:07.199
And what the devil casts into their hearts.

00:08:07.199 --> 00:08:10.199
And considering the distant danger as near.

00:08:10.199 --> 00:08:13.199
And believing that silence regarding evil is mandatory.

00:08:13.199 --> 00:08:16.199
And they did not know that destruction.

00:08:16.199 --> 00:08:19.199
Is leaving the enjoining of good and forbidding of evil.

00:08:19.199 --> 00:08:22.199
And that salvation is the enjoining and forbidding.

00:08:22.199 --> 00:08:25.199
Since he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

00:08:25.199 --> 00:08:28.199
"There is no man who is among a people,"

00:08:28.199 --> 00:08:31.199
"Who commit sins among them,"

00:08:31.199 --> 00:08:34.200
"While they are able to change it for him but do not change it,"

00:08:34.200 --> 00:08:37.200
"Except that Allah will afflict them with it,"

00:08:37.200 --> 00:08:40.289
"With a punishment before they die."

00:08:40.289 --> 00:08:43.289
And it preceded in the hadith of al-Nu‘man ibn Bashir:

00:08:43.289 --> 00:08:46.289
"If they leave them and what they want, they will all perish."

00:08:46.289 --> 00:08:49.289
"And if they take them by the hands,"

00:08:49.289 --> 00:08:52.360
"They will all be saved."

00:08:52.360 --> 00:08:55.360
So destruction in reality is silence and flattery.

00:08:55.360 --> 00:08:58.360
And salvation in this world and the Hereafter.

00:08:58.360 --> 00:09:01.769
Is enjoining the good and forbidding the evil.

00:09:01.769 --> 00:09:04.769
And Allah, the Glorified and Exalted, said about the Jews.

00:09:04.769 --> 00:09:07.769
Who left forbidding the evil despite their knowledge of it:

00:09:07.769 --> 00:09:10.769
"Cursed were those who disbelieved..."

00:09:10.769 --> 00:09:13.769
"...among the Children of Israel..."

00:09:13.769 --> 00:09:16.769
"...by the tongue of David..."

00:09:16.769 --> 00:09:19.769
"...and ‘Isa, son of Maryam."

00:09:19.769 --> 00:09:22.769
"That is because they disobeyed and were transgressing."

00:09:22.769 --> 00:09:25.769
"They used not to prevent one another..."

00:09:25.769 --> 00:09:29.250
"...from wrongdoing that they did."

00:09:29.250 --> 00:09:32.250
“They restrained not one another from the wickedness they did. Verily evil was that they used to do!” (5:79)

00:09:32.250 --> 00:09:35.250
"You see many of them..."

00:09:35.250 --> 00:09:38.250
"...becoming allies of those who disbelieved."

00:09:38.250 --> 00:09:41.250
“Thou seest many of them making friends with those who disbelieve. Surely ill for them is that which they themselves send on before them: that Allah will be wroth with them and in the doom they will abide.” (5:80)

00:09:41.250 --> 00:09:44.250
"...themselves that the wrath of..."

00:09:44.250 --> 00:09:47.250
"...Allah is upon them."

00:09:47.250 --> 00:09:50.250
"And in the punishment..."

00:09:50.250 --> 00:09:53.250
"...they will abide eternally."

00:09:53.250 --> 00:09:56.250
“If they believed in Allah and the Prophet and that which is revealed unto him, they would not choose them for their friends. But many of them are of evil conduct.” (5:81)

00:09:56.250 --> 00:09:59.250
And the Prophet.

00:09:59.250 --> 00:10:02.250
And what was revealed to him.

00:10:02.250 --> 00:10:05.250
They did not take them as allies.

00:10:05.250 --> 00:10:08.250
The first of these [reasons].

00:10:08.250 --> 00:10:11.250
Yet many of them.

00:10:11.250 --> 00:10:14.509
Are defiantly disobedient.

00:10:14.509 --> 00:10:17.509
Al-Tahir Ibn 'Ashur, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

00:10:17.509 --> 00:10:20.509
He applied the term for an action to the act of refraining from forbidding [evil].

00:10:20.509 --> 00:10:23.509
In His saying: "Wretched is that which they used to do."

00:10:24.509 --> 00:10:27.509
Because remaining silent about an evil deed.

00:10:27.509 --> 00:10:30.509
Is not devoid of showing approval for it and participating in it.

00:10:30.509 --> 00:10:33.639
And Abu Zahrah, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

00:10:33.639 --> 00:10:36.639
In this text.

00:10:36.639 --> 00:10:39.639
There is an indication that the cause of the corruption of nations in general.

00:10:39.639 --> 00:10:42.639
Is the silence regarding the evil deeds within them.

00:10:42.639 --> 00:10:45.639
For an evil deed is that which is inherently repulsive.

00:10:45.639 --> 00:10:48.759
And which the Lawgiver has forbidden.

00:10:48.759 --> 00:10:51.759
So, my Muslim sister, it is a repulsive thing.

00:10:51.759 --> 00:10:54.759
To refrain from forbidding evil.

00:10:54.759 --> 00:10:57.759
Under the pretext that "everyone has their own religion."

00:10:57.759 --> 00:11:00.759
Or under the pretext that "every person is responsible for themselves."

00:11:00.759 --> 00:11:03.759
For this is one of the deceptions of Iblis upon the people.

00:11:03.759 --> 00:11:06.759
So do not abandon the forbidding of evil.

00:11:06.759 --> 00:11:09.759
Lest you become a cause for the destruction of society.

00:11:09.759 --> 00:11:13.120
And then perish along with it.

00:11:13.120 --> 00:11:16.120
We shall continue in a future session, if Allah wills.

00:11:16.120 --> 00:11:21.639
And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

00:11:21.639 --> 00:11:24.639
With 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her.
