A hadith and commentary.
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
"No one shall enter Paradise who has in his heart a weight of an atom's worth of pride."
Narrated by Muslim.
Commentary:
Once we know that pride is a grave sin and a reprehensible character trait,
it becomes incumbent upon us to avoid it,
and to perform righteous deeds that distance us from it,
such as accepting advice,
submitting to the truth,
and showing love for the poor, the weak,
the needy, servants, and those like them,
treating them with kindness, caring for them, and being humble toward them.
For indeed, that is among the things that purify the heart,
and cleanse the soul of vanity, arrogance, and pride.
