Contemplation precedes mindful remembrance.
Allah Almighty says:
"[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, that they may contemplate its verses and that those of understanding may take heed."
The conjunction of taking heed with contemplation indicates that they are two distinct matters,
and that contemplation is a stage that precedes mindful remembrance and leads to it.
The verse also indicates that a person attains this mindful remembrance and benefits from the Qur'an in proportion to their discernment and intellect.
