A new challenge: who am I?
I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, from the Ansar.
I am among those known for sound judgment and counsel.
I am also among those known for strength and courage.
I witnessed the Battle of Badr and all other battles alongside the Prophet, peace be upon him.
He, peace be upon him, would often seek my counsel in many situations.
To the point that I became known for my strategic opinion.
I witnessed the Battle of Badr when I was thirty-three years old.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, arrived at the battlefield.
I approached him and said:
"O Messenger of Allah, tell me, is this position one that Allah has commanded you to take,
such that we should neither advance nor retreat from it, or is it a matter of strategy, warfare, and tactics?"
He replied, "Rather, it is a matter of strategy, warfare, and tactics."
I said, "O Messenger of Allah, then this is not the right position.
Move the people forward until we reach the water source closest to the enemy,
and let us encamp there.
Then, we shall fill in the wells behind it.
Then, we shall build a cistern and fill it with water.
Then, we shall fight the enemy;
we will drink, and they will not."
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:
"You have suggested a sound strategy."
He, peace be upon him, then moved forward with those who were with him.
He marched until he reached the water source closest to the enemy,
and he encamped there.
He then ordered the wells to be filled in.
He built a cistern over the well where he had encamped,
filled it with water, and cast the vessels into it.
And at the Battle of Uhud, after the people had scattered,
I was one of the seven Ansar who stood firm around the Prophet, peace be upon him.
Along with seven others of our brothers from the Muhajirun.
We pledged to the Prophet, peace be upon him, that we would fight to the death.
We defended him and drove back the polytheists,
until Allah protected His Prophet, peace be upon him.
So, who am I?
